Miss Betty Moir, who has accept-
ed a position with the Canada Trust
Co„ in London, -spent this weekend
at the home of her mother, Mrs.
Bertha Moir.
Bride Honored
A surprise shower in honor of
Mrs. Robert Saingster, •(nee Betty
Moir) a recent bride, *ins held at the
hone of Mrs, P. Buchanan and Mrs,
Wm. R. Bell. Mr's. Clarence Knight,
assisted by girl friends of the bride
arranged the event. The bride was
presented with lovely gifts consist -
of china, glassware, silverware,
towels and a sandwich toaster. Miss
Norma Sangster read the address
and contests were conducted by
Miss Mary Goodwin and Miss Norma
Sangster. Dainty refreshments were
served.
James Hoggarth
James Hoggarth, 88, died at the
residence of his son, Herb, in Lon-
don, Salturday. Mr. Hoggarth was
born in Hibbert, and was for many
years with the late Donald Urqu-
hart in his mill and in later years
with Laird Mickle. In September,
1851, Mr. and Mrs. Hoggarth cele-
•brated their golden wedding anni-
versary. Mrs. Hoggarth died in
April, this year. He was a member
of Carmel Presbyterian Church,
Hensall.
Surviving are two sons, Herb and
Donald, London, three daughters,
Mrs. Stewart Barbour, Mimico, Mrs.
Roy Flear, Grand Bend, and Mrs.
Clarke Kennedy, Hensall, and nine
grandchildren, and one sister, Miss
Mary Ann Hoggarth, Hensall.
Funeral services were held from
the Bonthron Funeral Biome on
Monday, conducted by Rev. John
B. Fox. Burial was in Exeter ceme-
tery.
Harry Horton
Harry Horton, 58, who died it
London on Saturday, was born in
Tuckersmith twp, and resided there
for many years. He was unmarried.
He was a member of Hensall United
Church. Surviving are one brother,
Jarvis, Hensall; and two sisters,
Mrs. J. Harpole London; and Mrs.
Evelyn Near, 'Hayter, .Alta. Private
services were conducted on Tues-
day at 2 p.m. by the Rev: W. J.
Rogers, and burial made in Mc-
Taggart's Ceemtrey.
ACHIEVEMENT DAY
Huron County 1952• Girls' Home
Garden Club Achievement Day,. held
at the town hall, Clinton, on Friday
was a successful event, with '12 girls
having completed their projects.
Miss Jean Steckle, newly appointed
home economist for Huron and
Bruce Counties, was in charge, with
Miss Jean Scott, field consultant to
the Ontario home economist service,
and Miss Leslie M. Wall, hone econ-
omist for Oxford and Norfolk, as-
sisting.
Doreen Lanib, Goderich, leader of
the Colwanosh club, was presented
by Miss Scott with provincial honor
certificate for having completed 12
projects.
Six projects were completed by
five girls, who received county hon-
ors; Betty Campbell, Dublin; June
Smith, Seaforth; Beth Pryce, Dub-
lin; Pearle Hern, Woodham; and
Mavis McBride, Centralia.
Two projects were successfully emu:
Meted by 24 girls, who received their
certificates of achievement.
At the annual Huron County Achie-
vement night, which will be held in

November, all 72 girls who completed
their projects for Friday's achieve-
ment day will be presented with sil-
ver spoons.
The program opened at 9.30 a.m.
Friday with registration and the
placing of exhibits. Exhibits by first-
year members included a record -book
on club work, a display of vegetables,
and a dining -room or living room bou-
quet; second -year members exhibited
in addition a jar of canned tomatoes;
while each third -year member showed
one exhibit as outlined by their man-
ual, as well as giving a three-minute
comment on her exhibit.
Club exhibits were set up liy six
clubs, Elimville, Seaforth, Iiippeu
East, Blyth, Auburn and Colwanosh.
Miss Steckle stated that the exhibits
were excellent, being well arranged
and prepared, attractive, and, of most
importance, of exceptional quality,
with much of the credit being given
to G. W, Montgomery, agricultural re-
presentative,. and his assistant, John
D. Butler.
Special comments by third -year
gardeners, who completed special pro-
jects, were made by Eleanor McCart-
ney, Seaforth, on Home Beautifica-
tion"; Jean Scott, Seaforth, "New
Vegetables to Grow and Eat"; Sally
Nott, Seaforth, "Canning"; Anna Rote
tly, Elimville, "Special Preparation of
Vegetables"; Hazel Sparling, Elirn-
ville, "Canning and Freezing;" Elaine
Hern, Elimville, "Canning"; Eliza-
beth Hunter, Elimville, "Half Acre of
Turnips"; Patricia Kerslake; Elim-
ville, "Turnips for Shipping."
Skits and demonstrations were pre-
sented by the following clubs: Elim-
ville, a demonstration on "Salads";
Seaforth, a demonstration on "Sery
ing Salads"; Kippen East, a demon-
stration 'On 'Let's Arrange Flowers";
Blyth, a skit on "Vegetables for
Health."
