family leave this week on their vaca-
tion which they intend spending at
Glen Rocks, Muskoka. During his ab-
sence the services will be taken each
Sunday at 11 a.m. by Mr. Kenneth
Ashton of Clinton.
Miss Jessie Finlayson and her
mother, Mrs. Jas. Finlayson have re-
turned from a visit with Mr. and Mrs.

Master Keith Fischer of Seaforth
is holidaying with his great grand-
mother Mrs. Rosina Miller,
Messrs. Kenneth and Earl Scher -
berth of Detroit with their grandpar-
ents Mr. and Mrs. John L. Bennewies.
Mr. Fred Scherbarth returned home
with his sons after spending a few
weeks here visiting relatives.
Miss Gwen Rock, nurse in training
is home for three weeks holidays with
her parents Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Rock,
and also recuperating from a tonsil
operation which she underwent at
Kitchener Waterloo hospital on Tues-
day.
STAFFA
The funeral service for Ila Her -
burn of Hibbert township, near Staf-
fa, who was accidentally drowned on
Wednesday of last week, was held at
the Heath funeral home, Mitchell,
with a very large number of sorrow-
ing friends and relatives attending.
The service, with Rev. A. H. Day-
nerd of Staffs United Church offi-
ciating, was held at 2:30 o'clock, on
Friday. Mrs. Edward Glick presided
at the organ and Mrs. Henry Har-
burn of Staffa and Mrs, Harold
Simpson of Exeter sang as a duet,
"Beyond the Sunset," On Thursday
evening, the Mitchell firemen and
Orange Lodge Members, called at the
funeral home to pay their respects.
The profusion of beautiful floral
tributes ware carried by Rosanna
Worden, Kay Marie Worden, Mary
Dearing, Dorothea Taylor, Margie
Drake, Kathy Rayburn, Penny Scott
and Sharon Agar, pupils of S. S. 3,
Hibbert, The pallbearers were also
pupils from this school, which Ila at-
tended, Terry Daynard, Jack Dear-
ing, 13i11 Parsons, Gary Quance, Ron-
nie Agar, Gordon Vivian.
Burial was made in Staffa ceme-
tery. Those attending were from
Sarnia, London, Simcoe, Cargill, Lon-
desboro, Brussels, Exeter, Hensall,
Wellburn, Kipper, Clinton; Seaforth,
St. Pauls, Sebringville, Woodham,
Russeldale, Farquhar, ,Brodhagen,
Dublin, Mitchell, Cromarty, Staffa
and district.

Mrs. Jack Heal and infant daugh-

Mr. Dayman Dies Suddenly
Mr. Robert Dayman passed away
suddenly at his home on Wednesday.
Born in Tuckersmith township, he
fanned there until moving to Hensall
two years ago. He is survived by his
wife, the former Gertrude Glazier of
Clinton, two daughters (Ida) Mrs.
,Fred Baker, Lambeth; (Edna) Mrs.
Elgin Johnston, London, one broth-
er, Joseph Daynean, Exeter, one sist-
er, Mrs. Strout of New York City.
Funeral services were held '1 the
Hensall United ,Church on friday,
conducted by Rev. John B. Fox. In-
terment in Exeter Cemetery.
Donald Jackson returned home aft-
er spending a week's holidays with
his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. F. Nelson in ,Goderieh.
Mrs. Clarence Reid, Jerry and
Allan visited with relatives in Tees -
water and Kincardine last week.
Rev. John B. Fox will conduct
church services in the Hensall United
Ohurch during August and the first
Sunday in September.

Faber is expected home this week
after spending a couple of weeks in
London Hospital with an attack of
Polio.

The August meeting of the W. A.
of Walton United Church met on
Thursday afternoon at 2 p.in, in the
church basement. Mrs. Love presid-
ing, opened the meeting with the W.
A. Theme song. Scripture reading was
'Matthew 5: 1-20, followed by the
Mary Stewart Collect. Hymn 649
was then sung. Sec. report was read
and approved. Treas. report was then
given by Mrs. Coutts, A vote of
thanks to the .C.G.I.T, leaders and
girls for their work in the kitchen,
The meeting closed with prayer.
MERRY MAIDENS GARDEN CLUB.
Our sixth meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Haugh on August 9 at.
8 p.m. We opened by repeating the
4-11 motto and singing 'The more we
get Together", Our roll call was an-
swered by the control of an insect
which we had in our garden. Mrs.
Haugh discussed soma bouquets made
by some first year members. Then
we had a garden, quiz and went out
to see the flowers. We judged some
vegetables followed by a delicious
picnic supper and some vegetable dis-
plays. The winners of a flower con-
test were Catherine 'Campbell and
Laurel Dale. The results of the games
which followed were: Umbrella relay,
Dorothy Keys' team. Bean Relay,
Catherine ,Campbell's team; Straw
and Betut Relay, Dorothy Keys'
team; Pillow Case Relay, Joan Som-
erville's team; Sir Walter Raleigh
Relay, Dorothy Keys' team; Candle
Relay, Catherine Campbellsteam;
