25th year as maid courier on R.
R, 2, , Kippen, 25tr, Long who
serves 78 boxliolders on his route
drives a distance of 24x%4 miles a
clay and has .driven 193,125 miles
in the 25 ;years of service and
stated that this winter was the
worst one in .26 years with only
one-way traffic and snowdt'ifte
15 feet high. In recalling his ex-
periences he said lie had had to.
crawl on his hands and knees to
the mail boxes and had to ~vine
the snow off the boxes. 4u order

he has driven the hone through

record as never being late on the
mail route, ile also carried tate

the Post Office at Kippen for 21
years (before the changeover. In
his 75th year, Mr. Long was born
in Owen Sound and came to Kip -
pen from Windsor 25 years ago,
Married, he has two daughters,
Mrs, Alvin Uloh, Nisindsor; Mrs,
Ed Little, Slensall; one 0011 Ar-
thur of St, Catharines, 2 grand-
daughters, .Marcia and 'Cheryl

Mrs. Andrew Patrick, 83, pas-
sed away suddenly Wednesday
morning at her apartment on
Market ,Street, She was the term-
er Margaret Jane Barbour of
.Staffa, 'She lived in McKillop patt-
er her marriage. Mr. Patrick pre-
deceased her .24 years ago last
October. About 'five .years ago
Mrs, Patrick ,moved to Seaforth.
She is survived by .one son, Roy,
of McMillen. and two grandchild-
ren, Andrew and Jean Patrick.
Also two brothers and two siet-
ers, John Barbour, London; Jas.
•Barbour, Staffa; Mrs. Ernest
Ddnnin, ;Seaforth, and Mrs. Alice
Coward; Beamsville.
The funeral will take place
from the G. A. Whitney funeral
home, •Goderlch St, West, on Sat-
urday, March 28th at 2 p.m. Rev
D. L. Elder will officiate. Inter-
ment will be 1n Staffs cemetery.

AFTERNOON AUXILIARY
The Easter thankoffering of
the Afternoon Auxiliary of First
Presbyterian .church was held in
the church hall an Tuesday aft-
ernoon with members present
from the Barbara Kirkman Aux-
iliary and the McKillop Affiliat-
ed Group,. The president, Mrs. J.
Bell, presided and welcomed the
guests. Mrs. D. L. 'Elder had
charge of the devotions and
spoke en "The Glory of the Gos-
pel of the Resurrection". Mrs. J.
W. Thompson, Ilterature .secre-
tary, gave a short book review..
The *tiering was received by
Mrs. J. McGregor and Mrs, H.
,Scott, and Mrs. E. Butt sang a
solo entitled "Morning, Noon and
N'i'ght", accompanied by Mrs, Mc-
Gregor. Life Membership certifi-
cates were .presented to Mrs. J3
McLachlan, Mies Ina Gray, Mrs.
W. D. Smith and Miss Marion
Gray. The guest speaker, Miss
Jennie Hogg, in ter "helpful mes-
sage reminded us shat Easter Is
a particularly. suitable time for
the gtiving of thanks. She men-
tioned ur•evenyday blessings, too
many of which In this busy world
we take for granted and neglect
through our thoughtlessness to
return thanks- for them. The
speaker was thanked by Mrs. W.
SThompson. A social hour .fol-
lowed when lunch ;was served by
Mrs. W. Drayer and her commit-
tee.

HAPPY WORKERS OLUB
The March meeting of the Hap-
py Workers Club was held in the
afternoon of Maroh 12, at the
home of 'Mrs, C1858 Glazier. Roll
call was answered by a "Good
Houneeleaming kllinit". The Selo,
report was read, Mrs. Elmer and
Mrs. Elgin Dale, gave recipe and
knit socks, which were knit by
Mrs. Edwin Ball of Clinton were
brought to the meeting. Sewing
was brought in of aprons and ba-
by layettes. A thankyou note was
read from Mr, 'and Mrs. 0arno-
0han, of Dgmondville, for quilts,
etc 'given to them from the club.
A quilt was partly quilted. Mar-
ilyn Holland drew the lucky tic-
ket, which was won by illus. AI-
bert Glazier. Lunch was served
by the hostess assisted ltiv Mrs.
Elgin and Eimer Dale.

The Teen Town was held 11.1
the arena 'Saturday night with
about 150 teenagers in attend-
ance. Music was supplied by act-
ing disc jockey, Gary Williams.
We would like to thank the two
.couples Mr, and Mrs. Art Wright
and Mr. and Mrs. Schneider who
were chaperone for the dance on
Saturday night.
There will be adance on Sat-
urday night at the arena com-
mencing at 8 pan.
We are planning to have a
semi formal dance April 4. The

dent, Mrs. Jim Clark opened the

from 1st Cor. 2: 1-8. Comanente
on same were given by the lead-
er. Prayer was offered by Mrs.
Fern Patterson, also an Easter
PreYer of Poetry by Mrs. Clark.

was auswered with "A Miracle
of Jesus". Fines were collected
by Mrs. Geo, Dundas for not an-
swoing the roll call properly.

made a good showing on her

Mitchell On Saturday night.

neighbor, Mrs, T. Aldingtan in
Seaforth on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs, L. Wallace have
taken up residence in the SOre-
dahl house in the village.
The Marfan Ritchie Evening
Auxiliary held their Mareh meet-
ing in the school room of the
church with Mrs. Lloyd Miller
presiding. Hymn 212 was sung
failowed with prayer. Mrs, Frank
Hamilton read the scripture les-
son. The roll call was answered
with an Easter verse by 11. mem-
bers. The secretary read minutes
of last meeting which was fol;
lowed with the 'areasurer's re-
port. Mrs. Robes?t Laing had
charge sof the Study Book and
was :assisted by \irs. G. Scott
and Mrs. D. Scott, concluding the
chapter on Canadian Indians.
Mrs. Jos, Miller read a paper on
"Tire Last Supper". The meeting
closed with a hymn and Lord's
Prayer.
The regular meeting of the
YPS was held on Sunday evening
with Mr. .Lloyd iSorsdahl presid-
ing and leading the Bible Study.
Scripture lesson was tread by
Alice Sorsdahl. who also read the
secretary's report. The meeting
closed with the 1Mlzpah Benedic-
tion.

was taken for the Polio March
of Dimes Fund. The topic on
"Thoughts on Easter" was .given
by Mrs. Campbell Wey was fol-
lowed by prayer. After the meet-
ing lunch was served by the la-
dies of the 14th con. East.

of the 17th and Boundary group
of Duff's United Church was
'held at the home of Mrs. Wm,
Coutts with 18 members present.
Mrs. Donald Buchanan presided
over the meeting which opened

Cross", followed 'by prayer. Mrs.
A. Clark read the scripture and'

"The meaning of Easter': Mr's..
H. Craig gave a reading "Spot-
lights on the 'Cross" In the dis-
cussion period it was decided to
serve lunch at the sale of Mrs.
Mark Hamilton. The meeting
.closed with the singing of hrymn.

home of Mrs. Charles Roney for
their March meeting, Mrs. Dal-
ton Malcolm presided and opened
the meeting with the theme
hymn. Mrs. L. Beiges, read the
scripture atter which Mrs.. Mal
colm led to prayer. Two readings
appropriate to Easter were given
by Mrs. Bert Maltaffy and Mrs.
Lorne Aikens. The minutes were
read and the roll call by Mrs. C.
Roney. A quilt was quilted dur-
ing the afternoon, also the ap-
rons for the bazaar were model-
led and Judged; prizes being won
on aprons by Mrs. N. Bushfield,
and Mrs. Laurence Hannon. A
reading by Mrs. Earl Barber
closed the meeting •and lunch
was served by the hostess and

ter Thankoffering on Wed., Apr.

To Build Addition
To County Home
Huron County Council, in a
special session Monday, ratified
a county home committee report
to proceed with the proposed ad-
dition to the county hone at
Clinton, and gave the committee
authorization to advertise for
tenders.
Tenders must be presented to
council at the earliest possible
time. Council gave the go-ahead
decision after two hours deliber-
ation in committee of the whole.
Members were told revisions in
the plans have reduced the cost
of the 177 bed addition by 5171,-
000, Estimated cost of the addi-
tion now has been set at 51,200,-
000. Included in the overall cost
is •slightly more than $1,000,000
for construction, $670,000 for fur-
niahings, $15,000 for laundry
equipment. The addition will pro-
vide 821,000 cubic feet of space
and is about three times the size
of the existing building.
Construction of the last addi-
tion was in 1954.
Reduction in the cost was
brought about as a result of a
meeting in Toronto, Feb. 25511,
when committee members, archi-
tects, and Charles MacNaugltton,.
MPP for Huron, conferred with
department of public welfare of-
ficials. No change was made in
the actual beet accommodation.

APPROVES GRANTS
Huron County Council on Mon-
day gave the county historical
committee approval to proceed
with publication of a book on the
history of Huron County at a
cost of between 47,500 to $10,000,
Professor James Scott, who is
completing the manuscript, has
been worsting on data for the
volume for the past five years.
The book when printed will sell
for $6, with the county receiving
a portion of the money received
front sales.
Some of the printing for the
book will he done in England.
Council was told the outlay for
the book would not cone out of
this year's budget.
Grants totalling over $8000 were
approved at Monday's meeting.
Largest grants approved were
52,500 for the agricultural junior
extension work, 51,000 to the
Wingham and district association
for retarded children, 5500 to 4.1I
club leader work, and $40 each to
32 county libraries. Several Hu-
ron county fairs received in-
creased grants over last year, and
the Winghan and district film
council was given a 5100 grant
for the first time.
