the Fine station at the C
tracks.
A 'local citizen became su
elms of the actions or the
cupants of a, 1952 Pontiac a
called police. When Cont
Calder came the car and 't
men drove off. Provincial pot
in surrounding territory w
notiflied, The fleeing car dro
through Egmondville and turn
east, disaPpearing in a cloud
dust.
In the meantime the citiz
found a young man hiding un
the large storage tank at t
rear. Police believe he may ha
climbed through a window in t
rear door of the service stati
leaving one man outside, and
other sitting in the car ready
drive off in an emergency, 0
was able to got over the fen
to the waiting car, but the you
arrested had been unable to g
over the high fence fast enoug
and was left behind by his co
panions.
The operator of the statio
Don Brightrail, was called abo
1 a,m, to check over the stats
for loss. As nearly as he colt
determine about a dollar had be
taken.
Local police learned later th
the car had been stolen at Stra
ford on Saturday.
They have the car number, bby Tuesday morning had n
ici)
located the vehicle,
Entry to the service station
was attempted by forcing the
rear door. When this failed glass
was carefully removed from a
small window and entry made,
The young man was taken to
the police station and questioned.
.When he refused to give informa-
tion he was taken before W. D.
Southgate, J.P., charged with
vagrancy and removed to Goder-
ich. His story was that ho had
hitch -hiked to town and had been
with no one else.
Police went over the service
station for fingerprints. The
results are being processed at
the laboratory, at Mount Forest.
Chief of Police Hutchison says
he appreciates the cooperation he
'has had from the provincial
policb at Goderich, Exeter, Seb-
ringville and Mount Forest in
assisting with this case . Road
blocks were set up and help given
in tracing the car.
Also deserving credit is the
local citizen who took the trouble
to notify police when he became
suspicious. There was much ac-
tivity around this corner as the
night shift at the Bell foundry
was going on about this time.
