Seaforth Ready for Vote on
Four Questions May 11th
Seatbrth voter's will go to the
polls next Wednesday, May llth,
in the first vote here in over 45
years on the question of govern-
ment licensed sale of beer and li-
quor.
The proclamation states that
the vote is in pursuance 02 a by-
, law passed by the municipal conn-
ei] of the Town of Seaforth. Vat-
ing will be from 8 a,m, until 7 p,
m,, daylight saving time, at
Teens garage, the public library
and M. E, Clarke's garage.
The following officials will be
in charge of the polls for the vote
on the liquor ballots next Wednes-

There will be four separate bal-
lots 'presented to the voters.
Work Starts At
New Grieve's Bridge
Grading has started on the ap-
proaches to the new bridge on the
county road two miles and a half
north of Seaforth over the Mait-
land river. The work is being
done by the County of Huron
highways department. Steel pil-
ings for the bridge -foundation are
at the site. As mentioned last
month, strong artesian wells were
found a few feet below the sur-
face, making a unique type of
support necessary for the bridge.
Chain Saw
Recovered by Police
A chain saw belonging to Joe
Burns of Seaforth, which dlsap-
peared from his home in Febru-
ary, was recovered this week near
Blyth, by local police. It was lo-
cated by Provincial police look-
ing for other stolen goods. The
case will come up in court on
Thursday.
0.E„S. ACTIVITIES
On Thursday night April 28th
the Seaforth Chapter of the Order
of the Eastern Star celebrated its
14th birthday with a good attend-
ance of members and their
friends. A pot luck supper was
enjoyed by all followed by several
games of euchre bingo. Prizes
were given ,for the two people sit-
ting on the lucky chairs and these
were won by Miss Janette Wilson
and Mr, J. W. MoDowel . Later a
draw was made on three articles
donated by two of the members
and the lucky winners were Mrs.
CIiff Broadfoot, -lir. M. E. Clarke
and Mrs, Dolena McCuaig,
On Saturday afternoon a suc-
cessful bake sale and novelty ta-
ble was held in the showroom of
Mr. M. E. Clarke's garage. The
Chapter wishes to thank everyone
who patronized these two events.

Hydro Poles Vanish
From, Storage Yard
Three hydro poles are missing
from the Seaforth P,U,C. storage
•yard on South Alain Street, Die-
eovery that the poles were gone
was made on Saturday by Mana-
ger R. J, Boussey, who noticed
that the pile of poles was scatter-
ed. As the poles weigh upwards
of 400 pounds each, it is presum-
ed they were not carried away by
children,
Race Meet Here
This Fall ?
At a well attended meeting of
members of the Seaforth Turf
Club in the town hall on Tuesday
evening it was decided to pur-
chase equipment for maintaining
the race track. A float and new
type'drag harrow were decided on,
and the club is looking for a used
tractor.
Possibility of a small race meet
this fall was mentioned if the
track can be reconditioned in
time. It is ]coped to raise the
track level two feet, with a sand
and clay base and gravel top.
It is a. number of years since
the club held a race meet at Sea -
forth. At present there are, 57
members, Officers are: Amos Cor-

comical song entitled "Sitting in
the back Seat" was given by eight
girls, Gail McBride as driver of

saxaphone and clarinet duet was

The April meeting of the Hap-
py Workers Club took the form of
a housewarming, when 13 mem-
bers of the club and one visitor
gathered for an enjoyable after-
noon on April 14 at Mr. and Mrs,
William Holland's new house on
RCAF Road, The house has been
rented and occupied the latter
part of April. Roll call was answ-
ered by donation of useful articles
for a baby's layette. Secretary and
Treasurer's reports were read. De-
cision was made to donate $5 to
the Cancer Society, Several arti-
cles of flannelette, two aprons, 2
pairs of children's mitts, and one
pair of socks were handed in. A
thankyou note from Mrs, Hoorno-
ert was read. Little Marlene Dale
drew the lucky ticket, which was
held by Mrs, Ken Johnston,
There will be films from the
Cancer Society shown at the next
meeting which is to be held at
Mrs, Hugh Ball's on the evening
of May 12. Roll call will be an ex-
change of plants or flower slips,
