azine Rack; The special prize was
won by Irvin Glom! of Bornholm.
Santa arrived and distributed gifts
and candies to the pupils. The pupils
were accompanied by their teacher,
Norma Leeming.
Wilfred Coleman, past chairman of
the board had not stood for re-elec-
tion. IIe felt the township has edu-
cational facilities equal to any other
rural area in the province. The in-
crease of school population to 209
from 175 last year and 156 the pre-
vious year, had been a difficulty,
along with increased operational
costs, but they had kept the mill
rate the same without stinting the
pupils in any way and they had a
bus trip to Niagara and Queenston.
There had been •a water problem at
No. 5 school where the teacher had
to bring water by car. A surface
well had been dug at a cost of $106.
the water grading A by the health
unit but due to being off taste it
was chlorinated. One school was re-
decorated and cost spread over two
years, the other schools had outside
trim painted.
Changes in school population and
pupils from trailer homes, he dealt
with in detail. The neighborhood of
the radio school with many new fam-
ilies was a problgm. One school had
thirty pupils, the next month only
ten pupils were left. Egmondville
school had increased from 28 to 38
now and by the New Year would be
42 or 44, There are three trailers in
Egmondville, workers on No. 8 high-
way, and four children go to Eg-
mondville school.
"Nothing in the assessment act
permits an assessor to assess a trail-
er for municipal purposes and as a
consequence they can send children
to schools and yet you pay the cost,"
he said. "I don't think we have any
bylaws dealing with trailers. I think
the incoming council should deal
with it.
James McIntosh, representative to
Seaforth High ,School, said Seaforth
school was overcrowded and even
the girls' cloak room was too small
to hang up their coats. They won't
need any more teachers now, he said.
They figure it will cost us about one
mill to fix up the school for a larger
enrolment.
'Gordon Richardson reported for
the Tuckersmith Federation of Ag-
riculture. He said the township fed-
erations have representation on the
county federation and the latter
have directors on the provincial fed-
eration. He outlined work of the
federations and said there was talk
of proposing as a project the vaccin-
ation for Bang's disease as a cam-
paign like that for warble fly.
Clerk Edwin Chesney gave the
following statement in clarification
of assets and liabilities of the town-
ship as contained in the revenue
fund halance sheet dated Dec. 31,
1952:
