HIGH SCfI00I, E\
INC .EASE IS F
Allen lance at Seaforth Dist1'iot
High School is expected to be
slightly higher than last year's
305, Principal L. P. Plunastoel said
this week. The summer survey of
rural pupils shows that between
200 and 275 will register at the op-
ening of school or soon afterwards.
A guess at the number of town pu-
pils expected le about :116.
There are nearly always a few
country pupils who drop out after
Grade 8, and do not go on to high
school, This is a foot that is hard
to believe in this day and age. Me,
Phlmetcel remarked, however',
there Would not be more than 5
or 6 in the entire school area. If
they are tinder age and quit with-
out entering high school, such pu-
pils are not the responsibility of
the high school attendance officer.
It is the responsibility of the twps,
Sooner or later the family allow-
ance board may catch up with such
cases, as family allowance cea8ee
when a child quits school, Any
family allowance payments made
for the child out of 5011001 mast
be paid back by the parents if de-
tected.
High School will re -open on
Tuesday, Sept, 6th at 10 a.m. un-
less the lagoon for sewage dtop0sal
is not ready. A bulldozer and pow-
er shovel are rushing that part of
the contract this week. Great piles
of earth surround the lagoon as It
is scooped out in the field adjac-
ent to the school yard, east of
where the foundations are being
laid f01' the new addition.
If the (liepoeal system is not
conuected up, school opening will
be postponed, it is said. Prospects
are that 8011001 will open on sched-
ule, so students needn't have too
high hopes of (t few extra bolielays.
The lunch room and agricultural
room have been redecorated during
the 811111111er, and 1vil1 be used as
classrooms until the addition is
completed, which is expected to be
between Christmas and New Year.
A gas furnace has been install-
ed in the school bum where agri-
cultural classes will be held until
the addition Is ready. As only
boys take the Ag. course, the
girls won't have to walk out to
the barn in snowy or wet weather.
