PLEA TO YOUTH
(A recent headline in a Toronto
paper).
Subtitle, "Jean Needs No Li-
quor to Live".
In spite of the+ reporter's rath-
er facetious treatment of Con-
troller Jean Newman's talk to a
youth group, her plea ,was very
forceful and arresting. ,She was
addressing young people who had
gathered ,during ,the 'O1rr4stmaa
holidays to study the alcohol pro-
blem.
"As far as I am concerned,"
She declared, "I have chosen to
be a total .abstainer for the sim-
ple reason that to me life is in-
teresting and exciting and I want
to enjoy it to the full without
1
having any of myperceptive alit -
Ries slightly dulled:
"I have never been ridiculed
,for mvy stand, for alter ubl it is a
personal matter. If you young
people make :the personal deoi-
sion to remain total abstainers,
you will never regret it and you
wild never succumb to an illness
which is very muoh on the in-
crease iu ,Canada and the United
,States—that is alcoholism,"

Little man you've had a busy day
This little spaceman is just back from a trip to Mars (out in
the backyard) . and now his leader is packing him off to bed.
While he was away, she washed the floor ... the dishes
several large piles of clothes .. . and still there was plenty of
hot water for this spaceman's bath. Reason? Because she
has a modern automatic electric water heater with abundant
storage capacity and quick recovery when more hit water is
needed. Heating water electrically is safe, clean, modern and
costs just a few cents a day on special Hydro flat rates.
You get more out of life when you get the most out of
electricity.
