McMillan, LADIES' GUILD The Ladies' Guild of St. Thom- as' Anglican Church met in the Parish Hall for the April meeting. The president, Mrs. C..Rowcliffe, presided.. Following the opening prayers and scripture reading, the secre- tary's and treasurer's reports were given by Mrs. G. Stockwell and Mrs. E. Dinsmore. An invitation was extended to the ladies for the Annual Daffodil Tea sponsored by the Seaforth Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. A "thankyou" note was'. received from Mrs. Dennis Jewitt for the cup and saucer sent to her from the Guild. At the May meeting there is to be a shower for the variety booth when each member is ask- ed to bring an article for that booth at the November bazaar. Also at this meeting the mem- bers are asked to bring new ideas. and suggestions that will add to the bazaar. The Guild decided to serve lunch to the cast of the Minstrel show. The offering was received and . dedicated and the president closed the meeting with the benediction, NORTHSIDE W. A. The meeting of the W. A. of Northside United Church was held on Wednesday, April 12. The meeting opened with a devotional period led by Mrs. N. Schneider who took as her theme "Humili- ty" with the scripture reading St;' John 13: This was followed ,by 'hymn 166 and the motto, theme song and prayer of the W. A. The minutes of the previous meeting were then read followed by reports of the groups and var- ious committees. Letters and mail; were then read and discus' sed,.; Delegates were appointed for the Huron Presbytery Annual meeting, and appointments were made to the Official Board of the Church. The Strawberry Supper was discussed and it was decided to hold it in June, as usual, with the date and particulars to be decid- ed later. The question of catering for weddings was brought for- ward and it was decided the pric et. were to be set by the Social Committee. Several of the ladies volunteer- ed to launder and repair the cur- tains in the Sunday School. – The meeting closed with hymn 436, and the Mizpah Benediction, DUBLIN COLLEENS The second meeting of our 4-H ilnh was held at the home of Mrs. Friend. It was called to ord- er by the, president. The roll call wad two reasons I eat fruit. We discussed our receipt books, We were taught how to purchase fruit, cook fresh fruit, store fruit, We then made a jelly salad and designed it in a mould, We took the different varieties of apples, fruits we grow in, Canada. The next meeting is at Mrs. Friend's. The roll call will be my favorite apple and Why. ST. THOMAS W,. A, HOLD BAKE SALE AND TEA The ladies of St. Thomas' W.A. held a bake sale and tea Wednes- daY Aiwa 12 at the Parish hall.ll. The Rev. Donaldson opened the tea at 2.30 pm, with a very up- propriate speech. Mrs. Harvey and Mrs. Bethune poured ` tea, The tables Were decorated with lovely aiming flowers, arrange• meats made by Mrs. Larone. Con- veners for the tea, Mrs. Bruce McLean, Miss D. Parke, Mrs. John Oldfield, Mrs. D, Ault. Pres- ident, Mrs, MCGavin, and Mrs. Donaldson, welcomed the ladies at the door. There was a large at- tendance and it was a very sue- , easeful tea and hake sale, IMRS. DAVID WATSON Mrs. David John Watson of Hallett Township, died Thursday evening in Clinton Public. Hospit- al, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. She would have been 68 this Sunday. Previous to her marriage she was Agnes Muir Trewin, daughter of the late Mr, and Mrs, Albert Tre- win of Hallett Township, Her husband died 18 months ago. Sur- viving is her step -mother, Mrs. Lily Trewin, Holland Centre; one sister, Mi's, E. S,, (Margaret) Reid of Walton; and one brother, William Trewin, Hallett Town- ship. The funeral servile was held on Saturday from Tasker Memorial Chapel, Blyth. Rev. W. M. Thomas of Walton United Church officiated, Burial was in Union Cemetery, Blyth, ST, THOMAS' W. A. MEETING St. Thomas W.A. met for the April meeting at the Rectory with 20 members answering roll call and one guest. The meeting opened with hymn 388 "Jesus Shall Reign", Miss Anna Stewart at the piano. Mrs. Donaldson read the scripture St, 'John, 10th chap. followedby litany. Mrs. MCGavin, President, presiding. Mrs. Harvey gave a talk on our study book, the subject this month was "The Lambeth Conference and what our Bishops are tryingto do for Church Union Mrs. Harvey said the first rule of our organization is prayer. The thankoffering box- es were opened and Mrs. MCGavin dedicated the proceeds. Roll call, last month's report and Mrs. Mc - Gavin reminded ladies the annual meeting is to be held in Kitchen- er April 25, 26, Letters and notes were.read from sick and shut-ins. Treasurer's report. The. April 12 bake sale and tea were discussed and last minute arrangements were made. Other business was. discussed and Mrs. McGa'vin end- ed the business meeting with ded- ication of collection. Mrs.,Donald- son showed some lovely',pictures of her recent trip to Chili, they were very interesting, .showing some pictures of the - recent earthquake and tidal wave that hit Chili last year. A delicious lunch was served, donated by Mrs. Case and a social evening was had by all. McKILLOP WMSD AN WA The regular meeting of the WMS and WA of Duff's.: Church, McKillop, met at the home of Mrs. John Kerr with a good at- tendance. WMS president, Mrs. Gordon McKenzie opened the meeting with hymn 154 which was read in unison. "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" was sung. Mrs. George Wheatley led in prayer. Mrs. Gordon McKenzie gave a talk on the study book on Africa. Mrs. Ken Campbell read an article on Brotherhood. Secre- tary-Treas., Mrs. Eldin Kerr gave the treasurer's report 'and the minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. Mrs. Aaron Jantzi, W. A. presi- dent opened the W. A. part of the meeting with the theme, a hymn and a prayer. Scripture, Isaiah 6: was read by Mrs. Gord- on McKenze and commented on by Mrs, Aaron Jantzi. Minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary-treas., Mrs. Geo. Wheat- ley and adopted. Many invitations were read and excepted.: A read- ing was given by Mrs. Ken Stew- art "The Light of the World" and "What Does Easter Mean to Us". The meeting closed with hymn 252 and Mrs. Aaron Jantzi led in prayer. Lunch was served and a social half hour spent. CROP REPORT Good weather lasted sufficient- ly long for a number of people to get a start at seeding—some have finished. Cool wet weather with some snow will keep farmers off the land for a few days. Winter wheat is not looking good in a number of areas; there is very little growth to date, There ap- pears to be ample feed for live, stock till grass time, NORTH McKILLOP The Bethel WMS held their Ea- ster Thankoffering meeting in the church on April 6th at 8,15 p.m. and had as their guests ladies from Willow Grove, McKillop Evangelical, Winthrop and buffs. The President opened the meet- ing with a short poem and the opening hymn was 115, The scrip- ture lesson was read by Mrs. Murray Dennis, and the medita- tion on it by Mrs. Don Dennis, Mrs. Charles Boyd led in prayer. A group of Explorer Girls sang two numbers and Geraldine Den- nis played an accordion selection. Margaret Hillen sang a solo "In the Garden"'. Tennie Dennis in- troduced the speaker for the ev-1 ening who was Mrs. Struthers of Mitchell, She gave' a very inter- esting and informative message on "The Power of the Spoken Word". Mrs. Leonard Leeming thanked the speaker and all those taking part in the meeting. The ' ladies were reminded of the in-' vitation to meet with the Walton ladies for their thankoffering meeting on April 10th at 8.16 pan, Hymn 86 was dung and the Benediction was pronounced, A soeial half-hour followed. WALTON The Mission Band of Duff's 'Un ited Church was held in the Church. basement Sunday morn Mg with Gary Bennett in charge, The Mission Hand hymn "I may not go to Africa" was sung with Audrey McMichael at the piano, The call to worship was "Create in us a clean heart 0 God, and puta new and spirt within e n right1 us". The hymn, learned last week "God Loves all His Children" was sung followed by the leader Mrs. W. Bewley talking about Je- sus h al n thelepers, e i g The lead- er explained the Thankoffering and the offering was received by Bruce Clark and Larry Walt- ers with offertory prayer by Douglas Wey. Minutes of last meeting were read by Bruce Clark, Secretary, in absence of Jack McCall who was ill. The next meeting will be held the 3rd Sunday in May on ac- count of Mother's Day falling on, the 2nd Sunday. The following. will take part in the May meet- ing: Pianist Alexine Williamson, prayer, Billy Hellinga; scripture, Larry Walters, A film was shown "Balm and the Easter Fair". After the singing of the first hymn the President took her scripture reading from Rev. 21: 1.6 and led in prayer, Mrs. R. Bennett gave the Secretary's re- port and read thanks from the McArthura, Mrs• J. Van Vliet Jr„ Mrs. H. McCallum, Mrs. R. Hous- ton, Mrs. H. Hackwell and Miss M. B. Mowbray. The treasurer's'i, report was given by Mrs. A. Coutts. Delegates were picked to go to Winthrop on May 3 to the. W. A. Presbytery. Mrs. Reid won- dered if someone could be sent to Five Oaks on June 6 and 7. The singing of hymn 494 followed by the Benediction brought the meeting to a close. Mrs. Emerson Mitchell vice president of WMS presided for the April meeting. She opened by reading a poem and offering prayer. Mrs. C. Ritchie gave her report as morning delegate to Presbyterial at Wingham. Mrs. C. Martin gave her report as after- noon delegate, Mrs. R. McMichael reported a raise in our allocation. The minutes and roll call were given by Mrs. T. Dundas. The articles for the bale are to be in the church by May 1. The topic was given by members of 16th and 8th group with Mrs. Don Mc- Donald as leader, assisted by Mrs. Jim McDonald, Mrs. Les Oliver and •Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull, Mrs. H. Smalldon rendered a solo ac companied by Mrs. M. Baan. Mrs, W. Turnbull gave the treas- urer's report. Mrs. E. Mitchell offeredra r p ye ,Hymn 485 "Jesus keep me near the Cross" was sung followed by prayer which closed the meeting, Mr, and Mrs. Donald Buchanan were guests of honor Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Turnbull. The occa- sion was their 25th wedding anniversary. During the evening they' were presented with a chair and other gifts. A turkey lunch- eon was served to about 35 guests from Stratford,-Goderich. St. Pauls, Ingersoll, Seaforth and Brussels. Miss Mary Belle Archibald of Tara . visited Monday evening with Miss Nora Anderson. Mrs. Edward Bryans is confin- ed to the Wingham hospital at present. CROMARTY On. Wednesday Mrs. J. Wallace, Mrs. Wm. Miller, –Mrs. Grace Scott, Mrs. L. Sorsdahl, Mrs• T. L. Scott and Mrs. K. McKellar attended the annual meeting of Hamilton -London Synodical which was held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Sarni a. They also visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cadick. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Coleman, John, Joan and Allen of Seafortb were Sunday visitors with Mr. Andrew McLachlan and •Mrs. G. Scott. Mr, and Mrs. Frank Cadick, Sharon and Donald of Sarnia spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. John Wallace. Mrs. Wm, Sillery of Exeter visited. on Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Will Hamilton. Miss Elizabeth Thiel of Mitch- ell spent the weekend with Miss Alice Walker. Mrs. Ethel Currie of Winnipeg is visiting this week with friends in this community. Mr. and Mrs, John Chessell and son Robert of Mitchell visited on Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sorsdahl. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dodds and family of Walton and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dolmage of Sea - forth visited during the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dodds. Mr, and Mrs. H. R. Currie, Lin- da and Joanne of Dorchester vis- ited on Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Otto Walker. Mrs. T. L. Scott entertained a group of ladies at a Stanley Brush demonstration at her home on Monday evening, Communion service conducted by the minister, Rev. S. Kerr, was observed at the Sunday Service to a large congregation. New names added to the membership were John McDougall by profes- sion and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Carey and Mrs. Alex Gardiner by letter. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Carey spent the weekend in George. town with their daughter, Mrs. L, E. Abbiss. Mr, Wm, Hulley spent the weekend at his home here. The April Meeting of WMS and W. During the business period Mrs, G. Neil and Mrs. C, Park were appointed program commit- tee for the May meeting, A bale containing quilts and clothing was sent, to Toronto for relief work, Ideas for raising money were exchanged when it was de- cided to have a bake sale in the near future, A reading "I Remem- ber" was given by Mrs. Sterling Grahm. Mrs, Ross McPhail led in prayer, and also gave current events, Mrs, N. Dow gave a topic from the study book,"The Ship Under the Cross", Mrs. C. Chris• tie favored with an accordion solo. The meeting closed with a hymn and prayer by Mrs. Dow. Mrs. Ed, Boyes then gave a reading, "Whispering Hope", Prayer was then taken by Mrs. Bruce McGregor. Hymn 348 was sung after which Miss Houston then made some an- nouncements. The family pews seem to be going out of the Churches, Mrs. Roy McGonigle then thanked guest speaker and all who had taken part, Another solo by Sharon Strong was very much enjoyed after which the meeting closed with hymn 239 and Benediction.
