The Young People's Anniversary
services of St. '-Andrew's United
Church were very successful. Excel-
lent 'weather for the occasion brought
large crowds to both services. In the
morning Rev. E. F. Chandler. took
for ;his subject, "Faith in God," and
• gave a very vital and inspiring Ines -
sage. The guest soloist, Miss Pearl
'Woods, of Exeter, sang two beautiful
solos, ' The Holy City" and "That
Land on High." The large choir of
Young People assisted by a 'quartate
of older members sang, the anthem,
"Bless The Lord." Misses 0. Belt,
13. Dayman, P. .Penfold and Messrs.
A, ,BeIl and j. B, McLean took a
quartette part. Rev, C. 'W. DeWitt
Casella of Wesley - Willis United
Church, Clinton, gave 0 very inspira-
tional message in the evening on
"Building A Life," to a large con-
gregation. Miss Woods again sang
two solos, "The Stranger of ,Galllee,"
and "My Work is Done," which were
much appreciated. The choir render-
ed the anthem "There is a Land of
Pure Delight," the Misses M. 'and' F.
Thomson taking the duet part.

uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dayman.

MRS. W. J..NOTT
There passed away at her home in
Egmondiville on Thursday, May Mb,
Lorena A. Williams, beloved Wife •of
Mr. \5J 3. Nott, aged 67 years. Mrs.
Nott had been in failing health for
seven years, and she had suffered
paralytic stroke on Tuesday about
6 p,m. from which she did not rally,
though she regained consciousneas,
The deceased was born -at Constance
in 11867, daughter of 'the late Mr. and
Mrs. John Williams. When she was
eighteen the family moved to .Saffit
Ste. Marc, Mich.,. where she was
married about thirty years ago to
Mr. Nott, of 'Sault Ste, Marc, Ont.,
1116 they lived .at MeLennau, Algoma.
In 19212 they moved to Egmondville,
after spending a year in the State of
ew York, Mrs N'ott was a woman
of line qualities and Was a member of
:he Egincindville United Church and
apo of the 'W.MVS. She is survived by
l!er husband, one sort Raymond at
':.:me, and one daughter Mrs, Keith
idtlebster of AlicKillop. Surviving also
..-ot three brothers, Herb. Williams.
has. Williams, Alonzo Williams, all
1 Sault Ste...Marie, and three sisters,
Mrs. John Crawford. Sault Ste. Marie,
Mrs, James Elford cff Port Perry, and
Mrs. S. S. Cole of Stratiard.
The funeral took place on Saturday
afternoon, services conducted by her
Pastor, Reverend Charles Malcolm,
M.A. The pallbearers were Norman
Carter, Bernard Nott, W, J. Finnigan,
Sam Townsend, A. J. Colby, Thomas
Dougherty, Bert Williams, James
Brown.
Among those from a distance pres-
ent at the 'funeral were Herbert Wil-
liams, Alonzo Williams and son Ray,

front Mr. David Gemmell's sugar
bush on the 2nd Com., 'ruckersmith,
near town, since the sugar season
this year, The tank is heavy and
would require two men to Carry it
through the hush, or possibly a wag-

regular monthly :meeting Monday ,ev-.
ening, May 12illst. The hymn, "The
'Whole Wide World for Jesus," was
sung, atter which the Lord's Prayer
was repeated in unison. 2Lrs, Baker
was presented with her Life 'Member-
ship certificate. The meeting was then
turned over to Circle 4 in charge of.
Miss al. Rands. T'he hymn, "Sweet
IT-Iour °If Prayer," was sung .an'd Mrs,.
Lane led in prayer. 'Mrs. 'Goodie read
the Scripture lesson and Mrs. Close
gave a reading, "The Heavenly Post
,Oftfice," which was inspiring Ind in-
teresting. Misses H. Lane and B.
Cuff rendered a duet "Sun of My
Soul," which was much enjoyed. A
splendid report was given by Mrs,
Hogarth on the eighth annual meet-
ing of the Huron Presbyterial, which
was held at Wesley - United
Church, Clinton, on Tuesday, May
list. The meeting closed by singing a
hymn and repeating the Mizpah bene-
diction,
RECOVERING NICELY.
Charlie Wood, stin of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Vand of town, who .suf-
tiered a. fractured 'leg and fractured
arm twelve weeks ago when run
over by a car, is recovering nicely and
'expects to be out soon. Charlie spent
ten Weeke in hospital and is still
under the doctor's .care.
PRESENTATION
The Woman's . Auxiliary of St.
Thornas'..Claurch met at the home of
Mrs. Win. Deem an Thursday even-
ing of ,last week to bid farewell and
extend good wishes to Mrs. Baxter.
Mr, and Mrs, Baxter have moved to
Welland. Canon Appleyard gave a
brief addresi expressing regret at
their departure. On behalf of the W.
A., Mrs. L. 0. VanEgmond presented
Baxter with a prayer and hymn
book combined. Mrs, Baxter replied
501 tabi,y, after which refreshments
were served. During the evening Miss
Josephine Edge contributed music

The Ladies' ,Guild of St. Thomas'
Chunch met on Tuesday of this week

BUSY AT SUMMER SCHOOL
SITE AT GODERICH
Buildings are being erected and
roadways made at the Goderich Sum-
mer School Site this Week. On Man -
day there were twenty,five men, at
Work and about the same number on
Tuesday and Wednesday. Shingling
the mein :building is in progress and
foundations are laid 'for the sleeping
,cabins. By the end of the week it is.
expeeted the buildings wili be nearly
completed, Rev: W. A. Bremner and

FIRE CAUSES DAMAGE
'Fire broke 001 in the house of Mr.
i(',eorge Belt Railway street, about
fotir o'clock Friday morning. and did
much damage to the hoose before be-
ing extingnithed. Mr. Bell was alone
in the lion, e, as nearly everythino
was packed up ready to move th<
next day, Mr. Bell having leased the
house belonging to the Duggan Es-
tate on E. William street, The fire
apparently started is the hallway
among some of the household effects
and had gained some headway before
Mr. 13e11 was awakened by the smoke.
He turned in an alarm and the blaze
was promptly •put out by the fire-
men. The room on the west side of
the hall was gutted and some demage
also upstairs.
SUCCESSFUL PLAY
The play, "Here Comes Paricia"
was presented in the parish hall on
Friday evening by the Anglican

'Robert A. Ashton, well-known resi-
dent of Gorrie, passed away ,on Fri-
day morning there, in his Goth year,
after an illness of three or foul
months. Deceased lived in Howie k
