Three-year-old Rickey Harrison received head injuries on Tuesday when he ran out on the street from behind a parked truck into the path of a car. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Harrelson, Besse apartments. Miss Margaret Grummett has ac- cepted a position as operator with The Bell Telephone Co. at Clinton. Mr.. Alvin Knight of Hamilton, Cecil Knight of Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Knight and Harold of Goderich, Mr. John Knight, Mrs, F. J. Ritchie and John of London, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knight of Hen sell, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Knight and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Knight. Mr. Robert Knight of Kitchener spent the weekend at his home here. Miss Betty Bannon, Toronto, spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Ellen Bannon. Mr, and Mrs. James Mauliaux and daughter of Toronto visited Mrs. Joseph McQuaid over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. D. Smith, Toronto, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Little. Mrs. W. Fleischer and son Noel and Miss Ruth Shinen, Toronto, spent the weekend with their par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Shinen. Dr. and Mrs. H. 3. Hodgins, of Toronto, were guests this week at the home. of Mr. and Mrs. John Beattie. Mr. Joseph Morris, Detroit, spent the weekend with his brother, Mr. Frank Morris. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smith, Lon- don, with Mr. and Mrs. 11. E. Smith over the weekend. Dr. and Mrs. L. J. Matthews of Chatham spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Cleary. Mrs. Cleary having spent last week in De- troit and Chatham returned home with them. ST. COLUMBAN A successful year was indicated by reports presented by officers and conveners of .St, Columban subdivi- sion at the annual meeting, held re. cently in the garish hall with the president, Mrs. William Ryan, pre- siding. The first vice-president, Mrs. Jos. Kale, reported a membership of 115 members, 10 regular meetings and 3 executive meetings nvere held. Activities -during the year were, a penny sale, bingos, euchres, a ham supper, potluck supper at Lions Park and a home baking sale. Two quilts were quilted, all the material being donated. The second vice-president, Mrs. John McIver reported literature sent to the Sisters of the Atonement. Pins were given to the successful Entrance pupils and book were presented to the Separate Schools of the parish. The third vice-president, Mrs. Tom Morris reported 82 boxes sent to the sick and shutins during the year and at Christmas. The sick were visited by members. Linens were purchased for the rectory and a donation was giv- en to Rev J. McGowell to purchase silverware for the rectory. The par- ish hall was newly decorated. Mass was said on the feast of Our Lady of Good Council with a day of Recol- lection the following Sunday. Re- quiem masses were offered for three deceased members, and a Requiem High Mass was offered for our first subdivision president, Mrs. Wm. Dor- sey. Each month 2 masses were of- fered one, for the living members of the League and the other, for world peade. Two boxes of used clothing were sent to the needy; 62 subsorbptions were received for the Canadian Re- gister. Mrs. E. Malone reported 9 subscriptions with 36 readers to the Canadian League Magazine. Mrs, 3, Stapleton reported 44 members of the Purgatorial Society, also 62 members of the Propagation of the Faith. Christmas cards were sold at Christmas, Donations were sent to Father Flannery's Radio School of Christ; Sacred Heart Radio pro- gram; Our Lady's Missionaries; and Westminster Hospital. Rev. J. Mc - Cowell was remembered at Christ - mac and Easter. Rev. F. J. O'Drows- ld, our former pastor, was remem- bered at Christmas. The treasurer, Mrs. M. Malady, gave her report, showing a very successful year, total receipts were $1788.97 with disbursements of $1734.75. Mrs. 3. A. Murphy expressed ap- preciation to Mrs, Wm. Ryan and the retiring members of the execu- tive for their good work accomplish- ed during the past year. Mrs. Ryan thanked the members for their kind assistance liven to her during.. her term of office. The nominating committee com- posed of Mrs. John Moylan, Mrs. Frank Murray and Mrs. Tom Morris, presented the nominees and the fol- lowing executive was elected for 1958-1954. Spiritual Director, Rev. J. Me - Cowell; Pres., Mrs. John Moylan; Vice Pres., Mrs. Joseph Kale, Mrs. John Mclvor, and Mrs. Tom Morris, Recording Sec., Mrs. Win.'McMillan; Corresponding Sec., Mrs. Michael Doyle; Treas., Mrs. Michael Murray. Mrs. Moylan thanked the members and asked for the co-operation of all during the coming year. The meeting adjourned and a social hour was spent. McKLLLOP BUSY BEAVERS The fourth meeting of the McKil- lop Busy Beavers was held at the home of Agnes Hicknell on Apr. 23. The meeting opened by singing "The more we get together". The roll call was answered by one duty of a hostess towards a guest. The minutes of the last meeting were read by June Smith. The next meet- ing is to be held at the High School on April 27th. Our leaders then showed us how to make fancy sand- wiches. A discussion on planning a party then took place. Catherine Campbell adjourned the meeting and lunch was served. The fifth meeting of the :4IcKi1- lop Busy Beavers was held in the High School Auditorium on April 27th with the Seaforth and Kippen Garden Clubs, The meeting opened by singing "The Maple Leaf For- ever". The minutes were read by Betty Campbell, The roll call was answered by exchanging plants. Mrs. Haugh then gave a talk on record books, Mrs. Hillebrecht gave a talk on suitable and unsuitable flower containers which the girls had brought. Dorothy Enzensberger then. favoured us with a piano solo. Fol- lowing this Marilyn Mousseau of the Kippen Club played the piano, Barbara Trewartha then played a guitar solo, Ann Haugh introduced our guest speaker, Mr. Milner. Mr. Milner gave us a very helpful and interesting demonstration on flower arranging. Lunch was served and Mrs. Baugh had a quiz. Mrs, Pryce and Mrs, Keys won, The next meet- ing of the McK,illop Busy Beavers will be held at the home of Marion Hunt on May 4th, PRING NEEDS!
