Farrill, pastor of Ontario street Unit- ed ohurch of which he was a mem- ber. After an illness of about one year, Mr. Hunt passed away last 'Sat- urday, .He had seemed to be as well as usual and was able to be up and about the house during Christmas week but was taken suddenly with a heart attack on Saturday. Charles Davis [Hunt was born at ,Siherbourne, Dorsetshire. England, in .140511, and was in his 83rd year. His parents were the late Chas. Hunt and Rebecca Da- vis Hunt. At the age of twenty years he came with a brother to Canada. He secured employment with the G. T,IR, as sectionman and later became section foreman of the Brucefield sec- tion of the 'London, Huron and Bruce line, from which position he retired twenty-ifive years ago, going to Clin- ton to live. Sm ',1902 he married Edith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Simpson of iBrucefield, who survives' him, also two daughters, Winifred in Toronto and Edith et home. The bro- ther with whom he came to Canada, died in Toronto in May last. Charles Hunt was of a quiet homeeloving •dis- •position. In religion he was a Metho- dist and later United church. The smoke of the election - has cleared away and the electors by their verdict showed that an election was not wanted and that after the house cleaning in the County of IIuron which was brought about by J. M. Eckert and the co-operation of a ma- jority of the county 'council and it is to be hoped by the lesson taught that officials appointed in positions of trust of the county will discharge their duties honestly, and the present Reeve still wears the same hat and will snake no promises which he can't carry nut conscientiously with the co- operation of theCouncil board. Mr, Vincent Eckert, who spent his holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Eckert, has returned to 1St. Jerome's College, Kitchener, where he is a student. Mr, Cowan, a "'nicer - smith old boy, has been snaking his home with Ilse Aberhart family in M•oKillop. He is in remarkably good health, being able to fiddle, dance and clog like a young fellow. He step -danced on Christmas Day with a Youth of twenty. The wish of his many friends is that he will be able to observe many more birthdays and also to win many more fiddlers' contests. The many friends of Mrs. E. Mc- Intosh, John st., were sorry to learn of her misfortune in suffering a frac- tured hip in Toronto when she fell coming out of a drug store at the station, Going to visit her son during Christmas week there, she found no one at the station to meet her and went to telephone. Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Knox re- ceived a telegram on Saturday that the fornier's sister, Miss Lily, who was in General Hospital, Toronto, was much worse and early iSunday morning received two telephone mes- sages that she bad two away. The remains were brought to Clinton on ifonday accompanied by her niece, Miss Levine Knot of Toronto, and lit•, Oliver Lawson of Goderich, Monday afternoon, being brought to the home of her brother, Mr. Thom- as .Knox. The funeral was held on Wednesday at 2.30. We wish to ex- tend sincere sympathy to her mother, Mrs. Wm. Knox, and' to the family, also to her friend, ,Lr. Peter McDonald en- tertained company New Year's. CHISELHURST. We are sorry to report that Mr. Jas. Starke was taken to Seaforth Hospital to be operated on. At time of writing he was getting along as well as could be expected. A meeting was held at the home of 'Geo. Parker on Thursday, Dec. a8, to re -organize the beef ring which has not been running for over six years, and was largely attended, everybody taking a keen interest in the re -open- ing. When all reports; were given it was found that only a few more shares were neededto complete the ring. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Roy T. Mc- Donald; secretary, Len. Purdy; dir- ectors, Glenn MdLean, Earl Kinsman, 'Geo. Dalrymple, Carl Stoneman. Mr. Wm. Shepherd of Hensall] received a unanimous vote to be the butcher. Ring to start the latter part of May. Mrs. George Ohs'tnbers fell on Tuesday evening and broke her kg in two places. She is at present in the Seaforth hospital. A duet "Nearer Still Nearer," by the Misses Halcyon Chandler and Jean Ivison, accompanied by Mrs, E. Sproat an the organ was much en- joyed, The Busy Bees Mission Circle held their regular monthly meeting on Sat- urday last at the home of the Misses Mary and Florence Thomson. The 'Call to Worship by the President, Miss M. 'Thomson and Hymn 51011, "Standing at the Portal" was sung. The Scripture. Reading, Psalm 90, was read and Miss Isobel Alexander led in prayer. Hymn 445, All the Way My Sanious leads me," was sung alter which the devotional. "Made Again," was taken by Miss 1•I. Thom- son. Business pertaining to the com- pleting of the programmes for the New Year, securing of a riew Study Book, and other plans were discussed. The offering was taken and the Treas- urer's report was quite encouraging as the girls have quite successfully reached their allocation. As Jean Beal who was to have taken the topic was absent, the girls held a discussion in- stead. The meeting was brougt to a close by singing Hymn "O God Our (Help in Ages Past," and a short pray- er by the President. A contest and so- cial chat was followed by a dainty lunch served by the hostesses.. Special services for the Christmas season were held in St, Andrew's' United Church on Sunday last, The Christmas Message, "The Coming of the Sun of Righteousness," given by Rev. E. F. Chandler, was very inspir- ing. Special Christmas music was gi- ven by the choir in two very fine an thems, "The .Lord is Come," and "Vi- sions of Glory' J. B. McLean taking the solo part and the Misses Florence and Mary Thomson the duet parts. A trio, "0 Bethlehem," was very beautifully rendered by Mrs. J. B. McLean, Mrs. Earl Sproat and Mrs. W. E. Butt. The 'Busy Bees Mission Band will hold their monthly meeting at the hone of the Misses Mary and Flor- ence 'Thomson on Saturday at 2.30 p.m. Mr, Webster MkN'aughton of Queen's University, Kingston, who ,has been spending the vacation with his parents, Me. and Mrs. J, Naughton, has left to resume his studies there. In a Collision, involving four players, he suffered a broken leg butt is now al- most cotnpletely recovered and will probably be on the line-up .again next year. Following the accident the sen- ior team withdrew from competition, though within striking distance aE the Huron county senior championship.
