Mrs. Wm, M. Bell Dies --
A well known resident of this dis-
tr•iet passed away at her .home on
Thursday last, in the person of Mrs.
Wm. M. Bell, in her 71st year, fol.
lowing a lengthy illness. The de-
eeased was born in Usborne Town-
ship and was formerly Margaret
Stewart, (laughter of the late Mr, and
Mrs, Robert Stewart, Sbe has resid-
ed in this district tor the past thirty
Years and Wile active in community
and church affairs, being a valued
member of Carmel Presbyterian
Church; Surviving is her husband,
ane soli Stewart, two sisters, Mrs,
Thos. Elder and Mrs, W, J. Elder,
both of Seaforth, two brothers, Dun-
can of Heusan, <'tnd John Stewart, of
Usborne Townshili. The private fune-
ral service which was to have been
held Saturday from the home, was
postponed owing to weather condi-
tions until Tuesday at 2 p.m. Inter-

Dies Suddenly --
Alpine McEwen passed suddenly
away in a London hospital Thursday
evening in his 51st year, The deceas-
ed was a veteran, of the First World
War and although: he returned safely
from overseas the years have seen a
rapid decline in health and strength
and he was finally taken to London
for treatment a few weeks ago. He
was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Duncan MCEwen and received his
education at S. S. No. 10, Hay He
operated a garage here for a number
of years and prior to his illness was
an employe of Thonnsou's Mill. Sur-
viving is his widow, formerly Miss
Nellie Priest, three sons and one
daughter, Norris with the RCAF,
Boundary Bay, B.C., Alpine of Galt,
Ewan and Mina at home, one sister,
Mrs. Harry Watcher, Grand Prairie,
Alta., five brothers, Dr. John Me -
Ewan, Carleton Place, William of Ed-
monton, Ewan and Earl of Toronto,
and Almond of Hensall, also survive.
A military funeral was held from
Carmel Presbyterian Church on Mon-
day afternoon attended by comrades
of the deceased, of the Exeter -Hen -
sail Branch of the Canadian Legion,
of which the deceased was a mem-
ber. "The Lord's My Shepherd,' and
"Abide With Me," were the hymns
sung. Rev. Wm. Weir delivered a
message of inspiration taking as his
text, "For David, after he had serv-
ed his own generation by the will of
God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto
his fathers." The floral tributes were
large and very beautiful, consisting
of wreaths and sprays, from the fam-
ily, Mrs. Harry Watcher, Grand
Prairie, Mr, and Mrs. Ewan McEwen
and Mr. Earl McEwan, Toronto, Mr.
and Mrs. Almond McEwen, Hensall,
Misses Lillian and Edith McEwan,
London, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Mc -
Ewan, ilensall, Mr. Robt. Morrison,
Liras, MeDonell led, in prayer and!
the hymn, "There Is Work To Dc
For Jesus," was sung. A special coil-
eetien was taken for the Chinese Re-
lief Fund. Arrangements were made

will be held in St, Paul's Anglican
Church on Friday at 8 p.m.
