The autumn executive meeting of
South Huron District Women's Insti-
tute was held at the home of the
president, Mrs. Glenn MacLean, with
a good representation from the var-
ious branches. It was decided to hold
the district annual next May in Hen-
sall as in 1942 with an afternoon
session only. Arrangements were
made for speakers and music. The
highlight of the evening was the

dent by Mrs. James Kirkland and the
assurance that the branches of South
Huron are doing their part for vic-
tory.
W.M.S. Thank Offering -
The Overseas Box Concert spon-
sored by the Kippen East Women's
Institute held in Kippen Church on
Thursday evening was well attended.
With door receipts and many dona-
tions from home in the Community
some $55 was cleared. The concert
was composed of numbers from the
Paul Bros., Kirkton, excellent music-
al numbers from Cpl. Jack Cormick
and LAC French, Burt and Yuffy
from Clinton radio school. Mrs. Paul
Doig gave two readings and Mrs.
Kling sang two solos while Mrs. Butt
and Miss J. Ivison favored with a
duet, Dr. Campbell represented the
Victory loan. The branch sends boxes
every second month to ten soldiers
in England .(Pte. John Chipchase one
of our boys is a prisoner) and every
other month cigarettes, The work is
most praiseworthy for these men are
our front line of defense, Any dona-
tions at any time are gladly received.
Mrs. Wm. 73e1l le convener of this

speaker was Miss Adams of Toronto
who spent some years in Formosa.
A lovely trio by Mrs. Andrew Doug-

Captain," after which a hymn, and
prayer by Mrs. Hudson brought the
meeting to a close.
A community patriotic service was
held in the town hall on Sunday ev-
ening, Oct. 25th at 8.30. There was
a good crowd in attendance and the
choir of the three churches were on
the platform, also members of the
local war finance board and others,
Rev. Wm. Weir of the Presbyterian
Church was in charge of the service
which began with 0 Canada, after
which Rev. A. M. Grant of Kippen
United Church led in prayer. The
choir sang Onward Christian Soldiers
followed by the Scripture reading,
33rd Psalm, by Mr. Weir. The pray-
er for our armed forces was taken
by Rev. W. J. Patton of McKillop,
who was supplying for Rev. R. A.
Brook. Rev. Wm. Weir then intro-�
duced Mr, A. J. McMurray, chairman
of the war finance board of the '
county of Huron, who gave a talk in
connection with the Third Victory
Loan. The guest speaker for the
evening was Squadron Leader the
Rev. F. Crankshaw of England and
Chaplain of No. 9, SFTC, Centralia, '
who gave a splendid address. Before!

The October meeting of the W. M,
S. was held at Mrs. Will Elford's on
Wednesday last week with eleven
members present. The Scripture les-
son was read by Mrs, Ed Johns and
Mrs. Dickey presented the chapter
from study book, "Christian Homes."
Mrs. Elford also read two pieces on
hospitality. The ladies repeated the
