Constable Gordon Ferris spoke to
the Boy Scouts at their weekly meet-
ing on Wednesday, The subjects tak-
en up were Traffic Control, High-

quired to pass tests in these subjects,
the constable's talk was received
with great interest.
DUBLIN
The members of the Parent-Teaeh-
er's Association of St. Patriek's
School, Dublin, had the honour of
having as guest speaker at their
April meeting, His Excellency Bish-
op Turner of, the Searboro Foreign
Mission Society, •Scariboro Bluffs,
Toronto. Bishop Turner was intro-
duced by Rev, Father Thomas Mc-
Quaid, Superior General of the Ord-
er, who is a graduate of. the Dublin
'ContinuationSchool, Father Mc-
Quaid gave a brief account of the
founding of the Order by Father
Praiser who saw the great need of
missionary priests to help to spread
the word of God among the people
in China. The Society was first
known as the China Missionary So-
ciety. Today they have • one hundred
priests, three of whom are graduates
of Dublin Continuation •School, and
one Bishop.. His Excellency Bishop
Turner was born in Montreal and
after finishing school there attended
St. Jerome's College, Kitchener, and
Scarbore Seminary, Toronto. He was
ordained a priest in 1985 and after
spending a short time with the Chin-
ese in Vancouver was assigned to
the Foreign Missions in China. He
was consecrated Bishop of Lishui in
1948. Itis Excellency spent fourteen
years there and is familiar with the
characteristics of the people and the
country,
In his address Bishop Turner
spoke on the persecution in China of,
the 'Catholics by the Communists. He
said the methods of persecution were
the most modern and the worst in
the world, the aim being to com-
pletely exterminate the Church. He
said that the children are worked on
first, the communists coming into
the school yards with revolvers to
force them to obey their rules. They
work slowly and thoroughly, asking
for and obtaining first, temporary
loans of schools, Churches and Con-
vents and finally their permanent
use. Chinese people, nuns, and priests
are brought to trial on very small
pretexts and are placed in jail when
found guilty. They are here for long
periods of time, are almost starving
and are undergoing very severe per-
secutions. The results of these per-
secutions are very sad, the young
people are growing up without any
knowledge of God and the older
people are dying. We at home here
in Canada can help the Chinese by
our prayers, says Bishop Turner,
praying for them because they are
also children of God for whom He
suffered and died; and praying for
those who are undergoing persecu-
tions because of their Faith. •
Rev. Dr. Ffoulkes, Dublin, on be-
half of the P.T.A. thanked Ilis Ex-
cellency Bishop Turner for his en-
lightening talk- He said that we were
very proud to have two such disting-
uished guests at our meeting,
The President, Mr, George Duch -
aline presided for the meeting which

Dear Mrs. Humphries and Mar-
jorie,—Since our club is nearing its
close, except for preparations and
achievement clay, we felt we could
not let this opportunity pass without
letting you know how much we en-
joyed our meetings, and how we ap-
preciated your untiring efforts in
teaching us our sewing lessons and
giving us so many valuable notes.
We will now ask you to accept these
gifts as a mere remembrance of this
project together. Signed by the girls
of the Walton Needleworkers. The
