warden of 5'Iuron c unty on Tues-
day, polling 21 votes. Runner up
was Reeve Harvey Coleman 'of
Stanley', 9 votes, and Reeve Wil-
liam Morritt, of Blyth, 5 votes.
West Wawanosh has had two

1574 and in 1947.

Recently incorporated as a vil-
lage, Zurich had their first repre-
sentative at Huron County Coun-
cil. Reeve Lloyd .O'Brien was one
of nine new reeves welcomed at
the inaugural session. Others in-
cluded Morgan Agnew, deputy
reeve of Clinton; James Bissett,
deputy reeve of Goderieh; Clifford
Dunbar, reeve of Grey township;
Glen Fisher, deputy reeve of Ex-
eter; Karl Haberer, deputy reeve
of Hay; Thomas Leiper, reeve of
Ilullett; Alvin Rau, deputy reeve
of Stanley and Andrew Ritchie,
reeve of Ashfield. Number of He-
ron county eouneillors now stands
at 33.
The following appointments

The Seaforth Chamberof Com-
. merce will hold a general 'meeting
on Friday evening at 8 p.m in the
town hall. There are several is-
sues to be discussed and plans for
the annual dinnerr meeting usual-
ly held in 'February wild be form-
ulated. The executive extend an
'invitation to all members to at-
tend this meeting. .

The January meeting of the
'Seaforth Home and School Associ-
ation was held in the school audi-
torium on Jan. 19 with Mrs. W.
Hodgert presiding. The meeting
opened with singing "0 Canada"
and repeating the L'ord's Prayer
in unison. Mrs, J. B. Russell pre=
serried Mrs. E. Boswell and Mr. J.
Talbot with awards of .merit for
their contribution to the work of
the Red Cross Society. The parent
of the month award was won by
Mrs. -W. Ball and .Mies Elder's
class won. the attendance award.
•Mrs..F. Mingle -Tared with two
solos"'Mary of An•.gyle" and "Beau-
tiful Dreamer". The guest .speak-
er, Mr. F. Peel was introd`wced by
Mrs. A, McLean and thanked by
bir. D. Williams. Mr. Peel spoke
on his recent trip to Russia and
showed pictures he .had taken
there. It was most interesting and
informative. The meeting closed
by singing Liedsavethe Queen. .

Mr. Elmore Lerone of town re-
_-eelved word on Tuesday morning
of the passing away in Toronto of
his •brother Morris Larone at the
age of 44 years.

MRS, PRAANIZ MCOUTCTIDON
The death occurred in Brussels
on Tuesday .morning, Jan. 19th. of
Gwen Hugill,, beloved wife of Mr.
Frank McCuteheon, in her 98th
year, Mrs, Mceutoheon on Jan.
12th underwent an operation in
Stratford Hospital.
A daughter of Mr, and Mrs•
Josephs Ilugill of Seaforth, she
was born on the Ilullett McKillop
boundary. Ten years ago she was
married to Mr. McCnutcheon and
had since lived at Brussels.
Besides her husband she leaves
one daughter, Cheryl 6, and one
son Blaine 3. Also her .parents.
and two sinters, Joyce, Mrs. Geo.
Miller, and Karen Hugill of Sea -
forth, and one brother, Laverne
Hugill, of McKillop.
The funeral will take place
from the Rann funeral home, in
Brussels, on Friday, Jan. 22. Rev.
M2. Brown of Brussels will offici-
ate; assisted by Rev, D. Glenn•
Campbell of Hamilton. Burial will
be in Brussels Cemetery:

First Presbyterian
Annual. Meeting
The 1960 annual congregational
meeting o•f First Presbyterian
Church was held on Monday ev-
ening following a well attended
pot luck supper in the church hall,
In spite of very inclement wea-
ther approximately 76 persons en-
joyed a supper supervised, by Miss
Jean Scott.
At about 8,15 pan. Rev, Ma. El-
der opened the meeting. Mueieal
numbers were enjoyed' in solos by
Misses Darlene Sills and Meta
Reeves, with Mrs. John McGregor
at the piano and aceordian duet
numbers by Misses Grace and
Gloria Beuerman.
John Cardno was appointed
chairman for the 'meeting and F.
E. Willis secretary.
The kirk session report' was

session. The dhairman guided pe-
rusal of the reports. Following a
'discussion which pointed up a
successful 1959 for all organiza-
tions, the reports were unanim-
ously adopted on motion of T. W,
McMillan and Clare Reith,
Norman Ranson was appointed
to the board of managers for a
one year term to fill the vacancy
.caused by the move of Robt, M.
Wright to New Dundee. Four
members eleoted to serve a three
year term were W. R. Smith, F. R,
Oosford, A. Y. McLean and F. A.
Kling..
J. E. Patterson and R. S. Mc-
Donald were appointed auditors.
Rabt. Smith, M. McKellar and
John Beattie will continue as
trustees. J. K. Willis was re -a4) -
pointed treasurer.
M. McKellar explained that the
Synod Corporation Fund .was to
be established for the use of
churches requiring assistance
where money may be borrowed
without interest. First Church,
Seaforth was expected to assist in
flits project by a payment of $1
per member per gear for two
yeare. Payment will be made as
soon as possible and an individu-
al member collection will be made
at a later date.
The budget allocation of $4,222.-
'50
4,220:'50 was unanimously approved.
A special Sunday collection will
be made for the Deaconess Hume
allocation of $1100, as, $360 is re-
quired to 'complete the allocation
in 1960.
•A $100 increase in salary was
voted to Mr. Kempster•, choir lea-
der and organist.
A $50 'bonus was voted to Mrs.
Keith .Sharpe, envelope secretary,
in appreciation of her faithful
services.
M. McKellar, speaking for the
congregation and on behalf of
the session, paid tribute to Rep.
D. Leslie Elder and the successful
year for First •Ohurch and an in-
crease in stipend was unanimous-
ly approved.
Mr. Alex. MacDonald was con-
gratulated on his position as the
church officer and salary arrange-
ments will be made by the board
of managers.
Rev. Mr. Elder in closing point-
ed out that there were great
things to be done and that with
Co-operation and fellowship, First
Church would go forward to an-
other successful Tear. •
WILLING WORKERS Jt 11 CLUB
The eighth and last meeting of
the Seaforth Willing Workers was
Jan. 16, 1960, at the home of Em-
ily Dlliott. The meeting was open-
ed with "God save the Queen" and
then the minutes were read. We
learned from our leaders, Mrs. G.
IMoKenzie and Mrs. G. Elliott, that
we .must have our record .books
and clothes closet accessories in
by Jan. 24th to go to Clinton to be
ready for achievement day.
Few notes were taken this

try of St, Thomas Church was
held on Monday, in the pariah
hall, The weather was unkind,
being stormy with a heavy fall 05

The danger of rabies in the
community is still with us. Hr. J.
C. MacLennan, Health of Animals
Branch, Seaforth, this week re-
leased the following infermation

During the past six months
there 'has been only one continued
examined in that ,t{me. however
foxes are reported to be appearing
again,. Several foxes have been
seen recently.
It is said that foxes and skunks
are closely associated, as they live
in the same dens. The skunks
move into the fox dens and they
budget.,seem to get along amicably,
Mr, Gordn Wright as rector's Dr. MacLennan said that a very

A surprise of over 40 friends
and relatives gathered at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Mo-
Clinohey, Varna, on Friday even-
ing, Jan. 15, to celebrate the occa-
sion of their 30th wedding enni-
-versary..Mr. and Mrs. MoClinchey
.were presented with a boutonniere
and corsage by 'their nephew,
Master Ivan .Steckle and Master
Sim Kyle. The early cart of the
evening was spent in playing pro-
gressive euchre, following which
a delightful lunch was served In-
cluding anniversary cake. The

of a Kroehler platfenm rocker and

A few members of the Kippen
United Church Friendship Group
met at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert McGregor last Wednesday
night. The evening was spent in
games and cards, the prizes going
to ladies: Mrs. R. Broadfoot, Mas,
John Anderson, Men, Mr. Norman
Dickert, Mr. Herb Jones. A lunch
was served and everyone enjoyed
a pleasant evening.
Thrifty Kippe,iettes
The seventh meeting of the
Thrifty Kipoenettes was held at
the home of Mrs. R. Chapman on
Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. The meeting op-
ened by repeating the 4-11 .pledge.
The roll call was auswered by 14
members and the minutes of last
meeting were read and adopted.
It was planned that the next meet-
ing will take place on •Tan. 20th
at the home of Mrs, A. McGregor.
The .president welcomed Miss Till-
man who attended this meeting. A
skit was discussed which is to be

Tillman spoke on curtains for

The January meeting of the Mc-
Killop Group was held at the
.home of '.Mrs. N. Schade on Wed-
nesday evening Jan. 13 with 13
ladies present. Mrs. R. Barrows
Presided, opening the .meeting
with a reading on the New Year,
and hymn 571 "Standing at the
Portal". Prayer was offered by
Mrs. Borrows after which the
scripture lesson was read by Mrs.
Stewart McCall from Matt. 20: 1-
16. During the business .period it
was decided to bring used Christ-
mas cards to the next .meeting.
The annual meeting is .planned
far Tuesday Jan. 26 at 8 p,nt.
Lunch will 10 served 'following the
.meeting. The east side to bring
squares and the west side, sand-

clean up after the meeting. Mrs.
Jack Bosman gave the topic "Salt
of the Earth", Mos. Barrows dos-
ed the meeting with prayer. A de-
licious lunch was Served by Mrs.

Mins. N. Ballade.

Annual Meeting of
Cromarty Church
The annual congregational meet-
ing of Cromarty Church was held
on Thursday with a good attend-
ance of members. The meeting
was opened with scripture reading
and prayer by the minister, Rev.
S. Herr, who was also appointed
to the chair to conduct the busi-
ness. The Church Secretary, Lloyd
Miller acted as secretary and read
the minutes of last annual meet-
ing. The treasurer, Mr. T. Laing
gave his annual report which
showed a substantial balance. In
the absence through illness of lair.
E. Templeman, who is elerk of
session, the session report was
read by Mr, T. L. Scott. Mr. Eldon
Allen gave the auditor's report
and the trusteee' report by Mr. A.
.1llaLachlan. Reports were given
by the various secretaries all of
which showed satisfactory pro-

The January meeting of the
Cromarty Ladies' Aid was Held at
the hone of Mrs. Will Miller on
Saturday evening with the presi-
dent airs, Miller presiding. Devo-
tions were led by Mrs. R. Laing
and Mrs. M. Dow. The roll .call
was answered by paying fees. Re-
ports were given by the secretary
and the treasurer and many items
of business were dealt with. The
ladies accepted a request to cater
for a golden wedding in March.
It was also decided to hold a
bake sale in the near future. Sev-
eral "thankyou" letters from the
shutins who received .treats at
Christmas were read,by the sec-
retary. This being the annual

pointed to take the chair for the
