WHAT IS "REVOCATION"?
The following information 18
supplied 'by, Mo. J. E. Huckins of
Goderich, cliiairman of the Huron
Citizens Legal Control •Committee.
"Revocation' isn't one -of' the
most common words in the Eng-
lish language but it is certainly
going to become better known in
Huron and Perth counties before
November 30. -
This is the legal term used to
describe repeal of the Canada
Temperance Act.
When the electors of the two
counties votes. .to adopt the CTA
before bbe first w'or'ld war they
were actually voting to bring
Part II of the Aot into force
(Part I is the machinery used to
bring on and conduct the vote
and Part II is the Canada Tem-
perance Aot itself, as we now
have it in the two counties).
Now the issue before the elect-
ors' is what the lawyers would
call 'revocation of Part II of .the
CTA" but this means e4actly the
same as "repeal", a much more
popular 'word.
The ballot to used on Monday,
November 30 has on it two spaces
on one of which the voter should
place a plain X with the black
lead pencil Provided in the vot-
ing booth.
In the top space smear the
words "FOR TiHN REVOCATION"
and an X in, this space indicates
the voter's desire to repeal the
CTA and bring in the • Ontario
Liquior Control Aot. An X in the
bottom space indicates the vot-
er's- preference for the CTA.
Huron and Perth are the Last
two counties in .Ontario that are
still under the CTA. A total of 30
counties and three entries have
voted it out, most of them by
large majorities. The most recent
votes were .in the District of
