soine modern _ people olaim, but
the pioneer settleats of Huron
'County did not thtnle so. Mr,
Solus Murray of Egmondville got'
reminiscing about the wolves of
Tuckersmith when his father
first settled there as a young lad,
son of 'pioneer parents.
Ma'. Murray's father often told
them about fishing 'in • ,the river
at Hgmondville • when a deer
crashed ,flies the trees on the
other side, waded the a liver and
bounded 'off dn'the bush, ,A mom-
e1t later wolves appeased in pus -
milt but:did not cross the river.
The lad ran to the house and told
his father, who examined the
tricks on the river bank and de-
cided this son owed his Safety to
the fact wolves seldom crossed
water.
Another expenience'his father
used to tell about was going with
a poke .af oxen to the , 'beaver
swamp a few mules east of the
Klippen road for pdeoes of Hine.
Hearing the howling of'approach-
ing wolves',he'started the oxen
and ran them hard for home, ex-
pecting has dog to follow. Next
day he returned to the swamp
and found a fen' halo's—all,Shat
was left of the dog.
