Ottawa ANNUAL MEETING OF NORTHSIDE W. M. S. Northside General W. A. meeting was held in the S. S. room on Dec, 29th. Mrs, Knight .opened the devo- tional part, A Christmas benediction was given, Mrs. Knight read "0 Lit- tle Town of Bethlehem” with every- one repeating the last verse. A carol was sun; and a reading on Love given. Mrs. Bradshaw gave soma history •on the writer of "It came upon a Midnight Clear", The nominating report was given and the new officers installed by Rev, J. W. Stinson. Reports were given and lettere of thanks read. A rubber mat has been purchased for the parson- age, The annual reports were given. 81 boxes of fruit had been sent to the sick. The group reports showed a successful year. All the carpets are paid for and there is a balance of over ;$500 in the bank, Mrs. Stin- son thanked those who had helped make repairs at the parsonage. • A vote of thanks was moved to Mr. Whitney for •his help when purchas- ing the carpets. Mrs. Walden thanked the members for their co-operation and help during, the year and said she would appreciate a larger attend- ance at meetings, An extra $100 will be put into the parsonage fund this year. $10 will be sent to the Train- ing School Fund. A Valentine sup- per will be held Feb. 10th, adults $1, children 400. A pre -Easter film will be shown March 26th. Mr. Chas MacKay was named chairman. He expressed regret that Reeve Alf. Moffat had been sick for some weeks and was unable to attend, though now on the mend. He said it is hoped he will be back another year to help. He said Councillor Crozier, who had been acting reeve is in Seaforth Hospital with flu and pneumonia and that he was asking Mr. McIn- tosh as his nominator to speak for him. The latter replied that Mr. Cro- zier had told him that morning that. he would stand. A review of the financial situa- tion was given by James Doig who said he felt the turn has been made in the rising costs of the past few years. He read a financial statement prepared by Reeve Moffat.' Re-elected are 'Reeve Daniel Beuer- man and Councillors Earl Mills, Jer- ry Doerr, Wilson Little and Albert Siemon. Following the nomination town- ship clerk J. M. Eckert was appoint- ed chairman for the speeches. Reeve Beuerman thanked the ratepayers for the honor: It was his sixth year as reeve and five of them had been by acclamation. He said twenty bridges had been built in five years, the biggest one, at Rox- boro, being finished this year. Reviewing the year's work at the county council Reeve Beuerman said the county had joined the live- stock protective association organ- ized throughout the province, with $1000 reward for information lead- ing to the conviction of a cattle rustler. Reeve Beuerman said that pay- ments of hospital accounts could now be registered against any land that the patients owned, and when their estate was settled, the county would be reimbursed for payments of hospital bills. The new addition to the county home south of Clinton is progressing favorably. The contract price is 4832,000, The old building is being renovated at a cost of $16,000. Reeve Beuerman told about the work on the county roads. The new bridge just east of Winthrop cost $16,000. There was a proposal to cut off some of the county roads, which amount to 400 miles at pre- sent. One of the roads considered was the 75' miles in Morris, 9th line from the Walton Church corner to Blyth which was duplicated by the boundary road which ran parallel to it. Hill of- Brucefield after an illness of three weeks, She - was formerly Miss Winnifred Agnes Wright and was born in McKillop township on May 21, 1887. In 1920 she was married to Mr. Hill and she lived in StanleY township until moving to Brucefield six years ago. Mr. Hill predeceased her in December, 1947. She was a member of Brucefield United 'Church. Surviving are two brothers and a sister, John, Brueefield, William A., Seaforth, and Mrs. John Riley, of Brussels. The funeral will take place from the G. A. Whitney Funeral Home in .Seaforth, on Thursday, Dec. 31st at 2 p.m. with interment in Maitland - bank cemetery. Rev. W. J.
