CONSTANCE Several from the community attended the 60th wedding anni- versary of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Adams last Friday evening held at the Orange Hall in Seaforth. Mr. Chas. McGregor of Mark - dale spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Mc- Gregor. Hail and heavy rain early Sun- day afternoon did considerable crop damage at Leitch's, Wilbur Jewitt's, Lorne Lawson's and Walmer. Window panes were bro- ken. The village and half mile escaped. Mr. W. L. Whyte has returned home from Victoria hospital, at London, after being a patient for the last few weeks. Misses Linda and Diane Press- cator are holidaying with their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Webb of Dashw000d, while David Preszcator is holi- daying with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Pfaff of Orediton, Mr, Gordon Buchanan who has been visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs, Alf Buchanan left last Thursday .for Toronto and left on Saturday for his home in North Surrey, B.C. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Huth of Clifford visited Sunday with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross McGregor. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buchanan and family along with Mr, and Waterloo Cattle Breeding Association "where better bulls are used" Regarding our 20th Anniversary Celebration being held on July 26th at our headquarters, (one-half mile east of highway 85 on Lexing- ton Road on the North East edge of Waterloo. May also be reached from the east through Bridgeport. The Rt. Hon. JOHN G. DIEFENBAKER and Mrs. Diefenbaker will be present at our beef barbecue prepared by Master Chef, Tom Hays. Tickets are $1.00 and must be purchased one week in advance. We can handle 3000 people at the barbecue and therefore only 3000 tick- ets will be sold. Miss Joyce Kerslake spent the weekend with Miss Mary Lynn Allen of Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Heagy of London visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. George Wallace, Mrs. IC, McKellar attended a miscellaneous shower held in El- imville Church on Friday night. in honor of her niece, Miss An- na Routly whose marriage to Mr. Donald Wilcox of Kitchener takes place on Saturday, July 22. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Scott and Alec left on Saturday on a motor trip through the Western provin- ces. Misses Alice Walker and Joyce Kerslake were among the num. her of Jr. Farmers who enjoyed a bus trip to Niagara Falls on Friday. HULL.ETT During a severe electrical storm which swept the , Blyth area about 2 pin. Sunday after- noon, a large flank barn on the farm of James Scott, Sr., 19 Con. Hullett Township, three miles east of Blyth, was destroyed by ,fire. Lost in the blaze were this year's hay crop and some haying equipment stored in the barn. Mr, Scott had completed hay- ing aying Saturday. Mr, and Mrs. Scott were away 'from home at the time, visiting friends. A neighbor, Frank Kon- arski, saw the fire and sum- moned Blyth Fire Brigade, which' with the help of friends and firemen, rescuednine calves and two cows in the stable. Five pigs were lost in the fire, and three others which were in - Aired were destroyed. The firemen managed tosave two implement buildings less than 15 feet from the barn, al- though a strong wind was blow- ing towards the building. The loss is estimated at $12,- 500. 12;600. ' At the height of the storm, heavy hailstones, described as "large chunks of ice," pummel- led the fields. CROP REPORT Heavy rains and hail did con- siderable damage to crops on Thursday and Sunday, On Thurs- day heavy rains flattened wheat and washed white bean fields in Exeter, Grand Bend Area, Sun- day heavy rains again caused heavy damage particularly be- tween Centralia and Kippen a- long No. 4 Highway. Fall wheat, spring grain and hay fields are flat and twisted. Heavy rain and hail caused damage to wheat, corn, spring grain and orchards from Clinton to Blyth in a two-mile strip, east of No. 4 Highway. FORTY YEARS AGO From The Seaforth News July 1921 Stanley Nichol, Seaforth Boy Scout, won praise for saving Sandy Walker from drowning be- tween the piers at Bayfield. When Walker began to sink and called for help, Stanley jumped in and held him up till help came. July wedding: Miss Ella J. Chesney, Egmondville, and. Rob- ert MacKenzie. • Mrs. George Chegney has re- turned to Toronto after visiting friends in Seaforth. A car stolen at Bayfield was found in the yard of Mrs. Wil- liam Glenn, south boundary, Hib- bert. Her car was stolen from the yard and later found at Springbank. The well drillers have struck a splendid supply of water behind the town hall at a depth of 146 feet.
