A court .of revision bn the assest-
mesi roll of the village for the year
'0937, was held in the ciuncil chamb-
er, on- Wednesday !veining. The vill-
age reeve and connell acted as the
court. There were a number of ap-
peals, but in every case the valuation
placed an the properties by the asses-
sor was upheld by the court, '

Miss Margaret McLaren of London

Robt McLaren.
Splendid crowds attended the an-
niversary services of Carmel Presby-
terian Church on Sunday. The church
was beautifully decorated for the oc-
casion, The guest speaker of the day
waS. Rev. Hugh Cleghorn of Han-
over, and ,one of the most 'brilliant
ministers Of the ehurch. The soloist
was Mrs, J. IR. Ferguson of Glencoe.
On Monday evening a concert was
held in the church in connection with
the anniversary, with :the choir of Sit.
Andrew',s 'Church, Stratford; putting
on the :programme. This also was'
well attended and greatly enjoyed by
all present.
BOTANICAL NOTES FOR NINE
(Experimental !Farms Note)
People who are interested in the fo-
liage of trees and shrubs 'will know
that about the middle of thismonth
is the hest time to make collections of
fully -grown leaves with the colour
and texture still unspoilt by the at-
tacks of insects, fungous and the el-
ements.
These collections of leaves may he
quite readily preserved if placed be-
tween two pieces of ordinary news-
paper and this between some absorb-
ent material, such as blotting-PaPer;
thus 'forming the dryers. Place these
dryers between 'two pieces of board,
and upon the 1. 'p a weight, which
May be composed of bnilding-bricks
or large stones; this With the dryers,
forms a crude, but quite efficient
plant press. The leaves may he re-
moved from this press when they are
quite dry, or in about twenty-four
hours after they have ,been put in. If,
however, they should still he dente,
change the damp newspapers for dry
ones: in any case leave the material
in the press until it is quite dry. If
the press can he placed On a radiator
or in a "slow" oven, it will not he ne-
cessary to change the newspapers,
