SUPPORT YOUR BANTAMS WALTON COMMI'NITY BALL Friday, Feb. 27 ;Music by Wilbee's Orchestra THE SEAPORT, NEWS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1953 WALTON The February meeting of the Walton W.BLS. and W.A, Group was held on Wednesday evening Feb. 18th at the home of Mrs. Lawrence Marks with 27 ladies in attendance. The president, Mrs. Ronald Bennett opened the meeting with a short poem after which the hymn "Breathe an ane Breath bf God" was sung. A prayer by Mrs, Bennett was followed With the scrip- ture reading from Philippians 2; 1- 14 by Mrs. Robert Kirkby. Mrs. Nel- son Marks read a poem entitled "Martha's Song", Mrs, Fern Patter- son gave the secretary's report and read a thankyou note. The treasur- er's report was read by Mrs, Frank Kirkby. During the business period, March 25th was the date set for a bazaar which will be held in the schoolroom of the Church. A splend- id topic entitled "Blessed are the Peacemakers'' was given by Mrs, George Dundas. The closing , hymn "Dear Lord and Father of Mankind" was followed by the "Mizpah Bene- diction". Mrs. George McArthur conducted several contests and lunch was served, by the hostas assisted by Mrs. Percy Holman, Mrs. Fern Patterson, Mrs. Lloyd Porter and Mrs. Nelson Marks, The next meet- ing will be held at the home of Mrs. Noble McCallum on March 11th. Miss Barbara Boycl got first class honours in Grade 2 theory. KIPPEN EAST The Kippeu East W. I. met at the home. of Mrs. Alex McGregor on Feb. 15th with Mrs, Stewart Pepper as co -hostess. A good attendance of members and visitors were present, it being grandmother's day• Mrs. H. McGregor was the winner for the oldest member, Mrs, Ross Broadfoot for the youngest and Mrs. W. H. McLean for one with most grand- children. Thenkyou cards were read from Mrs. R. Upshall and Mrs. Chas. Eyre. The motto on Monte and Country was well given by Miss Margaret McKay. A delightful piano solo was given by Mrs. Ken McKay. A demonstration by Singer Sewing Machine Co. was enjoyed by all. Mrs. H. -1'IcGregor gave a humorous reading. Plans were made for the next euchre and dance to be held on March Cth. Mrs. Ross Chapman gave a paper on club work, Mrs. I. For- syth gave the current events. Lunch was served by the hostess and lunch committee. SPORT SHORTS •Seaforth Baldwins coasted to a 54 victory over Sarnia in their Jun- ior "B" fixture with the Junior Sailors in the Sarnia Arena on Tuesday night. Seaforth has glimpsed . at three play-off series over the past week. All Seaforth teams entered in this year's O.H.A. and W.O.H.A. have 3 •i reached the semi-finals. Dn Thursday night the Seaforth Bantams took their second straight game from Milverton 4-1. This gives •Seaforth the semi-final play-off round which was a two -out -of -three encounter. The young locals are now waiting to encounter the semi- finalist winners in the Northern divisions. The second game on Thursday night was a tough contest for Sea - forth to lose, The local Junior's had. need for a victory over the Lou Balls. With a two -goal lead and four minutes to go the locals yielded twice under a blast of ;speed shown by London. Even in overtime while hemming the London cage, Seaforth couldn't gain the equalizer or win- ner. Saturday night the :Seaforth Ju- veniles lost to Lucan 10-2. It elimin- ates Seaforth from W.O.A.A. Ju- venile finals. In Industrial League semi-finals, St. Columban Irish were put out of championship running, 00- Monday, Egtnondville was able to take their second straight win. Winthrop and Merchants are still slugging it out for a final play-off entry, Each has one win. a f BRODHAGEN Rostock School and our School played another game of hockey on the local rink last Tuesday evening, the score was 17-7 in favor of George Wick of Rostock and Garry Sholdice were referees. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Pushelberg and Ross and Mr, and Mrs. Lloyd Pushelberg and fancily visited the former's daughter, Mr. and 31i'e, Gordon Johnston at Londesboro' re- cently. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Eickmeir, Roger and Gary of Detroit spent the weekend at the home of his pat- ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Eickmeir.' Mr. and Mrs, Clifford Woodward, Donna and Gay of Toronto with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Querengesser. Mr. and Mrs, Ed McKenzie and Randy of Detroit with Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hoegy.
