Miss Mary Lou Kirkby and J Miss Anne Achilles have accep - ed positions in the Telephone of- fice in Wingham, commencing last Monday. The McKillop Group sponsored an evening entertainment at the United Church, Walton, last Fri- day evening when Dr. McMaster gave an inspiring account of his recent trip to the Holy Land also showing a film. McMaster of Grand Bend, Mrs, G, McGavin gave courtesy remarks. Mrs. Wm. Dennis and Mrs. M. Hackwell were ushers and Mrs. A. Coutts and Mrs. N. Schade received the offering. A social half hour and lunch were enjoyed at the close of the, evening with the McKillop group as hostesses. The October meeting of the Walton Group of the WMS was held at the home of Mrs. Earl Watson opening with hymn 356. Mrs. Wm. Thamer presided and the scripture reading by Mrs. J. Clark was taken from Paul's Epistle to Timothy 1. 1-12 with comments by the leader, who also read a poem "Autumn Leaves", Points of Mrs. Harvey Brown's topic "What is Right with the Church" were (1) The abiding spirit and message of the Church will remain and a fellow- ship within the Church built for stormy waters; (2) The Church opens the book of Holy Writ and uplifts the cross of Jesus; (3) True Church folk are hinges of the gate of Heaven and men must still build God's House of prayer. Response to the roll call was a "Thanksgiving verse and for November will be "Name a Mis- sionary", The Fall Thankoffering meeting will be held Nov. 8 at 8 o'clock, Standard Time, with Mrs. A. Higginbotham as speak- er for the evening. Lunch to con- sist of sandwiches and squares, and two relish plates to be pro- vided. Country women will pro- vide the sandwiches. Watson, Mrs. G. Murray, Mrs. Ed Miller. The 8th and 16th Group met at the home of Mrs. Jan Van Vliet on Wednesday evening. Mrs. W. E. Turnbull read the scripture, St. Luke 1: 26.38: The topic was given by Mrs. Jack Bryans "The Life of Mary, the Mother of Je- sus". Mrs. J. Smith gave a read- ing "Something Good About You". Contests were conducted by Mrs. J. Bryans, Mrs. A. Mc- Donald conducted the business. An invitation to Constance on Oct. 18 and to the Thankoffering meeting at Moncrief on Oct. 29 at 8 ,p,m., and the Thankoffering meeting at Walton Church on Nov, 8 at 8 p.m. were accepted. Tickets and supper lists were given out for the fowl supper on h Nov. 1. The minutes were read and the roll can answered by 18 h ladies and there were 18 guests.
