PEPPER REUNION
The Pepper reunion was held . at
the Lions' Park, Seaforth, on Satur-
day, June 21st with about 90 pre-
sent. A program of races was run

The lovely farm home of I4r. and
Mrs. Bert Riley, Cromarty, was the
setting, Saturday, June 21st for the
annual Riley Reunion attended by
some ninety members of the elan
front Stratford, St. Penis, Brussels,
Staffa, Cromarty. Zurich and 'Hen-
sall. Sports directed by Mr, and Mrs.
Jim Riley,, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm.,
Kellington, of Brussels were enjoy-
ed, climaxed with a hall game, Prizes
for the oldest person present to Ar-
chie Luxton, Hensall; youngest, Jo-
anne Stinson, Mitchell; oldest mar-
ried couple, Mr. and Mrs. John Ri-
ley. Kippen; youngest married cou-
ple, Mr, and Mrs, Allen Steckley, St.
Pauls; largest family, Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Brodhagen, and their ten oltild-
r'en, of St. Pauls coming the longest
distance, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kelling-
ton and family, Brussels.
Officers elected were: Pres., Roy
Smale, Hensall; vice-pres., Ed Brod-
hagen, St. Pauls; sec., Wm, Riley,
Zurich; treas., Frank Harburn, Hen-
sall. Sports—Lloyd and Ross Riley.
Cromarty; Mr. and Mrs. George Boa,
Staffa. A sumptuous supper was
served topped off with ice cream.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Riley,
Cromarty, was again chosen as the
site for the 1953 reunion.

home from a trip through the United
' States.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Colson, Mr,
and Mrs. Jamas McEwing returned
home on Sunday from Brace'bridge
where they spent several days,
Mr. James Scott left Monday for
Alberta to visit a sick sister. He
went by motor.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Lear, Mr. and
Mrs, Stan 'Chellew returned recently
from a trip down through the States.

their meeting on Thursday, July 3
which will be in the form of a picnic
at Mrs. Clarence Ball's on the Base
Line. Miss Edith Beacom will give
a talk on her trip to Washington. If
it should rain on Thursday the pic-
nic will be on Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wes Hoggart have
taken a trip to Newfoundland.

visited with Mr. and Mrs. Trooper at
their home here.
Mrs. James Woodman had the
misfortune to fall and 'break her hip.
She is in the Clinton Community
Hospital, where she is as well as can
be expected.

at Almonte after spending a week
with Mr. Robt. McFarlane.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Haase left on
Tuesday for a motor trip to West-
ern Canada and the States.
Ronald Davidson was able to re-
turn home from, the hospital on Fri-
day after the accident last week
when he was wounded in the wrist.
He and Bobby Betties were prepar-
ing to shoot starlings at the Betties
home when the accident took place.

The Kippen East. Institute held
their meeting at the home of Miss
Margaret McKay, June 18th with 35
present. Mrs. E. Whitehouse presid-
ed. The meeting opened with the
Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect.
Roll tall was answered by an inter-
esting event in the '30's. Minutes of
last meeting were read and adopted
and treasurer's report given. A
thankyou card was read from Mrs.
W. Bell, and verbal thanks from Mrs.
Charles Eyre for treats. The • bus
trip was planned for August 21st to
Detroit. Instrumental was given by
Mrs. R. Peck. An interesting talk
was given on Indian Stores by Mis.
Win. Alexander. The motto, Keep
your face towards the Sunshine and
the Shadows will fall behind you,
was very ably given by Mrs. Hugh
McGregor. Mrs. Robert Upshall had
charge of Current Events. Mrs. R.
Broadfoot gave a piano solo. Two
humorous poems were given by Mrs.
H. Caldwell, Plans for the picnic to
be held July 8th were discussed. A
splendid report on the District An-
nual was given by Mrs. R. Peck.
Presentation of a gift to Mrs. Fred
Slavin, who is leaving the communi-
ty, also one to be given to Miss Hel-
en Turner, who was unable to be
present. Mrs. J. Wood conducted a
contest. The meeting closed with
"God save the Queen". A delicious
lunch was served by the hostess and
lunch committee.
