The Toting Peoples Class held a
social evening on Friday night. Cro-
Idnole was played, the winners were
Norma Dexter and Ron. McGregor.
Consolation, Mrs. George Hoggart
and Mens, Bob Phillips. Lunch was
served.
The Friendly Few Farm Forum
met at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Wim. Dale on Alonday evening. The
topi, Farm Women in Public Life,
brought out a good discussion. Pro-
gressive euchre followed, winners
were Ladies' high, .Airs. Verne Dale;
Gent's high, Mr. Frank Riley; con-
solation, Ladies, Mrs. Wm, Jewitt,
Gent's, Mr. Borden Brown. Next

from the hymnary. Prayer was then

"Peace" and offered prayer, Mrs.
G. Smith gave a Clu'istian Steward-
ship reading. Mrs. Robt. Doig and
.Arra, Wm, Alexander gave splendid
reports on the sectional meeting
held at Lcndesboro. Hymn 26 was
sung, Mrs. Glen Haase read the
eeripture lesson. The topic on Ang-
ola was taken by Mrs. W. McSpad-
den Mrs, 7'. Pethick, Mrs, A. Camp -
hell and Mrs. Livingstone. Hymn

Mrs. Dodds was sung and Mrs. D dds closed
the meeting with prayer.

The directors of Seaforth Farmers Co-op take this
opportunity- to express their appreciation to Mr. Droadfoot
for the capable and pleasing planner in which he has con-
ducted this service for the past 31 years.
The Co-op was advised by Mr. 1.3roadfoot of his desire
to be relieved of his duties. Therefore at their November
meeting the board duly appointed their manager to be in
charge of this additional service, and trust this change may
prove satisfactory to the surrounding Livestock Producers.

The W.:II.S, of St. Andrew's Unit-
ed Church were hosts to Hensall
Auxiliary in the church on Wednes-
day afternoon last. About 76 ladies
were present. Airs. T. Ray and Mrs,
W. Caldwell were co -hostesses, The
president, Mrs. Sohn Sinclair, pre-
sided. Mrs. S, Pepper waS in charge
of the worship. Mrs. I. Butt of Sea -
forth favored with a solo accompan-
ied at the piano by Mrs, J. Mac-
Gregor, also of Seaforth, Mrs. R.
Broderick and Mrs. Hahn of Hensall
favored with a vocal duet accomp-
anied at the piano by Mrs, T. Sher-
ritt, The minutes and Roll Call were
taken. Mrs. Alex McMurtrie report-
ed she and Mrs. McLeod had called
on six shutins. Mrs. T. Kay and Mrs.
Wm. Caldwell were asked to be the
visiting committee for November.
Mrs. Harold Jones and Mrs, Pearl
Love favored with a vocal duet.
Mrs. Jones accpmpanying on the
guitar. Mrs, Emerson Kyle then in-
troduced the speaker, who was Mrs.
lRev.) McLeod, who recently moved
to Kippen. Mrs. 1'IcLeod gave a very
interesting address on the Mission-
ary Hospital itt Western Canada.
Mrs. G Hess of Hensall favored
with a solo accompanied by lits, T.
Sherritt. A humorous skit "The
Church Fire" was given by Mrs. Ro-
bert Elgie, Mrs. CarlMcClinehey,
Mrs. J. Cooper Jr., Airs. Morley
Cooper, Mrs. Wm. Caldwell, Mrs.
Robert McGregor and Mrs. Roy Con -
site. Mrs. Winston Workman extend-
ed thanks to all taking part. Mrs.
Sinclair pronounced the benediction.
The ladies were invited to the
Sunday School room where a dainty
lunch was served. The tea table,
covered with lace cloth, was centered
with the large birthday cake, aut-
umn flowers and candles. Tea was
poured from silver tea services by
Mrs. J. W. McLean and Mrs. Wm.
Alexander. Mrs. Robt. McBride cut
the birthday cake.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Taylor and Terry
of Stratford were. Sunday visitors
with Mrs. R. Dinsdale and Miss Ma-
bel Whiteman.
Mr, and Mrs. Cecil Howell and
Miss Dunlop of Sarnia were Sunday
visitors with Mr. and Mrs. N. Long.
Mrs. Kyle of Clinton was a Satur-
day visitor with her son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson
Kyle.
Mr. and Mrs. H. Stanek and Geo.
visited friends in Cromarty on Sun-
day.
We are pleased to report Mr.
Charles Switzer is improving in
health but is still confined to Lin-
don Hospital.
Mr, and Mrs. L. Henderson
visited friends in London on Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. James Burnett and
the latter's grandmother, Mrs. How-
ell, who is in her 93rd year, all of
Toronto, visited on Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. N. Long .
Local men who left on Saturday
for Manitoulin Island to hunt in-
clude Emerson Kyle, Russel Con-
sitt, Elmore Stephenson, Campbell
Eyre, Lloyd McLean, Stanley Jack-
son, Wilbur Scott, Wm. Bell, Her-
man Deyman, Harry Caldwell, Wes
Richardson, Allan Tremeer_, Elzar
Mousseau, Emerson Anderson, Alec
McMurtrie.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Meliis attended
the funeral of the latter's cousin
in Wroxeter on Saturday.
ST. COLUMBAN
James, Hart died hist Thursday at
St. Joseph's Hospital, London. In his
34th year. He lived in 11ScKillop, and
later in Dublin, until he went to
London recently. He is survived by
one brother Owen at St. Columban,
and ane sister Miss Annie Hart, Ing -
moll. The funeral was held Saturday
at St. Columban Church.
VARNA.
Services for George H. Beatty, 54,
of Varna,who died in Scott Memorial
Hospital, Seaforth, were conducted at
Clinton itt Ball & Mutclt funeral home
by Canon A. A. Abraham of St, And-
rew's Memorial Anglican Church, Lon -
Son, and interment was made in Bay -
bald cemetery. .Pallbearers were Lee
McConnell, Harold Elliott, William R,
Stephenson, Orville McCiinchey, Rus-
sell Consitt and Elmer Turner, Mr.
Beatty ltad resided in Varna all his
life and until two months ago conduct-
ed a farm implement business. Surviv-
ing besides his wife, formerly Kath-
leen M, 'Welsh. are one sen, George.
at home; one daughter, Mary, Lon-
don; his Mother and three sisters,
Mrs. Rciss Latham and Gladys, Lan-
don. and Edith of Varna..

Fire Monday night destroyed a large
barn on the farm of Thomas D. Wren,
Hibbert Township clerk, and caused
damage estimated at $10.000.

turned home from their honeymoon

ied Mr. and Mrs. Harold Elligson
and Donald to Kitchener on Sunday
visiting Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Elligson.
Mr. and Mrs. Aug Hillebrecht ac-
companied Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wei-
tersen to Hamilton recently, visiting
Mr, and Mrs. John Mueller.
Mrs. John C. Diegel and Mr. Geo.
Diegel were guests of Mr .and Mrs,
George Wolfe last Thursday on the
occasion of their SOth wedding an-
niversary.

returned home after several weeks
spent with their family in Windsor
and Detroit. Mr. Mervin Miller has
taken a position in Galt.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rode and
family of Palmerston with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hinz enter-
tained the immediate fancily and rel-
atives on Sunday in honor of his
father Mr. Henry Rock, who cele-
brated his 78th birthday.
Quite a number from here attend-
ed the shower for Mr, and Mrs.
Kenneth Riehl (Grace Vock) in the
Town hall, Mitchell, last Tuesday
evening.

MRS. G. H. MONTGOMERY
After a year's illness, Mrs. George
H. Montgomery died In her 74th year.
She was born in Port Hope and spent
much of her life in Toronto. In 1046
Mrs. Montgomery .came to make Iter
Monte here, living oil John st, Follow-
ing a short service here the bodywas
taken to Toronto for interment.
MRS. WILLIAM HARRISON
Following a long illness at the Rus-
ton nursing home in Mitchell, Mrs.
William Harrison died on Monday at
the age of 78 years. The 'former Re-
becca Pattison, she was born at Uff-
ington, Ont., and came to this dis•
tract in 1926. In religion she was an
Anglican. Besides her husband she is
survived by one son and two daugh-
ters, Herbert Harrison, MCKillolr; Vio-
let, Mrs. Russel Carter, McKillop;
Mereta, Mrs, William Dodd, Auburn;
and one sister, Mrs. William Allen,
Bracebridge. The body rested at the
Box Finet•al Home, High st., where
Rev. 0". A, Jones of St. Thomas Ang-
lican Church will conduct the funeral
service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, burial
in Maitland Bank cemetery;
