a prolific raconteur he really was,
One morning, on returning home,
for breakfast, • from a Matting trip,
he left Itis walking stuck on the floor,
beside the kitchen stove, Breakfast

baud, on looking for his cane, he
found it gone. Puzzled, lie looked till
around the stove, without success.
Upon opening the door, he happened
to spy- his cane, with the :crooked
handle, not lying on the platform
outside, but actually moving! His
cane 'to frozen snake) had suddenly
come to life, due to the heat of the
room. Without consulting his own-
er's wishes, his cane had taken
French leave on its decision to seek
greener pastures.
Upon another occasion. he sought
to persuade his fellow masons that
the sun sometimes "stood still" in
the sky. Tliey laughed most vocifer-
ously with incredulity. We never
learned whether or not he believed
his own story, We faney, however,
he was fully aware of the well-
founded Biblical story of the. "stat

all of his comrades may not.
A somewhat plausible and less ar-

In a rural district where he was

when Sirius, the Dog -Star, was re-
puted to reign supreme, a case of
threatened rabies. had inflamed the
*eneral public. In a house hard by
lived a young couple that recently
had a little tiff over some trivial
natter. The wife, quick to seize on
the exigencies of the moment, de-
cided to teach hubby a lesson. One
afternoon, discovering her husband
was having his customary* bath, she
decided to act quickly. Arranging a
pail full of water, which would up-
set when the bathroom door would
open, site secreted herself beside a
book -case just outside the door. She
didn't wait long. Soon the door open-
ed and hubby. appeared in rather
dishabille attire. As he passed his
crouching spouse, the latter, quickly
stretching out her hand, pinched
him quite smartly on the calf of his
leg. With a loud yell of pain, he
rushed through the front door, cry-
ing, "I'm poisoned! I'mn poisoned!
I've been bitten by a mad dog!
Yes, when you feel a spell of
blues coming on, just call around

of his stories.
