Parking meters. It was claimed
that the meters earned their
keep even when the street is

Mayor Christie said each met=
el' will earn an estimated $59 a
year, or $6,000 for 100 meters.
Meters cost 1$98 for one head or
$148 for double. heads.
It was said people get used to
pushing nickels into them after
a month and stop 'growling.
Council recalled the attempt
six years ago to' introduce .met-
ers in Seaforth, when council
were compelled by adverse public
'opinion to •wttlltiraw the bylaw,
so the time are passing the mat-
ter on to the Chamber of Com-
merce. It was neportecl that up
to now merchants have voiced
no objections.

Council !heard a report on re-
pairs to the arena. 'It looked as
15 .the estimates added up to
$7,700. Mayor Christie complain-
ed he had not been - notified when
the builder was here to inspect
the arena last month. He asked
that the report be held over until
the meeting next week.
Councillor Baldwin reported a.
bid of $1,000 for the old water-
works house and extra lot. The
town had not bought a truck
Offers from two local firms were
nearly the same.
The committee will sea if a
good. used truck is available. In
the meantime the council will
retain the town horse.
Mr. Baldwin said John .Cum-
mings had given notice he was
no longer able to look •after the
weigh scales. Town officials have
been able to operate the scales
for the present.
It was suggested the town
make a small charge for use of
the meeting rooms in the town
hall, perhaps $2 In summer, $4
in winter. It was reported the
Farmers 0o -op meet In the town
hall nearly every week. The
rooms have to be swept and
cleaned after use.

SELLS HORSE IN N.S.
Gordon Pullman has sold a
:handsome four-year-old horse to
Dr. H. J. MacDonald, of 'Baddeck,
Nova Scotia. The horse .is being
shipped this week by raid to
North Sydney, Cape Breton Is-
land. Gordon raised and trained
the horse, named "Uno."

eoitll Beef Calf Club was held at
the home, of leader Ken Camp-
bell May 6, Dan Rose, ,summer

points to consider in judging cat-
tle. Club members judged a class
of (Hereford steers and gave rea-
sons. 14 members answered roll
call, minutes were read by Don-
ald MoKercher.
MRS. JANE KNOX
The death occurred • at the
home of her daughter, 234 Manor
Road E., Toronto, on Sunday,
May 10th. of •Jane MacGeegor,
wife of the late George Knox. A.
resident of Hullett township
most et her Wife, Mrs. Knox 'had
been spending the winters in To-
ronto for the pact 17 years, and
had visited members of her Ba-
mily in this •district during the
summer. She was in her 85th
year. After the death of her hus-
band 44 years ago she carried on
the •farm at Harlock corner for
many years with the help of her
sons.
Surviving awe ,three daughters,
Evelyn, Mrs. T. Appleby, McKie-
lop; Mary, Mrs, Lorne Marshall,
Toronto; Olive, Mrs. Graydon
Neal, Clinton;, and two sons,
Ward and Ernest of Iiullett.
There are nine gandehildren
and four great grandchildren,
also one sister, Mrs. Charles
Sproule of Winnipeg.
Service was held In the ehapel
at the Murray E. 1Newbigging fu -
oral home, 733 Mt. Pleasant Rd.,
Toronto en Monday evening,
then to Ball' and Mutoh 'ftmeral
home, Clinton, where funeral ser-
vice was held Wednesday at 2.30
p.m. 'Interment was in Burns'
cemetery, Londesboro.
CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE
The -regular meeting of • the
Catholic Women's League met in
the school room Tuesday even-
ing with a good attendance. The
president, Mrs. John: Maloney,
opened the meeting. The minutes
were read by secretary, Mrs. Ger-
ald Bannon. Rev. Fr. Sullivan
attended _and spoke briefly.

Rev. 3. 88. James, rector of St.
Thomas' Chareli, Seaforth, since
August 1, 1653, announced et the

Woods, London. Mr, James will

mas' parish, Owen. Sound, for
four Years,

JOHN H. SCOTT
Ma'. John H. Scott died in St.
Michael's Hospital, Toronto, 011
Saturday, May Stir, He had been
in hospital about three weeks.
Mr. Scott was a native of Hallett,
eon .05 Robert Scott and Annie
McMillan Scott. He farmed until
retiring to Seaforth in 1930 and
'conducted a coal business, For
the past 2/ years he had lived
with his daughter in Toronto.'
Mr, Scott was 86. In 1900 11.0 was
married to Annie 0. Bewley who
predeceased him Jan. 31; 1950.
He was a member of First Pres-
byterian Church and served on
Seaforth town council in the '30's
and was also Reeve of Seaforth
for several years. Mr. Scott was
a frequent contributor to the
local press on current topics, of-
ten in sprightly verse. He is
survived by 'three daughters and
two sons: Beulah, Mrs. Brennan,
Barrie; Violet, Mrs, W. C..Cough-
lin, Toronto-; Grace, Mrs. Pater-
son, (Brampton; Walter and Wdl-
'fred, leullett. A sister and bro-
ther predeceased him a few year's
ago. The funeral took place on
Tuesday afternoon from the Box
funeral home, conducted by Rev,
D, L. Elder and burial was in
Maitlandbank cemetery.

Mrs: W..H. Golding. , wife of
Senator Golding passed away
Wednesday, May 6, at the Muir
Nursing Home at 11.45 p,m. Mrs.
Gelding. was the :former . Alena
Elizabeth Kenchen, daughter of
the date Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Kenchen of Kilsyth, Grey county.
Mr. and Mrs. Golding were mar-
ried in Owen Sound on January
28, 1913. She -was born in Kil-
syth on July 13, 1884. She had
a college and oomlmereial educa-
tion and came to Seaforth 111
1909 as !bookkeeper for the
Southgate Clothing Company and
later the Taylor -Anderson Cloth-
ing Company. She was active as
a member of the Methodist
Church, as a Sunday School
teaoher, violinist in the Sunday
School orchestra and member of
the Church 'Mole until church
union in 1925. !Since that time
she had been a member of North
Side United Church. Survivors
are her husband, .two sons: Ar-
thur, teacher in Technical
School, London; Frank, F/O,
R.C.A.F., Lachine, Que.; three
daughters: Evelyn, Mrs. Dr.
Perrett, " Vancouver; Dorothy,
wife of Lt. Commander James
Mark. R.C.N., Dartmouth, N.S.,
and Marjorie, Mrs, Ross Mont-
gomery, Seaforth; fourteen
grandchildren; three brothers:
Percy and Lloyd, Owen, Sound
and George of Hamilton; a slater
Mrs. Norman Teck, Saginaw,
Mich. The funeral service was.
held at the Whitney Funeral
Home, ISaturalay afternoon and
burial was at Skaffa Cemetery.

chose a floor length gown of im-
ported Italian silk. The souiptur-
ed bodice featured long lily point
sheath sleeves. A wide scoop
neckline embroidered with Alen
con lace dotted with seed pearls,
a softly pleated bouffant skirt,
with appliques of Alenoon lace,
swept to an aisle wide train.
A lace cap ,trimmed with seed
pearls and drop :pearls held a
French illusion veil. The bride
carried a white prayer book with
mauve orchid and white stream-
ers. Miss Loretto Barry, R.N., of
Detroit, Mich., as maid ,of honor,
and Miss Elizabeth- O'Leary, of
London, sister of the bridegroom,
as bridesmaid wore identical
gowns of 'mauve Swiss dotted
organdy with scoop neckline,
:three quarter length sleeves and
harem hemline. Large white pic-
ture hats with matching access-
ories, carried nosegays of yellow
and white carnations.
Gerald O'Leary, brother of the
bridegroom, and Joseph Barry,
cousin of the bride, were the
groom's altteedbnts. Jamie Ni-
chols, nephew of the bridegroom,
as ring bearer carried a white
satin cushion .and Maureen O'-
Leary, niece of the bridegroom,
as flower gird dressed in white
nylon and head dress of yellow
carnations, carried a tiny basket

Following :the ceremony the
wedding dinner and reception
were held at Ai••matrong's, Exe-
ter. The bride's table was decor-
ated with spring flowers and
centred by, three tier wedding
cake. Receiving the guests, the
bride's mother wore .a rose . lace
sheath dress with rose cluster,
white accessories, a corsage of
willies roses. The brlidegr'oom's
mother chose a pink lace dress
with white accessories and cor-
sage of red roses, For travelling
to Montreal and Quebec the bride
chose a' mint_ green flowered
sheath: dress eetth matching ("Mo-

their return Mr. ane Mrs. John
O'Leary will reside in London.

their regular meeting.

bytery at James' St. United
Church, Exeter, as a member of
the Colleges and Students coo-
mittee of Presbytery, for ,the pur-
pose of receiving Mr. William
George Pollen as a candidate for
the ministry of the United

served as Pentecost Sunday with
special emphasis on the place of
Pentecost in the total mission of
the church.
