Several items of business were taken up and motions passed, A St. Pat- rick's social will be held in the' church on Match 17 with a good program and lunch will be served. Everybody will be welcome, The regular meeting of the W.M.S. was Held in the church basement on March 8, Mrs. H. Johnston presided for this meeting, Several answered, the roll call with a favorite verof scripture, The meeting opened by singing hymn 446 followed by the Lord's prayer in unison, The Secre- tary's report was read and adopted. The treasurer's report was also given. Plans were made for our April meeting which will be held on Good Friday evening, April 70The Pa- geant From Strength to Strength" will be presented at this service. It was moved by Mrs. Ed. Bryans and seconded by wits. Hers Kirkby, that five invite the ladies from Brussels. Winthrop and Mnncrief Churches to attend this service. Mrs. W. J. Ben- nett, leader of tine 17th and bound- ary group. then had charge of the meeting, She was assisted by Mrs. Cliff Ritchie, Mrs. A. McNichol, Mrs. L. Leeming' and 1VIrs, R. • Bennett. The meeting closed with a moment of silent prayer of dedication, and the closing prayer in the worship service. WINTHROP Rev. H. E. Livingstone of Browns vine has accepted the call extendec to him by the McKillop charge and will begin his pastoral duties here July 1st. Mar. John McClure celebrated het eighty-eighth birthday on Sunday March 12. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Suiith and Airs. Stanley Garnham of Sea forth and members of her fancily called to extend congratulations. We are sorry to hear Mrs. Stew- art Dolniage is in Scott Memorial Hospital. We wish her a speedy re covery. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Holman and family of Atwood visited with Mr. and Mrs, R. K. Davidson. Geo, Moen, who has been in Sea - forth Hospital for a few weeks is home again end is feeling some better. The titareh meeting of the W.M.S. which was postponed' from last week was held en Tuesday afternoon March 14 with group No. 2 in charge, bir. and Mrs. Mervin Pipe spent Tuesday afternoon with the latter's parents: lir. and Mrs. Ed Pollard, who have settled in our village. CONSTANCE The regular meeting of the W.A and W.M.S. of Constance United Church was held in the basement on Wed., March 8. Mrs. Dave Willson gave the theme. Scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Chas. Dexter. MTS Peter Lindsay sang a solo. A read - int: was given by Mrs. Wm. Jewitt Mrs. Geo. Addison gave a piano in streniental. 'Airs. Chas. Dexter gave a temperance reading and Mrs. Geo Addison gave a Christian steward ship reading. It was decided to do a quilt in church basement on March 15th. Proceeds for W.M.S. expense fund. MV'Irs. Clarence 'Montgomery closed the meeting with prayer. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Warren of London spent the 4r -eek end with the latter's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ear Lawson. Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacGregor visited the latter's parents at Cliff- ord on Monday. We are sorry to know Mrs. Stew- art Dolmage is a patient in Scott Memorial Hospital at present. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lawson, Reg and 'lir. and firs. Edward Warren of London spent 'Sunday with Mr. and 'Mrs. Jack Davidson of the Huron Road. Word was received. Friday of the death of Mrs. Laura Cousins at Prince Rupert, B.C. Mrs. Cousins was a sister of 'pblrs. B. B. 'Stephen- son. Mr. and Mrs. George Addison and Betty attended the Tibbett-Mallough reception on Wednesday night. The Golden Link Mission Band niet in the classroom of the church. We opened with the lelission-Band Pur- pose, next was the call to worship followed by hymn 405. A story by Joyce, Jewitt entitled "When Jesus was a Boy", followed by the roll call, 18 were present.Minutes of the last meeting were read followed by hymn 404. The business consisted of Mrs. Dale giving out Mission Band pins. The eohection was taken by Marilyn Taylor which amounted to $1.04. Marilyn then read an interesting poem called "Martha Sue's Dream". Ross Millson read the scripture les- son. Mrs. Dale then read the story book followed by a prayer and hymn .106. The Mission Band closed by :Muriel Dale giving nut the World Friends and Ml's. Dale giving. out the Mite boxes, DUBLIN Mrs. Mary McGrath was pleasant- ly surprised Saturday night by her family at the home of her son-in- law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Miller, 11 John St. E., Wat- erloo, on the occasion of her 40th birthday. Among guests were Mo, and Mrs, Robert McGrath and Gloria Jean, Detroit; Mr. anti Mrs. Thos. P, Morris and Anne, Staffa, Mr, and Mrs, Hubert Zettel, Jack and Pat. Galt, and Mr. Frank McGrath, Kitchener. Mrs, Charles J. Malone, Fort William, was unable to be pre- sent Mrs. McGrath is a daughter of the late :ir. and Mos. Robert Dever- eaux, Seaforth, and the oldest of a family of five, Mrs. Catherine Byrne and Mrs, Joseph Carpenter, Dublin, and firs, 'Phos, E. Kelly, Blyth, are sisters, and Mr. John L. Devereaux, Seaforth, a brother. VARNA Miss Violet McClymont The death occurred in Clinton Public Hospital on Sunday, March 5 of Miss Violet McClymont who pass- ed away in her 52nd year. She had been a patient in the hospital for the past five weeks. During the past 10 years she was employed as a practi- cal nurse in Bayfield and Hensall; wherever she was she always took an active interest in all church activities and during the war was an active Red Cross worker. Surviving are her mother, ,Mrs. !Margaret McClymont and two brothers, Ernest of New• York and Fred at hone. The body rested at the Bonthron Funeral Home, Hensel', until Monday morn- ing when it was taken to her home in Stanley Township. Funeral ser- vices were held from Varna United Church on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Rev. Reba Hern officiated, paying high tribute to the life of the deceased. Interment was in Bayfield cemetery. The floral tributes were many and lovely. HULLETT The Fireside Farm Forum met Monday evening, March 13, at the home of iMt'. and Mrs. Alex Riley with 21 present. After the discussion period on the subject "Can we farm Co -Operatively", a contest was held and euchre was played, most games going to Betty Addison and Alex Riley; lone hands, Mrs. Bert Hog- gart and Bert Hoggart; consolation, Nii's. Ben Riley and Wm. Jewitt. Next meeting will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Hoggart. BRODHAGEN Atthe recent examinations of the Royal Conservatory. of Music, Miss Doreen ISiemon, daughter of A'Ir. and blrs. John E. Siemon, v.v. 4, Mitchell, was successful in obtain- ing honor's in Grade II Piano, and Baster Gary Sholdice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Sholdice, was suc- cessful in obtaining honors in Grade IIT piano. They' are pupils of Miss Joy McNaughton. Mr. Edgar Hillebreeht had the misfortune while playing hockey.to have his glasses broken when he was hit with the puck. It required one stitch on his nose, and the eye- ball was scratched by the glass, but he is getting along fine. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hille- breeht. Mr. and Mrs. George Eickmeir spent the weekend in Detroit with their son, Mr. Milton Eickmeir and bits. Eickmeir. (Mr. and Mrs. Adam Sholdice of Walton are visiting at the home of their son Mr. Russell Sholdice and Mrs. Sholdice. Miss Betty Rock, Kitchener, Robt. Rock, Waterloo and Walter Donavan of Chatsworth, with Mr. and Mr's. Edwin Rock on `Sunday. bir. Mrs. Edward Weston is visiting in Goderich this week. Mr. Fred Turner of 'Goderich spent the weekend with Mr. and Mr's, 'Grant Turner. KIPPEN W. M. S. Meet The W.M.S. met en Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Or- ville Workman with a large attend- ance. The president, Mrs. Winston Workman, presided and opened the meeting with the thence "Ye are not your own". Hymn 387 was then sung. Mrs, Workman then led in prayer. Mrs, J, McLellan had charge of bhe warship and she read Romans 12. Hymn 356 was sung, one verse between each scripture. Mos. W. Caldwell read Mark 25: 1-13. Mr's. Rost. Elgie, Psalm. 56: 1-2, also Acts 4: 20-31; Mrs, Ross Broadfoot, Luke 21: 1-4; Mrs. Herbert Jones, Mark 12: 30-31; Mrs. Workman then led in prayer. Twenty-four members answered the roll call and there were ten visitors. Mrs. Arnold Gackstter and Mrs. Harold Jones fa- vored with a duet "'Sweet Hour of Prayer" Mrs. Allan' Johnson gave the topic "Enlightening' the Mind". A poem "Wait and See" was given by Mrs. W. Alexander. 'Hymn 350 then sung. The meeting closed with the Benediction by Mrs. Workman. Lunch was served by Circle No. 2. We are very pleased to report :lir. Edgar McBride returned to his hone here on Sunday following two weeks in Victoria Hospital, London. Mr. and Mrs. S. Beattie and child- ren of Wingbam spent the weekend with Mr. and 1'Irs. Robt. 'McBride. Mr: and Mrs, Archie Parsons and family visited recently with Mr, and Airs. J. Linden of Denfield. Mrs. Ivy Butt of Seaforth visited friends in this community last week. Mr. and Mrs. H. Jones and 'Grant, Mr. and Mrs. A. Gackstetter, Gail Ann visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. A. Ferguson, at Ilderton: HENSALL Evening Auxiliary bIrs, Lillian Hyde presided for the monthly meeting of the Evening Auxiliary, which took place in the United 'Church School room on Mon- day night, March 13th with a splendid attendance. Mrs. Mary Bu- chanan and (Miss Edna Walsh were hostesses. The theme song and the hymn "He Liveth Long" were sung after which the Lord's Prayer was repeated. Mrs. ,Mary Budltanan con- ducted the devotional period using as her theme "In the beginning God created heaven and earth". Mrs. Maude Redden read the • scripture lesson Psalm 121. Members offered a lovely selection of aprons for the Fall bazaar, in answer to the roll call. An appeal for good used clothing (adult's or childrens') for enclosure with the W.M.S. bale regtiit'es urgent attention.
