Re Dog Proclamation
In view of the disregard by the general
public of the recent proclamation
issued by the Town Council re the
confinement of dogs, and the fact that
they are not to run at large at any
time, the Council feels that charges
must be laid under this By-law.
Any owner or harborer of a dog who
allows it to rim at large can be sum-
moned into court. The fine in a case of
this kind could be $50.00 and costs.
The Council and myself would ask all
citizens concerned to comply with the
laws and avoid the consequences.

Hogshave hit the ;headlines
again, Two interesting' a'nn'oun-
cement's by the Federal Minister
of Agriculture recently are most
Interesting, ,
First, Mr, Harkness is reported
to have announced that the floor
price for, hogs will continue for
six month's at 225 in Ontario and
then be reduced to $23. I don't
ltnow how much the 'producers
are concerned with this support
price but the thing that intrigues
me is the feet that •hag producers
have received six months notice
of the price reduction. 'A year
ago the support price on fowl dis-
appeared over night without any
headlines 'and the poultry poduc•
er had no warning to get out
from under. I :have n0 'objection'
to the Government warning in
case of hogs, in :fact, a think it is
only reasonable that producers
should receive s00110 warning, but
I really think that tbe hog Pro-
ducers can thank the strength of
their organization tor this consi-
deration, Also this should indic-
ate to the poultry producers the
need for an equally strong Poul-
try ,Producers organization,
Second, the Federal Minister
has been reported -to have 'an-
nounced that the hog price will
be supported oxg a deficiency pay-
ment 'basis to the farmer only,.
That is, the price will find its
own level -on the open market
and :the. government will then,
make up the difference between
that price and, the support price.
The important point is that this
will be paid 'only to independentI
farmers and will not be paid to
companies operating on a verti-
cally integrated basis. This has
been heartily approved by west-
ern farmers where vertical inte-
ents, Mr. and Mrs: Roy Mcd3ride, gration is threatening to take •ov-
er the hog industry just as it has
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stanley and c the 'broiler industry in 'Ontario.

THE PRICE OF
GOOD LIVING
CANADIANS are still enjoying the world's second
highest standard of living.
They can do this because of the contribution.
of manufacturing to our national progress and
prosperity.
Perhaps Canadians can buy some things cheaper'
elsewhere than in Canada. But if they are not willing
to pay Canadian prices for Canadian products, our
Own workers will not for long be able to receive
Canadian wages. Nor will. Canadian governments
receive the tax revenues they require to sustain
Canada's welfare programmes.
There is a price to pay for everything, including
the Canadian standard of living.
