FEDERATION NEWS
(J. Carl Hemingway)
Are you looking for something
for nothing? If your are, then you
are eligible for somebody's suck-
er -list,
Two or three months ago con-
siderable publicity was given to
a promotion whereby you sudden-
ly fbund yourself the winner of
about $1,000 worth of household
equipment. Of course you had to'
answer some questions and supply
a list of prospects.
In the end you paid $250 to
$300 for your prize which has
been valued at about $i50,
Apparently a new racket has
developed in a household item at
a price of about $240, You pay a.
small down payment and agree
t pay the further monthly in-
stalments to cover the purchase.
However the whole deal really
won't cost you a cent and per-
haps you will make a hundred
since you gave promoter 20 names
of prospects and he will surely
sell to at least halt of them and
will pay you $25. on each sale. At
this point you will have the item
and be $10. ahead. Of course
there could be 2D sales thus giv-
ing you $260,00. Isn't that just
dandy!
Let's suppose there are 100
families in the area, Five can
supply the twenty names but the
other 95 will find themselves
hooked wjth an impossible propo-
sition since all the names have al-
ready. been used. This is just the
modern chain letter racket, Shall.
we say "A word to the wise"?
A meeting of Poultry Producers
is to be held in the Lord Simcoe
Hotel, Toronto, on April 11th at
9,30 a.m. At this meeting the Egg
Marketing Plan will he presented
for approval. There has been
some disagreement as to the legal
terminology which may have to
be overcome but in speaking to
Mr, Everett Biggs on the subject
he assured me that if producers
show strong agreement in rea-
sonable numbers these difficul-
ties will be taken care of,
Basically the Marketing Plan is
the same as that proposed at the
December meeting, It is pattern.

THE, LEGION CORNER
Well comrades and friends we
are back again with a bit of
news for you. After a most en-
joyable bowling schedule over
the winter months, the finals
have taken place and a team cap,
tamed by Ken Powell emerged
the winner, Other members of
kis team were Mrs. Ken Powell,
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Dennis,
Harold Nicholson and Margaret
Hudson. To really wind the
whole thing up the members of
the bowlingg league are going to
have, a banquet and social even-
ing, the date to be announced
later.
At long last we are going to
have an official opening of the
Legion on Friday, June 2nd.
On account of the importance
of this occasion there is plenty
of work to be done, land-
scaping, painting and all that
goes with a general clean-up so
let's turn out comrades and make
the place really shine. There is
quite a program connected with
the opening so we are all hoping
for a real turnout of the com-
rades and a break from the wea-
therman. I'll have more details
for you next week so until then
let's not forget the ones who are
not here. At the going down of
the sun and in ;the morning we
shall remember them.
CIRCUS COMING
Clowning is • a business • before
it is an art. Not all clowns are
artists, but both the stars and
the rank and file—have learned
their trade the hard way, the big
top way. They know their busi-
ness. Clowns are not born. How-
ever, the good ones are born with
the comedy spark. But they are
not the ones the folks at home
refer to as "born clowns". No cut-
ups ever held a crowd in the
Big Show with "life of the party"
antics. Every skit, gag or walk -
around 'clown bit' is a studied
thing. Knowledge of human na-
ture, psychology and comedy
knowhow are factors in each bit,
nd matter how brief or trivial.
The Carson & Barnes clowns
have all been through the mills—
they are mastersof their business
and their business is provoking
laughs and bringing happiness to
children of all ages. The clowns
however, are ,just one small part
of the mighty entertainment pro-
gram of this year's stellar pro-
gram presented by Carson and
Barnes Circus.
Coming to Seaforth for Matinee
and night engagement on Thurs.
day, July 6. Sponsored by Lions
Club.
Organization and to supply mon'
ey to provide an equalization fund
for the purchase of surplus for
export.
A negotiated price will be
agreed upon by the Poultry
Producers and thetrade each
week. If the trade cannot sell all
available eggs at or above this
price the Marketing Board will
purchase the surplus and either
subsidize It into export or havu
it processed.
We must realize that this plan
will not make egg production
highly profitable but there are
some advantages that are attrac-
tive.
It can be expected to remove
