Hugh Campbell
Is 99 Years
On May 17, Hugh Campbell ob•
,served his 99th birthday. The
family gathered 'at his home in,
Walton where progressive euchre,
his favorite pastime, was the
highlight of the evening. A sol;,
A. M. Campbell of Toronto, came
for the occasion, but a daughter,
Mrs, Gordon, Kerr, also of Toron-
to, was unable to attend,
Mr. Campbell plays cards with•
out glasses and can read for
short periods without them, Not
until last summer did he give tip
tending his garden, Much of the
time he lives alone.'

The Tuckersmith School Area
Board has engaged`. Mr. Don Tre-
meer, Seaforth to teach in S.S. 2,
and Miss Melva Boyce, Brucefield
to teach in S.S. 7, for the 1961-62
term,
Miss Dorothy •Turner resigned
from the teaching position at S S
2 and Mrs. Margaret Garrett re-
signed from S S 7 on the comple-
tion of this term,
The School board accepted the
application of Ernest Brown to
fill the caretaker vacancy at the
Egmondville School, replacing J.
Earle, who resigned because of
ill -health.
Grand Sup't Visits
Malloch Chapter
A large number were present
at the meeting of Malloch Chap-
ter here on Monday evening, May
15, when the Chapter was host
to the Grand Superintendent, John
W. McFadyen. He is from Tiver-
ton, a member of Kincardine.

on District No. 6. There were
many distinguished visitors pre-
sent from Goderich, Clinton

ell and surrounding territory,

35th Anniversary
of L. O. B. A.
On Wednesday afternoon, May
10, the LOBA held their 35th
birthday with a dessert euchre in
the Orange Hall, which was dec-
orated with daffodils and spring
flowers. Mrs. Collins, W. M., re-
ceived the guests at the door.
After the dessert the games of
euchre were enjoyed. Prize win-
ners: roadies high, Mrs. H. Mc-
Kellar; lone, Mrs. Geo. Tunny;
con., Mrs. Hay. Lucky prize went
to Mrs. Cairns.
In the evening 21 tables sat
for dessert, then played euchre
which everyone enjoyed. A draw
for the lovely satin comforter
was drawn by Mrs. Shobbrook of
Clinton. Winning ticket was held
by Mrs. A. Crozier of Seaforth.
Lucky cup was won by Mrs.
Grummett, Winners , at euchre
were ladies high, Mrs. Shobbrook
(Clinton); lone, Mrs. Walter
Scott; con., Mrs. Hoggart. Men's
high, George Campbell; lone, E.
Clarke; con., Albert O'Reilly.
The members wish to thank all
those who attended.
THOMAS G. LANE
Thomas George Lane, 85 of
Tuckersmith Township, died Fri-
day at Scott Memorial Hospital
in Seaforth. He was a life-long
Tuckersmith farmer, and is sur-
vived by three daughters, Mrs.
Hugh (Loretta) Deady, May-
nooth; Mrs. Keith (Margaret)
Smith, Toronto; Mrs. Jack (Eliza-
beth) Nicholson, Preston; five
sons, Mervyn, Charles, both of
Tuckersmith; William- of Orillia;
Joseph, McKillop Twp., and Louis
of Edmonton. The funeral was
held on Monday from the Box.
Funeral Home to St. James'
Roman Catholic Church for requi-
em high mass at 10 a.m. Rev. C.
E. Sullivan was in charge. Burial
was in St. James' Cemetery.
The pallbearers were: John
Flannery, Maurice Etue, Alex
Boyes, Elmer Cameron, Harold
Nicholson, Pearson Charters.

Here Saturday
The Annual Huron County
Livestock Judging Competition
will be held in Seaforth com-
munity centre on Saturday, May
20th, commencing at 9 a,m. It is
open to young men and women
12 to 30 years of age. Three clas-

cattle and swine and one class of
sheep will be judged,

in project, paraded, wearing the
dresses they had made, each girl
giving her name and the cost of
her dress.
Clubs placing exhibits and giv-
ing comments were Brussels, No.
I1, Seaforth District, Seaforth No,
1, Cranbrook and McKillop, The
exhibits depicted "Good Lines
for different figures", "Cottons
may be Smart' and "Good Quali-
I ty in Cottons".
Interesting skits and demon-
strations were put on by Ethel,
Moncrieff, Brussels, Walton, Sea -
forth and McKillop Clubs and in-
cluded such topics as "Cottons
May 'go Anywhere" and "Pattern
Alterations", An interesting skit
put on by a Brussels Club re-
presented • a fashion show on.

Certificates of Achievement
were presented to each girlwho
had completed two projects and
a silver spoon to each girl who
had completed the current pro-
ject,
The fall project is to be "Fea-
turing Fruit". Mrs. Bette Miller,
Huron's Home Economist was as-
sisted by Mrs. H. Brightwell of
Stratford and Miss Margaret
Burrill, Home Economist for El-
gin County.

Home and School
Annual Meeting
The May meeting of the Sea -
forth Home and School Associa-
tion was held in the school audi-
torium on May 16 with Mrs. Wm
Hodgert presiding. The meeting
opened with 0 Canada and re-
peating The Lord's Prayer in un-
ison. Mrs. Hodgert welcomed all
present. Mrs. J. Patterson, in the
absence of Mrs. Moore, read the
minutes of the last Annual Meet-
ing. The annual reports were
printed and circulated. Elaine Oke
and Janet Turnbull entertained
with two delightful dance num-
bers Parent of the month award
was won by Mn, E. Williams and
Grade 1 won the attendance
award. The meeting agreed to
send delegates to Leadership
training camp being held at Lon -
ford Mills on June 15-18.
Mr. E. Williams introduced a
panel of new Canadians who re-
presented England, Germany,
Hungary and Holland, The mem-
bers of the panel discussed edu-
cation and Social Life in their na-
tive land. A question and answer
period followed. The panelists
had many articles of their na-
tive land on display. Members
taking part were Mrs. C. Coombs,
Mr. John Michels, Dr. Grubner
and Mr. 2'. Knetsch.
Mrs, D. Nixon expressed ap•
preciation to those taking part
in the evening's meeting.
Mrs. W. Hodgert thanked 'ev-
eryone for their support and. en-
couragement during her term as
president and urged the mem-
bers' continued aid to the new
president they had elected.
Mr. Talbot was then called on
to install the slate of officers for
1961.62,

Wilson Little is
New Road Supt.
Wilson Little of Winthrop was
appointed new road superintend-
ent for McKillop township at a
special meeting of the Council on
Tuesday night, He succeeds Wm,
Manley who recently resigned af-
ter 31 years.,as road Superintend,
Mr. Little who is a former
township councillor will start on
June 6th.. His salary is on an
hourly basis at 91,15 per hour,
plus car allowance,

Double Wedding at
Kippen Saturday
'Baskets of hyacinths, narcissus
and jonquils formed a floral back-
ground for the wedding in St,
Andrew's United Church, Kippen,
Saturday, May 13th of Mary Eliz-
abeth and Annabelle Mae twin
daughters of Mr. and Mrs. W.
Pearson Charters to John Alex-
ander and Douglas Edgar Mc-
Gregor, sons of Mr, and Mrs,
Alex B, McGregor, all residents
of Kippen, The Rev, Harold
Johnston performed the double
ring ceremony at 3 p.m. which
united two of Tuckersmith's old-
est families, Mrs. John A. McGre-
or of Seaforth, grandmother of
the grooms, was organist and ac-
companied the soloist Miss Jean
Ivison who sang "0 Perfect Love"
and "I'll Walk Beside You".
Mr. Charters gave his daught-
ers in marriage. The brides wore
identical floor -length gowns of
Chantilly lace and tulle over taf-
feta. The snugly fitted bodice of
lace was styled with long lily -
point sleeves, Iridescent sequins
accented the scalloped neckline.
The bouffant skirt was graced
with lace panels flowing to a
brush train, The dresses were
colonial in design. A finger-tip
veil of double French illusion
was held in place by a pointed
cap of pleated tulle edged with
pearls and sequins. They carried
crescent bouquets of large white
"mums", stephanotis and" green
wax leaves. Miss Marjory Chart-
ers, sister of the brides, was
maid of honor for Anne, and Miss
Katherine McGregor, sister of the
grooms was maid of honor for
Mary. Miss Charters was gowned
in delphinium blue organza over
taffeta, and Miss McGregor wore
the same but in orchid shade.
Their • flowers identical were
white mums and stephanotis. The
best man was James Love of
Zurich for Douglas and Kenneth
Richardson of Hensall for John.
Scott Powell of Galt, and William
Workman, Kippen, ushered the
guests.
Following the ceremony the
brides' parents entertained at a
reception in the church parlors.
For receiving Mrs. Charters wore
a sheath dress of pearl chiffon
over printed taffeta and match-
ing accessories and a corsage of
pink delight roses. Mrs. McGreg-
or chose a gown of lavender or-
ganza over printed taffeta with a
matching three -quarter -length
coat. She wore yellow gardenias.
Assisting in serving were Miss
Norma Hoegy of Kitchener;
Miss Shirley Bender, Dashwood;
Miss Georgine McCartney, Lon-
don, and Mrs, James Love, Zur-
ich, Both brides are graduates of
Wells Academy, London,
For travelling the brides wore
beige linen sheath., ensembles. The
dress, was embroidered with
shades of beige and brown with
three -quarter -length coat and
mandarin collar, with accessories
in brown and beige, and blue car-
nation corsages. They will reside
on the grooms' farms on R,R. 2,
Kippen.
