'McEwen,, and while here attended the initiation at the Eastern Star Lodge in Exeter.. Mrs, Bertha Moir visited lastweek with her sister-in-law, Miss Helen Moir in London. Dr, Harry Joynt, Mrs. Joynt and Judith Ann of Toronto, spent the weekend with the former's mother, Ml's, Alice Joynt. Mr, and Mrs. Albert Geddes of Exeter visited last week with Kr. and Mrs. Lorne Luker. Mr.. and Mrs, •Stan Tudor and Miss Margaret Tudor of 1Goderieh spent the weekend with relatives at Dun- das. Mr. and Mr's. Harold Foster and family of Winghani and Miss Jean Foster of London were weekend visit- ors with their parents, !Mn and Mrs. A. Foster, United Church Anniversary Successful and largely attended anniversary services Were observed in the Hensall United Church on Sun- day, May 28 at 11 arm. and 7 p.m. The guest speaker, Rev; J. W. Rogers of Blyth delivered two very challeng ing addresses. In the morning Mr. Rogers used as his theme "Building a new world on an old Pattern" in which he stressed the love of God and love of our brethren. Sn the evening 'Mr. Rogers was assisted by Rev. P. A. Ferguson, .pastor of 'Car- mel Presbyterian Church, who offer- ed prayer. The subject "The Greater Profanity" which is having a serious effect on the cultural life of the people. We profess to believe in 'God and yet it makes no difference to our individual ways of living. The witness of ,the Church is weakened. 'We have lost the urgency of the Christian Gospel. Let us rise up and be true witnesses. The choir under the direction of Mr. S. Rennie sang two anthems "God's Lovely Dwell- ings" and "Spirit of God" with the. solo parts being taken by Mrs. R. Broderick. Mrs. H. McEwan and Mr. Rannie. Lovely floral ar- rangements adorned the church for the occasion. In memory of the late Mrs. T. Harris a beautiful basket of flowers was placed on the communion table by members of the Har'iis family. William G. Bell William G. Bell, 66, lifelong resi- dent of Hay Township and one of the best known farmers in the district, died Thursday afternoon in Victoria Hospital, London. He and Mrs, Bell had recently bought a home in Exe- ter, and were planning to move there soon. He was amember of Carmel Presbyterian Church,, and of Hensall Masonic Lodge. Surviving besides his wife, are one son, Harold, Hensall; one daughter, Mrs. J, D. Carter, Ed- monton: one brother, Robert, Lon- don, and three sisters, Mos.
