BAYFIELD
There was a good attendance and
considerable interest evidenced at
the annual meeting of the Bayfield
Agricultural Society held in the town
hall on Friday afternoon, Jan. 15,
1954. The meeting was under the
chairmanship of Carl E. Diehl, who
was retiring after three years as.
president. Reports showed a balance
:of over a hundred dollars on hand.
!While more money had been paid
;out in prizes in some classes in
11953, other classes were down in
exhibits and so it averaged about
:the same as last year.
A motion was passed to deed the
(front half, 65 feet, more or less, of
(the three lots fronting on Jane and
I Fry Streets, to the Township of
Stanley, for the community centre,
subject to certain reservations re-
garding the use of the building. and
grounds by the Bayfield Agricul-
tural Society. This will enable the
Lions Club which has sponsored the
erection of the arena to obtain the
provincial grant. It was also pointed
out 'that the directors of the Agricul-
tural Society had been waiting for
some weeks for the movers to take
the old exhibition building over to a
position beside the present cattle
shed, to enable the Lions Club to go
ahead with further plans.
Assistant Agricultural Represent-
ative for Huron County. H. Baker,
was present and spoke on the 4-H
Club work, asking for support of the
Bayfield Dairy and Beef Calf Clubs
and Swine Club again this year. In-
stead of a tractor rodeo as had been
held the past few years, he suggest -
'ed a tractor maintenance course for
i boys 14-21, which it was decided to
support this year. Reeve Alvin J.
'McBride presided for the election•
