John Elston Dowson Passes
Mr. John Elston Dawson pass-
ed away quietly at Scott Memor-
ial hospital, Seaforth, on Friday
afternoon atter a brief illness. He
suffered a heart attack the Fri-
day previous and later 2 strokes
in the hospital. He was born in
Stanley township ande was in his
83rd year. He farmed all his life
and was a member of the United
Church. He leaves to mourn his
passing his wife, the former Clara
Workman, one daughter, Mrs, El -
din Herr (Mildred) of near Sea -
forth; three sisters, Mrs. Wm.
(Laura) Stogdill, Toronto; Mrs.
New Democratic Party

service Monday at 2 p.m. from
Bonthron funeral biome, Hensall,
Bearers were three nephews, the
Keys brothers of Varna, two ne
phews, Emmerson and John An-
derson of Kippen, and a son-in-
law, Win Herr, Seaforth. Inter-
ment was in Bayfield cemetery.
Rev. D. A. MacMillan of Ilder-
ton and Rev. D. Cook of Lucan
called on friends in Kippen last
Wednesday.
Sympathy is extended Mrs. El-
ston Dowson in the passing of her
husband, the late Elston Dowson.
We are happy to report Mrs.
Joe Lostell is slowly improving
in health.
Mr. and Mrs. D. Patterson and
family of Clinton have moved into
Mr. Lobb's house.
Mrs. Irving Robinson was ad-
mitted Monday to Clinton hospi-
tal, having suffered an attack of
appendicitis.
Klppen Couple Observe Silver
Anniversary
Mr, and Mrs. Joseph Lostell,
RR 3, Kippen, celebrated their
25th wedding anniversary with a
turkey dinner at their biome on
Wednesday: The table was cen-
tered with a two-tiered wedding
cake, white candles and silver
holders. They were married at
Hensall on May 1st, 19«37 by Rev.
W. Young. Mr. Lostell is the son
of Mrs. Joseph Lostell and the
late Joseph Lostell Sr., of Frob-
isher, Sask. Mrs. Lostell is the
former Margaret O'Brien, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs, Charles 0' -
Brien, Exeter. They are blessed
with four of a family: Phyllia, on
staff of Toronto Dominion Bank,
Seaforth; Donelda, on staff, of
Sills Hardware, Seaforth; Susie
Mae and Lloyd at home,.•

TheMay meeting of the local
Council. of the Catholic Women's
League was held at the home of
Mrs. Vincent Lane on Tuesday
evening with 25 members pres-
ent. The president, Mrs. Albert
Cronin, presided. The secretary,
Mrs. Thomas Kale, read the min•
utes of the annual meeting-, and
the financial report was given
by Mrs. Jack Lane. The altars
are being cared for during May
by Mrs. Lewis Coyne and Mrs.
Frank Ryan. Final plans were
made for the penny sale to be
held the last week of May with
the drawing on June 5th. Mrs.
Maurice Melady and Mrs, Em-
mett Malone were appointed con-
veners. Mrs. Albert Cronin and
Mrs, Stephen Murray will be
delegates to the Diocesan conven-
tion in London on May 15 and 16.
The date for the June tea and
bingo was set for Juue 11th.
Members are asked to bring used
clothing to the parish hall by the
end of May. The annual supper
and carnival of July 18th was
discussed. The meeting' was ad-
journed, Records "The Fate of
Ten Famous Men," and "The
Devil Counts Ten" were played.
The mystery prize donated by
Mrs. Jack Lane was won by Mrs.
Richard Downey.
