Paterson at Hensall as fol- lows : IIeusall clerk James Paterson resigned yesterday at the re- quest of municipal council. The 67 -year -odd clerk, a veter- an of 30 years service in the municipality said today ",there were no reasons given, except petty ones." Council, which held its inau- gural meeting Monday asked for the clerk's resignation. and re- ceived it. John Henderson, entering his fourth year on council, com- mented afterward that the clerk "has been a very aggressive .mazy' and has from time, to time "ex- ceeded his duty as clerk with some of the motions before coun- cil." "This has been a bone of con- tention for some tine," 'he add- ed. A newcomer to the Hensell council, John. Baker, said the clerk was not fired, he was "ask- ed asked to resign" and chid so. The councillor indicated the cotton was due largely to a clash of personalities which macro munici- pal life somewhat strained. lir addition to Mr. Baker, two other members sof council, 'Mrs. Minnie Noakes and Larne Hay are also beginning their first .terms on council. Me. Henderson. and Mr. Baker denied a rumour that any of the council had resigned or intended to, Mrs. Noakes said the council had "nothing personal" in its ac- tion, and paid tribute to Mr. Pat- erson as a man who "knows his lob„ She said, however, that she and councillor Hay had received complaints from numerous rate- payers about actions of the clerk. and that it appeared the electors wanted a change. Cardiff Faits, Feet in Cast Elston Cardiff, Huron MP, spent the yuletide in hospital fol- lowing a fall from his garage roof in which he fractured both heels three days before Christ- mas. The veteran parliamentarian returned to his home near Brus- sels Sunday morning with casts on both feet. It's doubtful if he'll be able to attend the opening .of parliament on January 15, since his feet may be bound for two months, - He was shovelling snow from the roof of his garage when the ladder slipped and he fell heav- ily.
