Senator Golding Is
Laid To Rest
Senator William Henry Gold-
ing died Sunday in Scott Memor-.
ial hospital, Seaforth, in his 84th
year. He had been i11 for three
weeks.
Mr. Golding was Liberal mem-
ber of. Parliament for Huron-
Perth for 17 years, and a mem-
ber of the Senate since 1949. He
was first elected to the Commons
in the 1932 by. election following
the death of Thomas McMullan,

After an illness of a year, Wil-
liam .David Manson of Egmond-
ville died at St. Joseph's hospital,
London on Tuesday, Jan. 2nd,
He was 73. Boin at Brucefield,
he received Isis education in the
Stanley township school. During
the first world war Mr, Manson
served in France with the CCRC
and Canadian Engineers, He
was employed for many years
with N, Cluff and Son and later
with Seaforth Lumber, He was
a member of First Presbyterian
Church and was formerly a mem-
ber of Brucefleld I.O.O. . He was
married on Dec. 5th, 1923, at Eg-
mondville to Mary Allan Kling,
who died on June 2, 1958. Surviv-
ing are two step children, Mary,
Mrs. 0. J. Smith, Ancaster, Ont„
and Frank Kling, Seaforth.
The funeral will be held at the
Box funeral home on Thursday,
Jan. 4th, at 2 p,m, Rev. D. Ross
MacDonald will officiate and bur-
ial will. be in Maitland Bank cem-
etery. The pallbearers are Wil-
son McCartney, Roy McGeoch,
Frank Case, Gordan Papple,
Hugh Flynn, Allan Nicholson.

the Senate. Under Prime Minis-
ter Mackenzie King he was for
many years chairman of the Lib-
eral party caucus.
Mr. Golding was born in Hib-
bert township, the son of Henry
and Sarah Golding, and received
his early education in the local
schools. He was a machinist by
trade and for many years was
associated with the Robert Bell
Engine and Thresher Co. at Sea -
forth.
He served as a member of the
Seaforth council from 1916 to
1921, and mayor from then until
1929. Mr. Golding was first chair-
man of the Scott Memorial Hos-
pital board and served on the
board for 20 years. He also serv-
ed on the public utility commis-
sion and other local organiza-
tions.

Mr: Golding 'was a former
chairman of the Seaforth Liberal
Association and president of the
old South Huron Liberal Associa-
tion.
He was also a member of the
Seaforth Masonic Lodge, AF and
AM, and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Mr. Golding was a member of
Northside United Church to
which he took an active part, be-
ing a member of the official board
for many years until the time of
his death.
His wife, the former Elena
Kenchen of, Owen Sound, to
whom he was married Jan, 28th,
1913, died in 1959.
Surviving are his sons, Arthur,
London; Frank, St. Hubert, Que.;
daughters, Mrs. T. S. Perrett, of
Vancouver, B.C.; Mrs. J. C. Mark,
Dartmouth, N,S.; Mrs. Ross
Montgomery, Seaforth; and six-
teen grandchildren,
The body was at the Box fun-
eral home, Seaforth, until Tues-
day when service was held at 2
p.m. in Northside United Church.

Loses Life in Fire.

The body of Mrs. Donald Cur-
rie was found in the ruins of her
burned home at Brussels late
Sunday.
Searchers, .probing the debris

quest will be held but no date
has been set.
The body was taken to Kitch-
ener for an autopsy.
Police are investigating the
blaze which took the life of the
mother of three boys. Nothing
was salvaged from the home.
William Clark and Gary Wil-
son of Brussels, discovered
smoke pouring from the house
between 5.30 and 6 p,m. They
called firemen and attempted to
enter the house but were driven
back by intense heat and smoke,
Brussels firemen made a des-
perate attempt to quell the blaze
but failed after two large drums
of fuel oil In an adjoining shed
exploded.
By 9 p.m, the house was burn-
ed. out and firemen attempted to
pull down the walls with a truck
winch so that searchers could en-
ter the ruins.
Firemen said it was the tough-
est blaze they had been called to
contend with in years.
Mr. Currie was taken to the
home of a,'neighbor, Max Old-
field.
Mr. Currie escaped through a
rear kitchen door.
Two years and one day ago
fire destroyed the home of Mr.
and Mrs. David Firby, claiming
the lives of their three children.
Mrs. Firby was severely burned.
Mrs. Currie, the former Janet
McLean, is survived by her hus-
band, three sons, Douglas, John,
and Barry; mother, Mrs, Daisy
McLean, all of Brussels; sisters,
Mrs. George Somers, Misses Ru-
by and Grace, all of Brussels;
Mss. John Pennington, of Grey
township; Mrs. William Stewart,
Mitchell; Mrs. Frank Alcock and
a brother, Donald, both of Morris
township.
The Seaforth W. L•. will hold
their January meeting at the
home of Miss Thelma Elsie on
Jan. 9 at 2,15 p.m. The roll call
will be "a penny for each waist

St. Marys on December 23rd,
when Mrs. Olive Harding • of
Parkhill, and James A. MacDon-
ald of Seaforth, were united in
marriage. Rev. A. Campbell of-
ficiated. Mr. and Mrs. MacDon-
ald will reside in Seaforth.

Win at Stratford
Two Seaforth rinks were win-
ners in the students' open mixed
curling bonspiel at the Stratford
Country Club Friday. Sixteen
teams were entered from Strat-
ford, Listowel, Seaforth, London
and Woodstock,
There were two draws, with
each team playing a total of
three gauges, There were four
girls' teams and four boys'
teams in each draw,
Winners of the 9 a.m. draw
in the boys' division were a four-
sglne from Seaforth composed of
Ken Cardno, Peter Rowat, Laurie
Stockwell and. skip Karl Camp-
bell. The team had three wins
and a plus of 11,
Winner in the girls' division
was also a team from Seaforth,
skipped by Pam Stapleton, Otter
members of the team were Marg,

JOHN A. McKENZIE
The death occurred at Horne -
wood Sanatarium, Guelph, on
Saturday, Dec. 30th, of John Ar-
chibald McKenzie, aged 86 years.
The late Mr. McKenzie was a
former Seaforth grain merchant,
and farmer, having come to this
district in 1924.
Born at Drumbo, son of John
McKenzie and Clarissa Nichols
McKenzie, he was educated at
Windfall, Ont.
In early life he had been a lo•
comotive engineer, On June 26,
1912, he was married at Ratho
to Miss Jean Hewitt, who sur-
vives, with one son and two
daughters, John N„ Seaforth;
Helen, Mrs. John Holland, and
Marjorie, Mrs. Phillip Willis, of
Seaforth. There are six grand-
children, also two sisters, Misses
Rachel and Pearl McKenzie, of
Constance,
Ile was an adherent of First
Presbyterian Church, Seaforth,
and a member of A.F. & A.M.,
Oak Branch Royal Arch Masons.
The funeral was held on Wed-
nesday, Jan. 3, from the Box
