Fire caused by lightning de-
stroyed the large barn on the third
concession of Stanley owned by El-
gin Thompson, Kippen, on Thurs-
day morning last. The barn was lo-
cated on the Pepper farm purchased
by Mi. Thompson last spring and
about a mnile from his .home farm.
The fire was first noticed by Mrs.
Wm. Pepper who occupies the house
and she turned in the alarm. At the
salve ttime Mrs. Thompson noticed
the flames from their home place
and called her husband who was
milking. They could see a narrow
strip of flames extending down the
side of the barn. A thunder storm
was on at the time. Included in the
loss were 190 he=ns, 1000 bushels
mixed. grain, 200 bushels wheat and
50 tons of hay, four pigs, harness
and some small implements. Some
pigs were saved. Brucefield fire
brigade responded quickly to the
call but the fire had gained too
much headway. The loss is partly
covered by insurance.

weeks at the same home.

his home with a sore bask and leg.
Harvest d=ome Festival was ob-
served at .St. Peter's Lutheran
Church on Sunday morning with the
church filled to capacity. The
Church was beautifully deoorated
with grain, vegetables, fruit and
flowers for the .occasion and the
primary class of the Sunday ,School
carried the following to the front
of the church. Grain was carried by
Dorothy and Kathy Becker, Ken-
neth Ahrens and Billy Beuerman.

Joseph lfallinan in ,Detroit last
week.
Patrick Hallinan, a nephew of
Mrs. Cronin's, was the youngest son
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward lfallinan,
Detroit, who died on Sunday, Sept.
14, at the age of seven years. He is
survived by his 'parents and ono
brother, Terry. The funeral was
held on Wednesday, Sept, 1? from
the Suresh Funeral:liome to Pre-
eious Blood Church and interment
took place at Holy Sepulchre Ceme-
tery. The pallbearers were James
'Worthington, Kenny Worthington,
Bobby Cronin, Detroit and Joseph
Cronin, Dublin.
