OIL LEASES REGISTERED
MORE THAN 1;000 IN 195
An indication of the interes
shown in Huron county as a pros
pective source of oil was indicate
at county council' on Wednesda;
morning when the report of th
property committee showed an in
creased surplus of almost 600 pe
cent for 1952 over the previou
year.
The surplus of revenue over ex
penditures in 1952 was $13,463.79
while in 1951 it was only $2,055.61
"This amount was far above th
average due to a heavy run on ai
leases,' Murray Johnson, chairmal
of the property committee, said i
his report, referring to last year'
outstanding surplus.
County clerk -treasurer Harve;
Erskine said that more than 1,00
oil leases had been registered las
year, explaining why it was consid
ered necessary to purchase a recti
graph machine, which would take 1
picture of documents, develop, print
matically. The machine could re
produce 58 complete copies in one
hour as compared to 17 per day by a
copy girl.—Goderich Signal -Star.
