The choir of Carmel. Presbyterian
Church met .at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Jas, Hoggarth on Thursday
evening and presented Mrs, Clarke
'Kennedy with a handsome table lamp
in appreciation of her long and faith-
ful services in the choir.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kaiser of Detroit
visited last week with the former's
parents Mr. and Mrs. John Kaiser.

Miss Gladys Luker, president of
the Women's Institute, has received
letters from Laird Hudson, Royce
Welsh, Clare Zuefle, Alex Boa, Har-
old Redden, Austin Swhwalm, L.
Baynham, Stuart Dick, Cecil and
Ivan Kipfer, each expressing their
grateful thanks for boxes sent to
them in May by the Women's Insti-
tue and War Services Committee.
The time is at hand to again remem-
ber the boys. The ever-increasing list
now registers 36. Therefore more and
more money and other gifts are need-
ed to aid this worthy project. Rural
and local citizens are asked to leave
their contributions at any of the
Hensall stores not later than Mon-
day, August 23rd, or remit same dir-
ect to Miss Gladys Luker, Institute
members would greatly appreciate
your donation of half a cup or more

The local canvass has been com-
pleted for the Western Ontario Bible
Society and the total amount col-
lected was $100.75. The executive
wishes to thank the canvassers and
the contributors for their worthy
support.
Mrs, Chas. McDonell and Miss Dor-
othy McDonell returned home on
Monday from a pleasant trip to the
Thousand Islands,
Mr, Don Rigby of Blenheim spent
the week end at the home of Mr, and
Mrs. Stewart McQueen and was ac-':
companied home by Mrs. Rigby and
Donna who have been holidaying,

Mr's. D. MacLean had the misfort-
une to fall and fracture her wrist last
week, She was taken to Scott Mem-
orial Hospial, Seaforth, where she
was attended by Dr. D. G. Steer.
Mr. and Mr's. Russell Keyes of Mit-
chell visited on Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs, Harold Parker,
Bride Honored —
Mrs. Lawrence Baynham and Mrs.
Melvin Moir were hostesses on Fri-
day evening at the former's home to
the members of the Arnold Circle of
Carmel Presbyterian Church in honor
of a valued member, Mrs. Clarke
Kennedy, formerly Miss Irene Hog-
garth, who was married recently.
During the evening the bride was
presented with a handsome linen
tablecloth by the president Mrs, Mel-
vin Moir, the address being read by
Miss Sally Manson. Contests were
enjoyed and a social hour in which
dainty refreshments were served,
Miss Ellen Fremlin spent the week
end with her friend Miss Olive John-
ston near Varna.

family of London visited recently
with the latter's mother, Mrs. Gordon
Bolton.

Mrs, Jos. Thornton was visiting
her parents of Waterloo a week ago.
Her mother, Mrs. Kintner, was under
the doctor's. care but is able to be up
and around again.
Mrs. Martin Thornton is visiting
with Mrs. Thornton this week.
Norma Leeming, Joyce Diegel,
Donna Watson and Jean Mills have
returned to their homes after spend-
ing a week at camp at Goderich.

The anniversary services at St.
Andrew's United Church were held
last Sunday. Squadron Leader Floyd
of Clinton Radio School was the
preacher at the morning service and
the choir was ably assisted by Mrs.
Oakes of Clinton and the evening
services were taken by Rev. Mr.
Lane of Wesley Willis Church, Clin-
ton, The church was filled to capac-
ity at both services.

was held in the Town Hall for Pte.
Heard, son of Emerson Heard, who
was home on leave.
Miss M. Stirling, president of the
Red Cross, read the address and Mrs.
W. Westlake and Mrs. Prentice pre-
sented him with a beautiful pen and
pencil set and other knitted articles.
Mr. Heard thanked them in a fitting
manner, after which the crowd join-
ed in community singing led by Mrs.
Ferguson, and dancing. The music
was supplied by Messrs. Rowe and
:Weston, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs,
Parker, Mrs, Webster and Mrs. Jack
son, who have been summering in a
cottage here, were called home on
Friday night owing to the serious ill-
ness and, death of Mr. Arthur Jack-
son, Their many friends sympathize
with Mrs. Jackson and family in their
sad bereavement.
A bridge and euchre party is being
held on Mr's. Metcalf's lawn Wed aft-
ernoon, the proceeds for the Bayfield
Public Library.
Mrs. R. Poth and son and Mrs. E.
Kendall and children are guests of
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Jow-
ett, Mr, Jowett, who met with a pain-
ful accident, is still in. Clinton Hospi-
tal.
Just a line to' let you know that
the parcel arrived the other day. It
was certainly appreciated I can tell
you. Would you be so hind as to
thank everyone that donated some-
thing towards making up the parcel.
Not so long ago I received a gift from
Jas. Paterson—a money belt sent by
the municipality of Hensall. Hope he
