H. S. Addition
At a special meeting on Friday
evening Seaforth town council ap-
proved an application of the Sea -
forth District High School board
to build an addition to the pres-
ent buildings at an estimated
coat of $180,000.
All members wore present, Ma-
yor B, F. Christie presiding.
The estimated cost of the addi-
tion is, building $140,000; heating
changeover $10,000; debenture
sale $0000; sewage $2000; archi-
tects $9500; equipment for five
rooms $10,000; legal fees $500;
landscaping and uuforseon con-
tingencies $3,000, Total $180,000.
Frank Sills, chairman of the
board, and John Cardno, the
town's representative on the
board, appeared as a delegation,
Mayor Christie explained this
was the second application by the
board, the first one in the fall
having been for $85,000 for the
addition.
The board members explained
the need for a new lunch room,
the board does not intend to op-
erate a cafeteria.
They said'the architects Kyles
and Kyles had suggested that the
shooting gallery, at present in the
attic, could be located in the
basement under the new lunch
room. This will make an ideal
range.
Reeve William BalI asked how
the costs are apportioned among
the eight municipalities thatform
the high school board. The costs
are divided up according to assess-
ment. McKillop, Tuckersmith and
Seafortli have the largest asses-
sments.
The heating plant in the older
portion of the buildings is com-
pletely- done, and the heating
equipment in the part built a few
pears ago, will be enlarged to
heat all the buildings.
Plans for the addition showed
it would be built south of the
present buildings. It was designed
so that sometime in the future
when necessary the older portion
north of the auditomiuni could be
rebuilt. The section on the north
side was built 20 years ago, it
was said.
Council .passed a motion agree.
ing to the addition requested by
the high school board, subject to
approval by the Municipal Board.
Other business before council
was granting permission to Gary
Kelly of Stratford to construct a
bowling alley at the corner of
Market and Jarvis Streets.
