Mrs. R. S. Hays
Moves To Detroit
Mrs. R. S. Hays, 93, is leaving
Seaforth this week to live in De-
troit. She has been a resident of
Seaforth for 69 years, coming
here in 1892. Her maiden name
was Ann Shane, being a daught-
er of Mr. and Mrs. William
Shane, pioneer Blyth residents.
She has lived in the house she is
leaving on Sperling Street for
upwards of half a century. •Mrs,
Hays has four sons and two
daughters; Charles, London;
Bess, Mrs. McClelland, Toronto;
Gordon, Detroit; Hector, Wind --
ser; Mary, Mrs. Montgomery, of
Detroit; George, Seaforth.
Frost To Assist in
Hospital Ceremony
" 1(Irs, Thomas Pryde, widow of
the late 1I,P.P, for Huron, will
lay the cornerstone of the new
Ontario Hospital, Goderich, on
September G. Premier Leslie M.
Frost will unveil a plaque in the
same ceremony to commemorate
the event.
The Goderich Hospital is the
first of the new style community
mental hospitals. Much of the
drive to establish such a hospit-
al in Huron County came from
Thomas Pryde who represented
the constituency from 1948 until
his death in 1958.
Also participating in the cere-
mony will be Hon. Ray Connell,
Minister of Public Works; Hon.
Matthew B. Dymond, Minister of
Health; Charles S. MacNaugh-
ton, M.P.P. for Huron; Warden
Ivan Forsyth of Huron County;
Mayor E. C. Fisher, of Goderich,
and Reeve W. J. Forbes, of God-
erich Township.
The first stage of construction
of this hospital includes 300 beds
in single -storey wings. Two-
storey administration and service
wings link the structures without
a long corridor or institutional
appearance. Anglin -Norcross Co.
Ltd., Toronto, are .contractors on
the $3,500,00 project scheduled
to be completed next summer.
Mrs. Pryde is the former Miss
Mary Bell of Seaforth.

it Toronto, Friday, Sept. 1. In-

Junior Judging Competition in
the morning, be free to visit the
various exhibits in the afternoon
and see the grandstand show in
the evening. The group will be
accompanied by D. H. Miles, Agr,

er Carolyn Deanne, to Robert
Hugh Gorwill, son of Dr. and
Mrs, john A. Gorwill, Seaforth,
Ont. Miss Ring is a graduate of
the Victoria Hospital School of
Nursing and plans to attend the
School of Nursing, University of
Western Ontario, this fall.
Mr. Gorwill is a student in the
faculty of medicine. University
of Western Ontario.
The wedding will take place in
the Chapel of First St, Andrew's
United Church, London, Ontario,
Sept, 22nd.

To Start Work
,On. Queen's Hotel
Details of a second licensed
hotel property In Seaforth ap•
Dear now to be nearly all settled,
Work is expected to start this
week on fitting np the historic
Queen's Hotel as a fully modern
liquor outlet.
Plans eall for completion of
the alterations so that the hostel-
ry will .be open well before
Christmas. Actual work is hoped
to be finished in seven or eight
weeks.
A large dining lounge, a cock-
tail lounge, and a men's bever-
age room for beer will be includ-
ed, There will however be no
ladies room.
The one story sample rooms
which face on north Main SL
will be demolished and open an
entrance to the men's beer room
which will be along the north
wall, The owner, Alex Bassen
of London, looked into the pur-
chase of adjoining property but
it is not for sale at present.
The remodelled hotel will have
22 rooms for lodgers on the sec-
ond and third floors.
It was stated Frank Kling
Ltd., who renovated the Commer-
cial Hotel, will likely do the work.

In the first game of the Win-
throp and Clinton series, Clinton
defeated Winthrop 2.1 to take
the first game of the series, the
next will be in Clinton on Thurs-
day night Aug, 31.
Winthrop lost the first game
of their semi-final series with
Clinton RCAF when they lost a
close gave by a score of 2-1. This
marked the first loss for the
Winthrop team after 29 consecu-
tive games without defeat. Clin-
ton led 1.0 at half time. -In the
2nd half they made it 2-0 on a
corner kick before Winthrop
found the range with John Boven
scoring for Winthrop. Winthrop
carried most of the play in the
last halt but couldn't notch the
equalizer. The next game will be
played in Clinton ou Thursday,
Aug. 31st.

MISS ELLIE RYAN
Miss Ellie Elizabeth Ryan died
in St. Mary's Hospital, London,
on Aug, 25th in her 79th year,
after a lengthy illness.
The body rested at the W. J.
Cleary funeral home, Seaforth,
from Saturday, August 26 until
Monday, August 28th when Re-
quiem High Mass was offered by
Rev. Father Arthur McHugh, of
Kingsville at St. James' Church.
Mrs, Phillip Speak of Woodstock
was soloist. Also present in the
sanctuary were Father P. J. Har-
rigan, St. Marys, Interment fol-
lowed in St. James' Cemetery.
Miss Ryan was a daughter of
late llr. and Mrs. Richard Ryan,
Walton. She is survived by one
sister, Mrs, Hannah Klein, Lon-
don. She was predeceased by
two sisters and three brothers,
She lived most of her life in Mc-
Killop, and later in Seaforth,
Wingham and Lasalette.
The pallbearer's were Francis
Klein, Stratford; Lawrence and
Joseph Ryan, Walton; Vincent
and John Lane, Seaforth; and
John Moylan, Seaforth,
Nieces and nephews were pre-
sent for the funeral from Toren -
to, London, Wingham, Brussels,
Stratford, Woodstock, Lucan.

After Car Crash
Lorne Hulley, 60, of Sotith

For Bride -Elect
On Saturday August 2Gth, Mrs.
John Boyd entertained at a
trousseau tea in honor of her
daughter Margaret prior to her
marriage on Sattuday, Sept,. 2, in
Cavan United Church, Winthrop.
Guests were received by Mrs.
John Boyd, mother of the bride -
elect and Mrs. Stewart Dale, mo-
ther of the groom -to -be. Baskets
of summer flowers were arrang-
ed throughout the house. The
white linen tea table was centred
with pink and white snapdragons
and pink candles in silver hold-
ers. The buffet was centred with
a three -tiered wedding cake,
Miss Suzanne Dale was in
charge of the guest book. Pour
lug tea in the afternoon were
Mrs. Isabella Boyd and Mrs.
Howard Armstrong. In the even-
ing Mrs. William Boyd and Mrs.
Agnes Dale. Guests were served
by Misses. Eileen Smith and Mar-
garet Hillon and in the evening
Mrs. Lloyd Cooper and Misses
Gloria Boyd and Lois Godkin.
