HOT SPELL DOES NOT APPROACH LAST YEAR

kept the official weather records of this district. Above. Mr.

curds show that .the temperature on July 10th, 1936, reached
101 degrees, an all time record. The next highest was July
6th, 1911, when the thermometer reached 99. The 1937 high
figures to date are July Sth, 90 degrees; July 9th, 91; July
10th, 88 degrees.

dog . He was always in a happy
mood. He was a 'friend to every one

greatly missed both in town and
country. We extend our sympathy
to the brothers and sisters that are
left to mourn.
Very heavy rain, electric and wind
storms have passed over .the village.
Mr. James Shannon's house east of
the village was struck by lightning.
The haying is getting pretty well
advanced, although the weather has
been very catchy.
Quite a number from here attend-
ed the Orange 'Celebration held in
Clinton on Monday.

St. A'riibrose .Church, Brussels, was
the scene of the wedding on Wednes-
day, July 14th, of Aileen F., daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ryan, of
Walton, to Melvin E., son of Mr. and
Mrs. 'Thomas Scott, of Fargo, North
Dakota. Rev, J. Paquette officiated,
Miss E. Ryan, •Thamesvili-e, presided
at •the .organ and at the signing of
the register sang 'Williamson's "Ave
Marie." The -bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore an extquisite gown
of pink taffeta, molded in princess
lines with high neck line, and wide -
brimmed hat of pink mohair. She
carried a nosegay of sunset: roses and
'boor'ard'ia. The bridesmaid, Flor-
ence E. Ryan, sister of •the bride.
was attractive in powder blue triple
sheer, with matching accessories.
She carried a shower of Johanna Hill
roses. The groom was supported by
/Gordon Ryan, brother of the bride.
Following the ceremony a reception
was held at Queen's hotel, Sea'torth.
Later Mr. and Mrs. Scott left on a
motor trip to ' Montreal and points
east. For travelling, the bride: Chose
a navy .and white suit. They will re-
side in 'Morehead,- Minnesota. -
Mr. Farvey Kistner has returned
to his home is Kitchener after spend-
ing a very enjoyable week end with
his grandmother, Mrs. 'Aaron Hulley
Sr., also his cousin, :Miss Madeline
Hulley.
Mr. 'Arthur •Muaut and his mother,
Mrs. Robert Munn, of Kitchener,
spent Sunday with":Mrs. Munn's mo-

Miss Luella Sommerville of St.
Marys is spending a week with rela-
tives in Walton.
Mr. Ken Murray of Walton is in
bed with quinsy. We hope for a
speedy recovery. -
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carter of Kent
Bridge were -visitors with Mr, and
Mfrs. Joe Carter on Sunday,
Mrs. Wm. Woods is spending a
few days with her sister, Mrs. Patter -
on at Blyth.
Mr. Cosby Ennis and Mr. 'B. Cholis
near Grantors were Sunday visitors at
the home of Mr. Fred Ennis on Sun-
day.
BLYTH
The Grandmother's meeting of the
4Vonten's ;Institute was held at the
home of Mrs. J. S. Chellew on Thurs-
day, July 8th with a good attendance.
President Mrs. R. Richmond presid-
ed. Meeting opened by singing the
Institute Ode, after which the Lord's
prayer was repeated in unison.A lat-

The July meeting of the Women's
Institute was held in the community
hall on Thursday, July '80i with 76
present. The president, Mrs. E. Ad-
ams presided. Meeting opened in the
usual form. During the business ses-
sion it 'was decided to hold the annual
picnic at •Goderich on July 28th and
if the Sunday School decide to have
a picnic will unite with then as form-
erly. Roll call .answered by a 'Cana-
d'ian of Note and Short Sketch of
Life." 'The program was given by the
children it being "Children's Day."
The 'following children assisted with
