Institute Makes Jam for Overseas--
Members
verseas—Members of Hurondale Women's
Institute islet at the home of Mrs.
John M. Glenn on Monday and made
about 135 pounds of raspberry jam
to be shipped overseas for the armed
forces. The Institute members and
many kind friends assisted in the
picking of wild raspberries thus en-
abling the committee to produce
this amount of jam for export,
Thomson Reunion Held at Home
of Mr. and Mrs. John Pepper—
The annual Thomson reunion was
held on Thursday, July 15th at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. John Pepper,
east of Hensall, with about fortY
present. Sports and games directed
by Mrs. Good were enjoyed during
the afternoon and a delicious lunch-
eon served on the spacious lawn,
Guests were present from Auburn,
Dublin, Brucefield, Goderich and
Hensall. The following officers were
elected for next year: President,
Mrs, Wm. Alexander„ vice-president,
Mrs. Cornish; secretary, Lloyd
Thomson; sports committee, Miss
Jean Alexander, Warren Thomson,
Roy Pepper, Mrs. Norman Alexand-
er. Lunch committee, Miss Isabel
Alexander, Toronto, Mrs. Norman
Stanlake, Mrs. Herbert gritton, Mrs.
John Pepper. The oldest member
present was Mr. Samuel Thomson of
Brucefield and the youngest, Dorothy
Cornish, daughter of Mr. and Mrs,
Dick Cornish, Goderich, The picnic
will be held at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Good at Auburn next year.
The Late J. D. Stewart—
The death occurred on Sunday ev-
ening in Scott Memorial Hospital,
Seaforth, of Mr. J. D. Stewart in his
81st year, following a lengthy ill-
ness. The deceased was born in
Tuckersmith and was a prominent
farmer on the' second concession,
about three miles from the village.
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart moved to Hen-
sall a few years ago and celebrated
their fiftieth wedding anniversary
last February. Surviving are his
widow, the 'former Agnes Moir, two
sisters, Mrs, Walter McCully, Hen-
sall and Mr's. Strang, Regina, A
public funeral service waa held on
Wednesday at 2 pan, from the fam-
ily residence conducted by Rev. R.
A. Brook of Hensall United Church
of which the deceased was a mem-
ber. Interment in • Hensall Union
Cemetery,
The annual congregational picnic
of the Chiselhurst United Church
will be held at the Lions park at
Seaforth on Thursday afternoon.
Funeral services were held Last
Saturday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock
in First Baptist' Church, Wallace
burg, for Mrs, Ernest McDougall,
who died suddenly Wednesday after-
noon at her residence, 912 Wallace
street. Interment was in Riverview
cemetery. In her 67th year,; Mrs.
McDougall was a native of Hensall,
being a daughter (Margaret) of the
late Mr. and Mrs. William Luker.
Her husband pre -deceased her in
1927. She was a member of First
Baptist Church and intensely inter-
ested in the Ladies' Association. Sur-
viving are two sons, Guy, of Chat-
ham, Chester, of Windsor, four dau-
ghters, Mrs. Lola Platt at home, Mrs.
J. Heather, of Chatham, Mrs, A. H.
Trueman of Lindsay and Mrs.o Clive
Chamberlain of Chicago;
grandsons. Deceased had inade fre-
quent visits at the home of her sis-
ter-in-law, Mrs. W. Luker, of the
village. All members of the family
predeceased her with the exception
of a sister, Mrs. Sarah Nicholson of
Dayton, Ontario,

compared with the cities.
7. JUST AND HONEST treatment for labor,
the Institution of advanced labor laws set up
by representatives of labor, employees and
the general public.
8. A BETTER PRICE for the products of the
farm to insure prosperity not only for the
farmers but also for the small towns serving
the•farming community.
For A Better Ontario
STOCK YARDS to be taken over by the
Government and operated for the benefit of the
farmer and the consumer.
HYDRO to be reorganized so the farmer's
wife can have at low cost all city conveniences
of power and lights, and unification of Hydro
throughout the Province so that our towns and
villages can attract Industry units, thus building
up local markets for our farmers.,
THE GOVERNMENT to assume 50% at
least of the school taxes now charged against
your farm or home.
PLAN AT ONCE for a social security pro-
gram that will Insure security for all the people,
in the post war period.
ASSIST THE WIDOW AND AGED by means
of increases In allowances and pensions with no
strings attached,
I BELIEVE THAT THE FARMER should be properly organized so that they can place their
problems collectively before the government. 1 also believe that the Canadian Federation of Agriculture
is doing and will continue to do a great deal for the farmer, and it has my every support and sympathy.
