BABY CHICKS
During the past ten years, and until a few weeks, ago,
Canadian poultrymen have enjoyed good egg markets.. A
surplus has now developed which at the moment, due to
high feed costs, is causing a loss on every dozen eggs pro-
duced, Is this a temporary situation which will be rectified
by heavy Fall marketing ? We think it is.
In 1938 Canada produced 224,000,000 dozen eggs,
exported 1,800,000 dozen and consumed domestically
227,600,000 dozen.
In 1949 we produced 301,000,000 dozen, exported
40.000'4100 dozen and consumed 321,000,000 dozen, •
Our home consumption has been at the highest point
in history. It may be necessary to reduce our chick buying
10 or 15',, but unless we have sufficient eggs for our
home market, particularly during Summer and Fall, violent
fluctuations in price will result.
Order your chicks as in the past, at the same time,
possibly reduce your order, but stay in the business,
