The 'commdasuonhad increased the
size of Primary lines around town
to No 6 aluminium instead of
crimper, without much 4nterrup.
Mian, The copper'is overloaded and
the a aluminum lines will result in
steadier voltage. Several new
street lights had been added and,
a survey ata's been made of 'Main
and North Main streets and it de
hoped. to have improved lighting,
A new water main had been put
down on Franklin street and a
-Fire hydrant placed near the high
aeheol. Eleven new water ser-
vices were added during the year
and the town is pumping 156000
'gallons of water daily. The water
load been tested by the OWRO and
also by the County Health Unit,
both giving our water Grade- A
rating. New water rates next
.year will beused to finance fu-
ture extensions and replacing
some of the smaller pipe. Tote fi-
nancial position of the PUC Is
very good, he said.
Dr. P. L. Brady, •chairman of
the finance ,committee of council,
said some things had been sacra -
faced In 1969, including pensions
for police and town employees,
but he hoped this could be started
newt year. 578,000 tax money had
been collected by Oct, 31st, more
than 50 per cent of the total on
the soli. Council has stayed evd-
thin the budget, he said, a meat
on the sewer extension on West
William street width is being oar -
Tied as a deficit and it as hoped
will eventually be taken ever by
tate .OWI1C. The total actual de-
benture debt of the town is $360,-
936, he said. The town's shale of
the $124,000 high school debenture
is $22,000. In 1960 we will be .fat—
ed 'with another debenture for a
High eohoal addition, which will
raise our ,total 'debenture debt to
over 25 per cent of the town's' to-
tal assessment. He 'foresaw future
trouble for 'town fmnaneing as a
result. Council will have to hold
the line, lie said. Tax arrears are
$32,564, nteet-of which is'oolleot-
dble.
Councillor Scott Habkirk, the
chatrman of streets committee,
said they had tiled to out down
expenditures on streets and eon-
sequently some were not up to
standard. lie hoped at the end of
the year to be about $200 below
the $21,000 budget. To date 51.7,-

ance 41676; new et'reets $4484. A
new street had been built on W,
William St.
Dr. John Tu;Tnbulj chairman of
the sewerage .00m:mittee, said the
sewer situation is at a stalemate
as the 0 -WRC seeme reluctant fox
the town to undertake a partial
sewer projeet, as they want a
larger work. The MuniOiOin.1
Board, ion the other hand, refuses
to allow the town to fin'aaoe the
larger. We know we need sewers
and we also know we :cannot go
into it on. a lave scale, Dr. Turn-
bull said. It is hoped to reach a
conclusion in a few months.
'Councillor Thorpe Rivers, the
and water committee chairman,
said .council "took away our mon,
ey, so there 'woe mot much we
could do.' Reporting 'far the
property committee, he told of the
atone repairs. Mr. Rivers said
he had wanted to withdraw this
yearn from council but would not
oauee another nomination.
Counoiibor Nelson Cardno said
be had learned a lot about the
eperation of council during his
first year, and could Deanne may -
one they would find it most inter-
esting. Hie was disappointed at
the 'small turnout of ratepayers
et the nomination meeting. As
