Cardiff a Philosopher—
In his weekly letter to his consti-

Elston Cardiff, M.P., is something of
0 philosopher. He gave a .group of
fellow members his theory about
keeping .busy. He believes that hard
work never killed anybody but he
fears the thoughts of hard work
have knocked a few off.

The Fireside Farm Forum met on
Feb. 16 at the home of•Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Howatt with 24 present, to dis-
cuss the St. Lawrence Seaway pro-
ject. We think our region would
profit by the scheme in receiving
more electrical power, and that in-
clustries using coal and iron ore
should get them cheaper and be
able to produce their implements
and other manufactured g o o d s
cheaper. We would suffer through
paying taxes to pay for the scheme.
As a result of the navigation de-
velopment, harbors would 'be deep-
ened and more industries would be
developed, more employment given,
more workers brought to the neigh-
borhood so a greater market for our
produce. More electrical power
would be available, so it should •be
cheaper.
