Craig regret to hear she is confined
to her room owing to illness.
'Mrs. C. Hudson, who has spent
the holiday week with her family in
London, returned to her home here.
Mrs. Melvin Moir and family were
recent visitors with her brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sol-
dan.
lr. and Mrs. A. Pearson of Tor-
onto spent the weekend at the home
of the latter's mother Mrs. Annie
Saundercock.
Choir Social Honors Members

The choir members of the Hensall
i'nited Church met for their regular
practice on Friday night, Jan. 6th.
After practice, an enjoyable social
time was spent in the Sunday School
room, in honor of several choir mem-
bers. The President, Miss Gladys Lu-
ker, presided. Miss Audrey Walsh
and Marlene Petzkie, accompanied
by Miss Edna Walsh, contributed
several pleasing vocal duets. The
President, then referred to the fol-
lowing members, who, owing to
studies have had to discontinue their
choir work for the time being. The
Misses Jean Armstrong, Jean In-
gram, Bernice Jinks and Eleanor
Cook, to whom Mr. Rannie made the
presentation of hymn books and
notes of appreciation.
In the absence of :Mrs, J. R. Mc-
Cloy of Toronto, the former Ruth
Hess, Mrs. Geo. Hess was asked to
accept a gift, a bedspread, and an
address. Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Joynt

er while Mr. Rennie, choir leader,
presented Mrs. Joynt, formerly Miss
Florence Welsh, with a reversible
bed throw. Appropriate replies were
made by the recipients. Inspiring re-
marks were given by Mr. S. G. Ren-
nie and Rev. R. A. Brook The well
attended event closed with lunch
by the ladies assisted by Messrs.
Geo. Hess and M. Drysdale.
Bride Honored
Miss Mavis Spencer was hostess
at her home on Saturday night for
a number of neighbors and friends
in honor of Mrs. T. C. Joynt, the
former Miss Florence Welsh. Bingo
games were played followed by
readings and a social hour, during
which the bride was presented with
many beautiful and useful miscell-
aneous gifts for which she made a
fitting reply expressing her sin-
cere thanks. Refreshments were
served.
Word was received here of the
death of Robert Norris, of Davidson,
Sask., who passed away at the gen-
eral hospital, Regina, Sask. following
a major operation. in his 71st year
He was born east of Cromarty, soil
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Nor-
ris. A blacksmith by trade he learned
his profession in Hensall with bile late
Mr. Hobkirk, He is survived by his
widow, one son and one daughter,
Davidson, Sask., 4 brothers: James
Norris, Mitchell; William, Detroit;
Hugh, Chiselhursti Harry, on the
homestead; five sisters, Mrs. Leon-
ard Butson, Munroe; Mrs. John
Drake, Staff; (Miss Eliza Norris,,
Mitchell; Mrs, W. Piper. California;
Mrs, Louis Keil, Vancouver, B.C.
At the January meeting of the
Hensall branch of the Canadian Le-
gion held in the Legion hall, Monday,
January 9th, officers for 1950 were
installed by Zone Commander Com-
rade George Wilson of Clinton

iday weekend at their hone in the
village,
Mr, and Mrs. R. Clarke and daug-
hter Robert of Cleveland, Ohio,
spent a few days last week with Mr.
and Mrs. 'Chas. Berry.
Miss Gloria Westlake of London
was the guest of ber parents Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Westlake over the
weekend.
Mr. Jack MacKenzie returned to
the University of Toronto this week
after spending the Christmas vaca-
tion with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. MacKenzie.
Mrs. Keith Pruss of London re-
turned to London on Monday after
spending a few days with her par-
ents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Parker.
Miss Lola Elliott returned to De-
troit on Friday after spending Xmas
week with her mother Mrs. M. Ell-
iott.
Messrs. E. and G. Weston have
sold their grocery and bakery busi-
ness to Mr. Kingsbury of Lucknow
who will take possession on May lst.
Donald MacLeod of Port Dover
is spending a few days at his home
here.
Mrs. Lulu Burt and daughter
Mary Lou returned to London on
Monday after spending the past
week with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baker.
Malcolm !MacLeod had the misfor-
tune to have his hand badly torn
while out hunting on Saturday.
Dr. and Mrs. A. Newton -Brady of
Hamilton called on friends in the
village on Monday.
Miss Beverley York, who spent
the 'Christmas vacation at her home
here and in Stratford, returned to
;her school at Lucan on Monday.
Miss Margaret Edith Martin enter-
tained a party of friends from De-
troit over the holiday weekend
at the Martin Cottage, "Boulder
Lodge".
Mr. and Mrs, John Lindsay and
daughter Eller spent the weekend in
Toronto, on their return they were
accompanied by George, who has
been in Toronto for the past week.

The W.IM.S. and WA. of Cavan
Winthrop met on Wednesday, Jan.
4th, in the schoolroom of the church.
Mrs. IE. Toll presided. The thence- of
the worship period was "The Bible
Our Guide and Christian Comfort".
Mrs. Toll and Mrs. T. Betties con-
ducted the worship service from -the
Missionary Monthly. The scripture
lesons were read by Mrs. W. Mc.
.Spadden and 'Mrs. Jno. Pethick.
duet "What a Fellowships' was rend-
ered by Mrs. Harvey Dolmage and
Mrs. Gordon Blanshard. A moment
of silent prayer was observed in
honor of our missionary for prayer,
"Elizabeth S. MacKenzie of Africa".
Then Mrs, L. Bolton led in prayer.
The roll call was answered by 23
ladies. The study on ,Christian Edu-
cation was taken by Mrs. W. Church.
The W.M.Z. report for 1949 was
given by Mrs. L. Bolton. Mrs. E.
Toll closed the worship period with
prayer.
Mrs. Robb. McClure presided for
the W.A. meeting. The finance com-
mittee's report for 1950 was given
and discussed by meeting. MTs. Mc -
Clare closed the meeting with pray-
er. The W.A. served lunch and a so-
cial (half hour was enjoyed.
