Christmas Day services in Carmel
Presbyterian Church were largely at-
tended, In the morning the Minister's
sermon subject was "The Immortal
Song". Music was under the direc-
tion of John L. Nicol A.0.0.O., or-
ganist and choir director. The chair
rendered two lovely anthems, "Arise
Shine" and "The Birthday of a

service was preceded by an organ
recital by John L. Nicol A.C,C.O.
followed by the processional by the
choir "As with Gladness" Rev. P.
A. Ferguson led in the call to wor-
ship, reading of scripture passages
and prayer. The choir sang "Good
Ring Wencelas and "The First Noel"
"Angels we have heard on High",
"Carol Sweetly Carol". Junior Choir
sang "Infant Holy", ,Senior and
Junior Choir, "Silent Night". Miss
Shirley Bell, junior soloist, sang In
a Manger", and Dwayne Tinney,
junior soloist, sang "The Guiding
Star". Miss Jean McDonald of Exet-
er, guest solost, sang "The Infant
Jesus". The service concluded with
the Benediction and the Hallelujah
Chorus by the organist and choir-
master, John L. Nicol, A.C.0,O,
•The canvass for the Western Ont-
ario Bible Society has been com-
pleted and the total receipts were
$213.42, The executive wish to
thank the canvassers for the fine
job well done and the contribution.
The Christmas Day Services in
Hensel! United Church were largely
attended and were conducted by the
Minister, Rev. R. A. Brook, who de-
livered an inspiring message. The
guest soloist at the morning service
wa, Miss Marion Smith of Wesley
United Church. iLondon. At the
evening service the junior and sen-
ior choirs presented the cantata "0
Night of Holy Memories", •soloists,
Mrs. Hugh 'McEwen, Mrs. Russel
Broderick, Messrs, T. J. Sherritt and
Sam Rennie.
Mr, and Mrs. J. L. MaCloy re-
turned 'to Toronto after spending
Christmas with the latter's parents,
Mr. and 'Mrs. Geo. Hess.
Mrs. Lewis of Toronto spent the
weekend holiday with Mr. and Mrs.
R. H. Middleton.
Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Kerslake,
Billie and Joan spent Xmas with
relatives in Walkerton
Rev. P. A. Ferguson, Mrs. Fergu-
son and family visited this week with
relatives in Hamilton.
Miss Helen Moir of London, visit-
ed over the weekend with her sister

Carmel Presbyterian Sunday
School enjoyed a very successful
Christmas party on Friday evening
Dec. 23rd. The schoolroom was
filled to capacity by parents and
friends. The minister, Rev. P. A.
Ferguson, was chairman. The pro-
gram consisted of two numbers by
the whole school "Infant Holy" and
the "Toy maker's Dream", and by the
primary class, "Like a Christmas
Picture", and "Up on the House-
tops" with Jean Kennedy as soloist,
Piano solos were rendered 'by Billy
Brown, Joan Kerslako, R. Ferguson,
Terry Forrest. Billy Kerslake. Don-
ald Maclaren, Shirley Bell, Dwayne
Tinney, Mary Campbell, Edith Love.
Piano duets. Rod Ferguson and Mr,
Nicol, Billie Fink and Mr. Nicol,
Joan Kerslake and Eudore Hyde,
Violin solo, Gerald Smith, vocal solo,
Neil Forrest, Billie McKinnon, Jim-

g'erville, she and her husband re-
sided in Toronto for many years be-
fore moving hero a few years ago.
She is survived by her husband and
three sons, Stewart of St. Cathar-
ines; Murray of Toronto, and Dr.
Ivan G. Smillie, of Kamloops, B:C.
One sister. Miss Jean 11VIurray of
Hensall, also survives. Private fun-
eral service was held from the late
home here at 8:30 p.m. Saturday,
with Rev. R. A. Brook officiating.
The body was taken to Toronto on
Sunday for interment.
