Irhe• Varna W.M.S. entertained
Blake and 'Goshen ladies and former
members at their special 25th anni-
versary meeting held Tuesday even-
ing June 9th in the Varna Church.
The meeting which was presided over
by Mrs. 'Geo. Reid, opened with the
singing of hymn 113 'Spirit Divine
attend our prayers. :Rev. •Reba Hern
led in prayer. The scripture from St.
John, chap. 11 was read by Mrs. Ban-
croft from Blake. A. trio from Goshen
Church, Mrs. Elmer Keys, Mrs. Bob
Peck and Mrs. Elmer Hayter sang,
accompanied by Mrs. Bruce Keys.
Mrs, John McKinley conducted a
memorial service for the 41 members
of the three societies who hare died

JUDGING COMPETITION
HELD AT SEAFORTH
•
Howard Pym, Centralia, topped the
4th annual Huron County Junior Far-
mers' judging competition held at Sea -
forth community centre on Saturday,
with a total of 593 points in all
classes. In this competition each Jun-
ior was requested to judge two
classes each of dairy and beef cattle,
and swine, and one class each of
heavy horses and sheep. Competitors
were required to give oral reasons for
one class of each of tate five groups.
These classes of livestock ,were
Provided through the co-operation of
seyeral farmers, Ephriam Snell, Bob
McMillan Bill Turnbull, William .Dale,
William Glazier, Andrew Dessick,
Peter Simpson, James M, Scott and
W. C. Montgomery.

Competition, senior section; (1) Ho-
ward Pym, Centralia, 593 points. (2)
Mervin Falconer, Seaforth, 581 points.
(3) George Turton, Goderich, 570
points.
Intermediate Section; (1) Bob Al-
lan, Brnceiield, 582 points, (2) Bill
Taylor Belgrave, 680 points. (8)
Francis Hicknell, Seaforth, 562 points.
Junior Section: (1) Eric Anderson,
Londesboro, 571 points. (2) Peter
Hicknell, Seaforth, 564. points. (3)
Kenneth Campbell, Dublin, 657 points.
All scores are out of a possible 650.
The official judges for the competi-
tion were: George Gear, Agricultural
Representative for Bruce County;
Bill Kilmer, Assistant Agricultural
Representative for Perth County; Don
Black, Assistant Agricultural Repren-
tative for Wellington County; Win-
ston Shapton of Exeter and Robert
MCKercher, Dublin.
Eight girls competed in the judging
along with the boys. This competi-
tion, the largest of its nature ever to
be held in Huron County, consisted of
42 Junior's, 13 Intermediates and 7
Seniors. EricAnderson, Londesboro,
received a shield donated by theCNE
Association for the best novice judge,
Bill Taylor of Belgrave in the Dairy
Section with 141 points and John
Clark of Goderich in the Swine Sec-
tion with 145 points, were each
awarded a silver trophy for being
high man in these two sections.
NORTHSIDE W. M. S.
The June meeting of the W. M. S.
of the United 'Church was held
Thursday afternoon at the church.
Mrs. R, Lawson opened the meeting
with one verse of hymn "Wher.e
cross the crowded ways of life" and
prayer. Mrs. J. Finlayson acted as
secretary in the absence of Mrs. A,
Porteous. The minutes and reports
were given. The treasurer Miss A.
Ferguson, gave the monthly report.
Roll call was answered by 26 mem-
bers. A bale of clothing was packed
after the meeting to be forwarded
to Toronto. Mrs. C. C. Keine gave a
Temperance reading "Save the Boys".
Mrs. M. Cuthill's group had charge
of the program. The worship service
opened with prayer and responsive
reading of the 23rd psalm. Mrs.
Lorne Webster read the 2nd chap. of
St. Luke's gospel. The Conference
branch hymn "Let Christian faith
and hope Dispel' was sung 'after
which Miss Ethel Dennis of Walton
gave a splendid report of the 'Con-
ference Branch meeting at Sarnia
which she attended as our delegate
in May She told of the advance of
the W.M.S. in the last 25 years and
emphasized the school for leaders at
Alma College, St. Thomas. The Unit
ed Church Training School is the one
centre which our Burch provides for
special preparation for church work.
The meeting closed with hymn "Blest
be the tie that Binds" and prayer.
HARRISON REUNION
The Harrison Reunion was held at
Harbour Park in Goderich' on June
10. There were 97 present for a
warm dinner, a very good turnout
for the wet weather earlier in the
day. The sports were run off and a
ball game was much enjoyed. A
bounteous picnic supper was served
to conclude the picnic.
The refiners elected for the 1951
picnic were as follows. Pres., •Mrs,
Fred McCullough; Sec.-Treas., Miss
Clara 'Harrison; Directors Mr. and
Mis. N. Heard and Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
mer Harrison: Sports, Audrey Har-
ison, Jack Proctor, Lorne and Chester
Hackett.

HOME GAME
About 300 eager spectators were
out to see the first football game of
the season in St. Columban, The
home team edged out Winthrop in
a 2-1 score. McClure scored the goal
for Winthrop, and F. O'Connor and
P. O'Sullivan chalked up the goals
for St. Columban.
