FREDERICK W. AHRENS
Frederick William Ahrens, St.
Andrews St, South, Mitchell, died
Monday Dec, 6 in Stratford Gen-
eral Hospital where he had been
a patient for two days. He was
born at Lot 24, Con. 4, Logan top.
on Sept. 23, 1885 son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. William Frederick
Ahrens (Wilhelmina Eisler). On
May 29, 1912 he was married, at
St. John's Lutheran Church, See-
bach's Hill, to Ida Meyer, and
they farmed in Logan twp. until
11 years ago, when they moved to
Mitchell, Dir. Ahrens was a well
known auctioneer in this district,
and was a former reeve and coun-
cilor in Logan twp. IIe was a
member of Grace Lutheran
Church, Mitchell. Besides his wife
he is survived by three sons, Wil-
fred, Hamilton; Alvin, Logan
twp. and Harold of Ancaster; one
daughter Mrs. Lloyd (Ruth) Mor•
risen of Fullerton twp., 12 grand-
children; two sisters, Mrs. John
(Ella) NIikel, Ellice twp. and Mrs.
Henry (Hulda) Bach, Hamilton.
The late Mr. Ahrens was resting
at the Heath -Leslie funeral home
in Mitchell until Thursday Dec,
29th, at noon when removal was
made to Grace Lutheran Church
for funeral service at 2.30. Rev,
Norman Schiukel, pastor, officiat-
ed and burial was in Grace Lath
-
man cemetery, Mitchell.

nate, I expect most of them are
taking up their belts a notch or
two to meet what lies ahead.
Even the Hog Producers are
undaunted and are even now lay-
ing plans for a "FAME" share
sellil' campaign early in the
new year. There seems to be a
strong feeling of enthusiasm and
determination on the part of pro'
ducers in this direction and even.
tually they will have their own
processing plants.
In the present marketing situ
ation for the Hog Producers the
future does not look bright. The
recent order by the Farm Prod,
ucts Marketing Board states that
the Hog Producers must present
a new method of marketing hogs
by January 1Gth.
This seems to be unreasonable,
A good many years and several
experiments were required in the
development of the present meth'
od so it is hardly likely that a
better plan can be developed in it
couple of weeks, (After all the
members of the Hog Producers'
Marketing Board would like to
have a few .days off to relax for
Christmas and New Year's).
The new methods suggested by
Mr. McCague have already been
suggested by Hog Producers over
the past couple of years but pre•
viot,sly apparently did not meet
with the approval of the Gover-
ment -appointed body. Why the
change of heart?
It seems to be intended in all
three of the suggestions, open
auction, Dutch clock and ticker
tape bidding, that all buyers must
somehow be assembled in one
place in Toronto,
I think all of you will realize
that it will be most inconvenient
for a great many of the smaller
packers to arrange to have a re-
presentative attend this place of
sale at all times. To avoid this
difficulty the Farm Products
Marketing Board can license buy'
ere who could purchase hoge for
several plants. In other words
several broker's will be necessary
who will have to be paid for out
of the proceeds of the hog,

might easily approach the centro'-'

Since this additional expense
is at the order of the Government

be logical to have the Govern,

The alternative seems to be
